Well, it would make sense to me to have him make his first quad attempt at a small domestic competition - little pressure, and also little attention paid to it. I mean, clearly the world at large won't know much about this - hopefully we'll find out a little more, though.:) And if, again, this was a quad attempt, I hope they'll find another opportunity for him to try it. Debuting it at Russian Nationals wouldn't have been the best idea anyway, methinks.

There is a Russian Cup event this week in Moscow on the 2nd. But I'm not sure if they will enter him in it or not.

Do you think they should? (genuine, not rhetorical question) It's awfully soon, and he'd have no time to rest in between. Are there other options coming up between now and Nationals?

Note: Question: Are we sure, by the way, that the 3 deductions are for 3 falls? If not, couldn't one of them be a time violation? He was running late in his LP at SC, so, if he had two falls, it wouldn't be inconceivable that he'd be late enough to earn himself a time deduction? Just a thought - I'm not saying that I believe this must be so; just suggesting a possibility.

No it's not confirmed but the TES is 63 so more likely it was due to falls. If not 3 falls then it could be 2 falls and 1 popped jump which is not great either.

Russian Cup stage 5 entries will be out on Wed. Since he's not going to Golden Spin, that's the last chance to get competition experience before Nationals (unless they intend to send him to some obscure competition again).

Also, so far no videos or protocols from the Belgorod event.

Well, we'll see then. I do hope he gets to compete again before Nationals, but I'm honestly not that worried about him. He did very well at the GP, and got some experience, confidence and good performances under his belt. And while there may be a setback, I know it will be only a temporary one, and he's young and has got time.

The important task is to work towards getting 2 GP assignments for next season. Because these things snowball, not getting 2 assignments will have consequences beyond that. To increase his chances of getting two assignments, he has to do well at Nationals and/or make sure his world ranking stays within the top 24 by season's end.

Of course. And I wish him to be at the GP next season, obviously - after all, I was very keen for him to move up to seniors this year, as you may recall.;) Still, even in a worst case scenario - when he gets stable, and adds the quad, and remains stable with the quad - then he will be very competitve. I don't see anything holding him back then. And I'd rather not that his development is rushed, and he ends up being incosistent, and hit and miss like so many others. He's 16, and that gives him time. As I said, any setback will only be temporary.

I'm not concerned about the quad. We don't even know if he's attempted it yet.
What I'm concerned about is him skating that LP clean/cleanish since he won't have another competition before Nats to iron out any issues he has with that program.

I'm not talking about the state of his quad now - or if he is doing it now. What I'm saying is that, when, in the future, he adds it, and he becomes consistent with it - which I am sure, with the technique and fine mind set he has, and that air of... stability, he will be - then there will be no stopping him. And so I'm not worried. I'm talking long term, beyond this season. In fact, I expect he will start making "his move" next season, GP or no GP, and if he has great results at Nationals next year... well. That's all I'm saying. Of course, short term, all you say is perfectly correct. I'm just not concerned with that at the moment.

That's nice.
Were there anybody else that did it tough? Anyway, that was a really nice quality jump whatsoever.
Javi has it in his LP. I'm sure some others too but just not the Russians. Sasha's the only senior Russian man in the GP with a 3F ie. all the triples. :)

No mention of Sasha? Oh, well, it's par for the course. At least there isn't overhype.;)

By the way, I was thinking/wondering - what are the chances he might be sent to Junior Worlds? How many spots do Russia have, and who are the candidates for them? Just curious...

Russia has 3 spots for JWs. He may be sent but then he would have to do Junior Nats (which is kind of meaningless to me) first and the Fed will decide based on that outcome. Aliev and Samarin will definitely be sent to JWs IMO. As you can see they are both mentioned in the Fed's Press Release.
