Alina Zagitova

Is Alina Zagitova the only Ladies Olympic Gold Medalist in history who was also the reigning Junior World Champion at the time she won?

oh i don't know; but was she did in those 2 season is impressive; and she got only 1 season in JGP

Eh, I honestly think she was more worried about beating Evgenia and Eteri not being that happy about it than not having her anthem playing. She looked bit off when she found out she is a winner and I doubt "oh nooez, no Russian anthem will be playing" was on her mind as a first thing.

Add to it the recent interview about not having friends and loving pets for being loyal.... I think there is much more going on with her that having to skate at Olympics under neutral flag.

As much as I don't really like her free skate, I wish she would win the world and be able to move on. Either to other pursuits, or to more satisfying coaching situation. With friendlier coach and closer to her parents.

There's a very noticeable change in attitude when the Anthem starts playing. She was just smiling and looking happy and proud before that when she was receiving her medal and even afterwards when she was posing with Medvedeva and Osmond. It's kinda hard to miss when you watch the whole video.

I'm looking forward to new programs and new costumes. DQ has served her well, but it's time to move on. I'm also looking forward to seeing how her artistry can improve as she matures.

I know there is no guarantee of anything and I don't take anything for granted. But I still think it is reasonable to hope for more competitive seasons from her.

Judging by older videos of her, she seemed much more loose when she was younger. So either something happened in life that made her more reserved or some other reason.

Exactly. What's next? "Never send her Birthday cards"?

To me, people show their true colors not only with what they do but also with what they don't do. A true friend stands up for you when things get tough. When TAT lashed out at Alina's dad on national television and said that "we like Zhenya more", shouldn't someone have come out and said "What TAT did was uncalled for. Alina won and we're happy for her", or something similar? In such a situation, it's the right thing to do, even if you don't mean the words. But no one did, not Eteri, not Zhenya, nobody else. At the press conference we discussed yesterday, Eteri did everything but congratulating Alina. She spent most of her time talking about Zhenya and only indirectly mentioned Alina when she talked about "these girls".

TAT did that to Alina's dad? What an impolite fool to act like that. Alina's dad should have replied that Alina should have won by a bigger margin than she did! People would have melted down. Lol!

Does anyone in Russia stand up for Alina Zagitova and say she deserve that gold medal? You can be damn sure the establishment Russian figure skating historians won't and Alina's own coach won't. What a shame she has to puf up with this. This should be the best time of her life with support from all over Russia. I think it's time for Zagitova to get more aggressive and more confident and speak that way about what she's done this year and how much more she wants to do in figure skating. no one else will do it for her she has to do it herself. I can't wait to see how great Alina will be in one or two years. She has every chance to go down as an all-time great! She could be a female Plushenko.

Amazing post. Especially your second and third paragraphs. but let's be honest Alina Zagitova has all the momentum in the world right now and if she stays healthy the sky's the limit.

Did TAT actually say that? I thought she changed her tone at that show with Alina's dad. And in the name of whom is she speaking (we)?
Figure skating is a judged sport and the majority of judges decided that she was better than Zhenya ( not the Russian judge though who placed Alina in both short and free behind Zhenya)
Anyway, if the results are these, the Russian figure skating establishment - TAT, Averbukh, Eteri should accept it.
I don't consider that Alina changing coach will be a good move and I hope this will never happen. She definitely can stay relevant (if healthy and motivated) for some more seasons, as at the moment only Trusova has better BV than her.

She lives only with grandma in Moscow. Rest of the family lives in Izhevsk. In that video you are referring to the rest of the family is only visiting her.

ah.. make sense , that apartment too tiny for so many people.ha ha my mistake.

Alina's thread on the Russian skating forum has been suspened by moderators today...
And even on a big sport portal sports.ru there's a very negative article about this one photo. Lots of negative comments below as well. Fortunately people are blaming mainly the photog.

This picture is great because Alina is happy.
She is not a child but a young woman, so two men are also fine.

Her fans are very stupid if they do not like the picture.

I don't like it too, to be honest. Maybe this makes me stupid but I can live with it. I wouldn't allow my daughter to make this kind of photo by the age of 15.

But what is more important than this and all this fabricated "they hate Alina" narrative is alleged "people's calling for change of rules", as is in the article linked in Zhenya's thread. That I consider as real campaign against Alina and her team. The change of rules was considered for a long time, but somehow now somebody wants it to look as if that change comes due to Alina.
