Alexander Petrov

But there was nothing wrong with his performance!
I know, you are definitely right about that. His performance was good. And he didn't make any major errors likes falls to deserve the lowest PCS.
But it's very late in the season to change a program and his next GP is less than 2 weeks away.
Given what little time he has, the only program that he could possibly change back to is one of his old SPs and that may not be such a good option either.

It's just very concerning he's not considered as good as Samohin or Firus. I would even add Miner and Hochstein. At his next competition maybe he could add some moves or go faster?

Meh. The previous panels saw things differently.

As for the program, of course they will work on it.

Sasha did 25mins today at his practice session and then left early without doing his run-through.

Nothing further to add. Seemed like a normal practice. As for why they skipped the run-through when he only needed to hang around for another 8mins? I don't know.

His mood/body language seems okay. Better body language than yesterday.

So the problem was the SP! Petrov got higher pcs than two so far.
Oh please, the two guys he got higher PCS than fell. Sasha was absolutely SPOTLESS. Tech panel barely deducted anything from him. Yet he barely got higher PCS than those two.

Memo to Mishin that he will never get to read #2:
Mishin, please stop bringing your skaters to Skate Canada only to have their PCS butchered like this.
And next thing, do consider different choreographers for Sasha's programs next season.

Twitter reaction to his FS:
On balance it is okay. You might have thought it would be much better than the reaction to his SP, but it's not. A couple people didn't like the choreo and music. With the SP, it was mainly about the shirt and that music being "Mao's music".

In both cases though, small sample size. But nonethless, it's interesting.

In the event that Liza does not make it into GPF, Mishin might enter her into some competition to get practice before Nationals. There is one CS event left that fits that time frame. And that is Golden Spin of Zagreb. If Liza goes to that, quite possibly Sasha might go too since he's usually the +1. Entry deadline is 9 Nov. So we should know a few days after that.

Isn't Caro going to that - or am I misrembering? (If Mishin is coaching her, and intends to go, he may well take Liza & Sasha along too; who knows?)

Source please. Source for where she said she's participating in this. Golden Spin is in Dec. Caro is training with Mishin's school in SPB but he is not yet officially her coach. And no, she is not going to beat Liza at Golden Spin, that is IF she is going. If you want to talk further about Caro, please PM, either that or in the Mishin thread, thanks.

He was clean as usual so I really have nothing else to say than he needs a quad. In his programs, not just in practice. He's been doing surprisingly good without it last season and before that but not anymore. I'm sorry but it can't be so difficult for him to just try it in competition.

So far he's tried it once in competition (Nebelhorn FS) but popped it and was clean for the rest of the program.
Outside of competition, he's even tried it in the SP if you remember. At least twice this year in the SP that we know of, if not more. Tartu camp gala and Knowledge Celebrations gala. Both times was UR and maybe two-footed (at least the first one was, not sure about the second one) but he didn't fall.
I don't know why he wasn't allowed to do it at the Panin Memorial. Couldn't have been a better opportunity than that.
If he does another senior B this year, I really hope he's allowed to try it, especially since World Standing points are basically kind of worthless now.

Edit:
Actually, he should just be allowed to try it at Cup of China as well. I mean what's the difference between finishing 7th or let's say 8th or 9th if he loses points from a popped quad. None of those positions are good. But if he nails it or manages to stay on his feet, there's more to gain than playing safe with just triples. I don't think he's injured at this point so it's just silly not to try it. So maybe his coaches thought he could finish in the top 5 if he was clean without a quad at SC (which is fair enough reasoning if this was still 2015) but in the end PCS still did him in. Might as well try the quad at CoC. I really don't understand the logic of this. Last season I still supported it because he had injuries and some puberty issues but those seem to be behind him now.

Edit2:
And quite frankly, he might not even get to go to Euros if he doesn't have a quad in his layout, regardless of where he ends up at Nationals.

Oh well. Anyway, it's snowing in SPB, early winter. So far no news yet of the winter camp but it should be in Jan after Nationals.
