Alina Zagitova

Me too. They are good friends. Maybe even BFFs. ;) It's amazing that they are this close friends when they are the two best ladies figure skaters in the world and I've never seen this before in any sport where the top two performers in an individual sport or close friends. Remember Tara and Michelle and Plushenko and Yagudin? Not exactly friends were they? Lol! ;)

They remind me a little bit of Javi and Yuzu. It's just nice to see :)

Yes. But Evgenia has stayed the same towards Alinka even though Alina edged past her for European and Olympic gold. That just shows me a lot about Evgenia Medvedeva and the quality of person she is.

Evgenia is just wow.... so much wisdom beyond her age and class. Not to talk about the mental strength. the strongest athlete from this point of view.

And yes, Evgenia is pure class through and through. A wonderful role model. The world is lucky to have her :)

Oh, no... now Alina is coupled with Nathan? I think she was coupled ten times this season :(.
I mean for me it's a bit too much to read almost every week about some hints on Alina and a man  and she's only 15.:palmf:

I'm sure it's not a big deal! They've taken photos before at banquets before, and I'm sure they're just friends in the same way Yuzuru and Evgenia are friends: top competitors around the same age/generation of skaters. I'm glad to see her befriend Nathan, actually. If it was possible for them to communicate about the pressures of representing your country and fumbling in the spotlight, maybe they can help each other overcome their nerves and really excel in the next season.

I'm sure the same, but this is not what one would expect reading about a top athlete. i wish there were different types of news about Alina, something that can make me proud or inspired.

No! I just thought it was a cute moment. Wasn't trying to hint anything. I'm just glad to see Alina having fun with friends.

Someone else on IG pointed out that Nathan and Alina's seasons are interesting reflections of each other. They both won everything all season long until Nathan finished 5th at OG and Alina won. And Alina finished 5th at WC and Nathan won.

I don't think there is any 'news' about it, just fans having fun on IG. But I get what you mean. Hopefully we will get pictures of her enjoying Japan while she is there. :)

I have to say her humility and modesty and innate sweetness is very inspiring and makes me proud to be a fan. She handles herself in interviews really well for someone so young.

Maybe you didn't, but surely on IG there are many that hint exactly that. I think it's embarrassing especially for Alina: when you are a fan of a top athlete and that's all you can see in her. And for me it's that moment when you realized how much sexualised the society is.

What it's worse is that herself reads these posts and comments on IG and probably they influenced her in a way or another.

Hopefully she will just ignore anything ridiculous. I think (hope) she is too strong minded to be influenced by any online silliness and won't let it get in the way of a fun friendship. She has a lot of practice ignoring all the 'fans' who try to stir up drama between her and Zhenya so maybe she will just do the same with posts implying anything other than friendship with her fellow skaters.

And I won't bring stuff like that over to this thread again. I thought it was harmless but I can see how it could be taken differently.

That was a cute moment! Don’t let the naysayers tell you otherwise, it’s sweet to see skaters having fun together! As for people shipping her with other skaters on social media, I don’t see anything wrong with that just what fans do and isn’t damaging at all. I’m sure Alina even if she reads those comments doesn’t think anything of it; these elite athletes know how to handle the media. There are tons of other news about Alina, and certainly her friendship with other skaters isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually wonderful given how serious their training is

I think you're projecting. The girl just competed in front of millions and just did a show if front of thousands. I think she is allowed to slap hands with another male skater, and not fear the paparazzi are chasing her around Moscow.

I don't see the connection between what I wrote and what you wrote. Of course she is allowed to do whatever she wants, I just said that she might be influenced by the comments and posts that she reads on Instagram.
My problem is with her fans, at least a part of them who are trying " to sell" her in this cheap, vulgar way.

Certainly this is not what fans usually do... at least when it comes to other skaters I didn't see this kind of comments. Even with Evgenia and Yuzuru nobody implied anything, but a friendship. If it's damaging or not we cannot tell... but for sure this kind of comments might confuse a teen.

There are tons of people who shipped Zhenya and Yuzuru, more than friends. Honestly, these skaters are famous now, as they should be they're amazing, and with that comes a fandom. Not what they usually do? I have to say on the contrary, that's exactly what they do. Tessa and Scott, Charlie and Meryl, Zhenya and Yuzuru, now Alina and Nathan. I don't see a problem with shipping them, whether in their friendship or saying they shared a cute moment for something more. They're not implying that they did anything else, just had a moment and looked cute together. Alina is young but I'm sure her team has media trained her; it's unavoidable on the internet. There have been much worse comments about her, like not deserving her gold medal which would affect her much more than some comments about her giving high 5's to Nathan, and she for the most part is unphased. It comes with the territory, as it does with any other skater or anyone well known. And even if they're saying Alina and Nathan have something going on (which I haven't seen, and they're definitely not) it isn't selling her in some cheap vulgar way. They're both talented skaters and people are just intrigued. It's not like people are saying oh now she's going to throw away her skating for some guy. People just appreciate that they had a moment.

And something else.... i didn't follow closely Tessa and Scott and Charlie and Meryl at their time, and I don't know much about the existing comments.
But I suppose they all were already grown-ups, not teens.... they all knew who they are, and what they want. When you're a teen it's much easier to be confused and lost reading all these comments about you, you don't even know what you really like for real.
And Evgenia... when you look to Evgenia you see a confident, level-headed and trustworthy person, that will do everything right.
