Alexander Petrov

So far he's tried it once in competition (Nebelhorn FS) but popped it and was clean for the rest of the program.
Outside of competition, he's even tried it in the SP if you remember. At least twice this year in the SP that we know of, if not more. Tartu camp gala and Knowledge Celebrations gala. Both times was UR and maybe two-footed (at least the first one was, not sure about the second one) but he didn't fall.

Edit2:
And quite frankly, he might not even get to go to Euros if he doesn't have a quad in his layout, regardless of where he ends up at Nationals.

My question is, if he was allowed/told to try it once in competition, why not anymore? And yes he did try it twice in gala performances, and no he didn't fall. Doing something at a gala is, based on my experience, pretty comparable mentally to doing it competition.

He also most probably will need the quad at nationals to even place high enough to go to euros. And as an added goal, so to say, worlds. We know it and Sasha knows it, so nothing new here.

Why not anymore? Good question. Something I keep wondering about too. I don't know why Mishin took it out of his program after just ONE try. At Finlandia he was supposed to try it too but after the FS practice the opening jump was changed to 3T and then now the entire layout has been changed and there's no 4T anymore at all.

Yes, Sasha knows it (Tracy Wilson on TSN broadcast even said Sasha says it all the time in English, "I need a quad".), and from his interviews, Sasha wants to try it too. Why is he being held back, I don't know. I don't think he's injured so this makes no sense.

Edit:
It should be said that the quad was taken out of BOTH programs. In pre-season he had quad in both programs. Then just before Nebelhorn, it was reduced to just the FS. Now it's entirely gone.

Source please. Source for where she said she's participating in this. Golden Spin is in Dec. Caro is training with Mishin's school in SPB but he is not yet officially her coach. And no, she is not going to beat Liza at Golden Spin, that is IF she is going. If you want to talk further about Caro, please PM, either that or in the Mishin thread, thanks.

It was not my intention to digress into discussing Caro per se - merely as much as she might be relevant to Sasha.

Sasha's LP (no commentary):

Loved it.:) So did the audience. And Mishin seemed to approve as well - I thought his hug when Sasha came off the ice looked congratulatory. (I don't generally watch no commentary videos, but really enjoyed it this time as the audience reaction was so clear & audible in it.)

Everyone was expecting higher than just 3rd place after the first group.

But since this has happened, I will have to adjust my estimate of his final placement at CoC.

Blurry video but basically it's (from left to right), Samohin, Sasha, Yuzuru and Mura sitting in the front row of the media room after the FS draw. Sasha looks at something on his mobile phone and Yuzuru leans over to see, very interested. Mura and Samohin also lean over to look at it. They all seem amused.

Thank you! I didn't even recognise anyone other than Sasha, it was so hard for me to see. Fun moment.:)

Some comments by a poster on a Russian forum:
It is necessary to insert the quad into his program. Of course at first the program might fall apart if the quad is unsuccessful but everyone has to go through this. But if the quad is not inserted into the program, he's just going to fall lower and lower in the standings even if he is clean.

Skate Canada is a warning sign and his coaches should heed this.

Couldn't agree more.

By the way, how much time is there before his next competition?

About two weeks. But Mishin will be away with Dmitriev in Moscow and then France for several days during that period. Of course Sasha still has Mishina and other tech guys he works with but the decision about whether the quad goes back into the layout lies with Mishin.

I haven't seen much of Petrov before, but I just wanted to say that his LP performance at SC was one that stood out to me at the men's LP competition, even without the quad, and I thought he would receive somewhat higher marks. I was impressed by his finesse, phrasing, and musicality in the jazz step sequence and throughout the routine, especially considering that he's a Russian teenager skating to Sinatra!:) I know that Sinatra is used alot, but I don't think many programs focus on the jazz elements (as opposed to the song's main melody) the way his did, which was a nice surprise. With his natural musicality, he could skate to many different kinds of music. Also, I noticed that he has the wonderful posture and jump technique that is uniquely Russian. I think that once he has a consistent quad in his programs, and with a bit more maturity, his scores will go way up.

Thank you, that's what I think about his skating too :)

I didn't see any interview with or about Sasha concerning SCI. I don't think I missed anything. If so, then I guess we're back to silence again.

Well I double checked and there's really nothing in the media. Liza and Mishin gave some interviews in the aftermath of SCI but he was not mentioned in those.

I also watched most of CoR. Many thoughts came to mind. And interestingly I kept hearing music Sasha had used before in the past. Of course I hope that one day, sooner rather than later, he will get the chance to skate at CoR, he's done some of his best skating in Moscow.

The problem with Sasha's ranking points hasn't been corrected. Since Nebelhorn Trophy they've only added 38 pts to his total so there's some issue with the algorithm. I don't know why other skaters aren't affected. But he should be much higher up than just 14. Does anyone know how to get in touch with ISU about this?

I remember that a GS member mentioned having complained to ISU about some inaccuracy regarding some other skater - I can't recall who or what it was about. Has ISU a facebook page? I seem to recall them saying something about writing to the ISU on there. (I believe they said part of what they had complained about had been corrected, but part not.) I wish I remembered more clearly, sorry.
