Alexander Petrov

Sasha appears for a very short while in a news video about Liza. 1m49s onwards. The report was published on the evening of the 20th, so footage should be either from the 19th or 20th.
He appeared in another news video about ice resurfacing at Yubileyny the day before yesterday but it's too small so I'm not posting that one.

Less than two training days to go. He'll probably be flying off on Sunday morning, practices at Bratislava start on Monday morning.

Edit:
I hope Sasha's dad will be traveling with him too.

I've screened through several interviews with Fed officials and coaches and the impression I'm getting is that Junior Nationals will be the decider for the YOG spot. Since Sasha could not be at Junior Nats, unless his coaches back him on this one, it feels like a no-go.

There's an article out in which the journalist says the mens YOG spot has already been decided. And no, it's not gone to Sasha.
So unless Simonenko is woefully wrong, that's that. It is unfortunate that a bronze at senior nationals is not good enough for the Youth Olympics.

Mishin interview:

"At the championship of Europe our tactics will be such: to show all the best that we have accumulated. Quad we teach, but not like the others do who will execute, 'the butterfly' [popped jump]. We teach such quads which will conform to my creative and scientific concepts. That the person has come on a jump and has made it. I do not want Petrov to go to the championship of Europe and do some lame quad."

"This is wrong, because I as a coach no longer rush. I stopped the rush once appeared I have Olympic champion Urmanov."

In his opinion, Petrov's third place in the championship of Russia for the skater "is already a good result, although this athlete is underrated."

According to the source, in Bratislava, Petrov will compete "with himself." "I remember telling Urmanov: Lesha, you do your own, and then we'll see. And when he did his, it turned out quite good or very good. So in this case: let Petrov make his own. Because to win (the world champion Javier) Fernandez it is not necessary. And you cannot "- summed Mishin.

Hmm... okay.
Food for thought.

Mishin does have a point thats for sure but if/when Sasha doesn't do the quad he gets bashed. But if he tries the quad and fails, he will probably get bashed also…

Yes, you are right.
It's very difficult for Sasha. He does not deserve to be treated like this (well, no 16 yr old does but especially not a skater of this caliber). This is really the ugly side of FS.

Well, it's official, they've selected the YOG team and Sasha is not on it. Of course no explanation for why he was not selected even though he fits the age criteria and was on the Ministry's candidates list.

And just a reminder, he's still officially on the Junior National team, not the senior team so that can't be the reason. As for skipping Junior Nats and having done senior GPs, they had no problems sending skaters like that to the last YOG. Other countries also have no problems sending skaters on the GP circuit to YOG.

Maybe his coaches had no intention of sending him to YOG or Junior Worlds in the first place. Tatiana Mishina mentioned in an interview that Gumennik's aim was to go to Junior Worlds but that was not possible after he finished 6th.
But then what's their plan for Sasha after Euros? Nothing?

I guess the fed is trying to prove a point which is that Sasha (nor anyone else for that matter) can't go for too long without quads.
But still that's not an acceptable reason for not letting Sasha have the spot to jwc.

That's possible but Savosin (the third skater going to JWs) has no quad and only recently mastered a 3A.
Oh well. I hope maybe that he will be allowed to do some senior B later on? To get his SB and ranking higher in order to have a better chance for 2 GPs next season.
