Well, that leaves one spot up for grabs? I don't suppose Adian will want to go again, so that puts Sasha in for a good shot. When is Junior Nationals - and is there anything else on at the same time that you'd rather he were doing?

(Obviously I'd rather he'd be sent to Euros and Senior Worlds', but if not... )

Mishin's got some winter camp going on until the 10th in Estonia.

Well, so if he isn't sent to Euros, he might as well do Junior Nationals? If he gets sent to Junior Worlds, he'll have a chance for a new SB. And some ranking points?

Probably so.
And if he isn't sent to the Youth Olympics either (to be frank I think the Fed has someone else in mind for this), he should be doing Bavarian Open or an equivalent senior B (although I don't see anything else on the calendar atm).
I mean for real, I will be angry if he's healthy and they don't send him to a senior B to get those points. If Mishina and Mishin are too busy to travel with him, then send someone else to go with him.

I'd agree with that. If he has the second half of the season with no competitions at all - that would just be weird.

I'm pretty sure that if (or when, to be honest)he doesn't get to go to Europeans, he will do junior nationals. And if he goes to europeans, I think he has a decent shot at making it to junior worlds without junior nats. (Like Pitkeev last season)

Yes. Because of the scheduling it will be nearly impossible to do both.
 
Wow, those are some big cups - did they get to keep those? Might be worth the trip in themselves.;) Would look snazzy on the mantelshelf.;)

ETA - "What? That? Oh, it's just a cup I got at this little competition I did..." Sounding unassumingly modest - whilst being literally true.:)

Okay so I just watched Sasha's performances from Finlandia trophy from last season and from skate Canada this season (I thought that those could be as similar as we can get audience wise so the performances in themselves are pretty much comparable) And of course the fact is that he needs more speed and he is still juniorish but I must say that he really has gotten a lot more speed over the year. And this season he has that "just moved up from juniors"- feel, but that's still a lot better than the "in juniors"- feel that he had last season.
Just thought that would be worth a mention here, that's all. :)
 
^Well, according to Tracy Wilson, Sasha needs just two more things, more speed and a quad. And I agree. But I would add one more to that - more luck.
 
One thing I forgot to mention about Sasha with regard to his speed. He's not that fast but he uses very few crossovers and this season fewer than last. Together with his excellent knee bend, it's a sign of good, solid basics. As he gets older his speed will improve.
 
I took a look at the ISU calendar again. There are two competitions that take place after Junior Worlds which he could possibly do to collect some ranking points:
Gardena Spring Trophy on 1st April or Triglav Trophy on 6th April.

Chances are slim though. Except for JGPs, he's never been sent to an international competition unless someone else in the school was also going. He did Triglav Trophy (juniors) in 2013 but that's because Gachinski was taking part in the seniors comp.
 
I feel like if at that point of the season they know he needs more ranking points, he will be sent there. And you know maybe someone younger in the school will come also… but Its a bit early to think about those competitions to be honest.

That is true. But given that there won't be any real news to report between now till Christmas, I try to think of ways to get this thread moving. :slink:
 
Something I realized today. Well, better late than never...
The prize money for finishing top 3 in the Challenger Series is not insignificant. It's roughly $3000 for second place, which is therefore what Sasha netted last season since he finished second in the CS standings.

And there is also a small exhibition fee of $200 which he netted for participating in the Skate Canada gala.
 
Yes, that is a lot of money (not like huge amounts but a lot) but I feel like in Sasha's case he probably got most of it to himself (bit like as he would from a summer job or something) so it wasn't significant for the whole family.

Of course I might be wrong but I've had the impression that he doesn't come from a poor family at all.

Middle-class family. But the prize money probably goes back into his skating. He's still only getting Junior level funding from the Fed. They didn't put him on the senior national team (neither first team nor reserve team).

Edit:
They don't live extravagantly at all. From pictures they look like a very modest family.

Oh I didn't remember that he still isn't on the senior team… well then it's a different situation
