Alina Zagitova

Liza is an accomplished athlete... she is a World (which Alina is not yet), European and GPF gold medalist, and most important one of the few ladies in the world who landed a 3Axel in a competition (which Alina may never be).
If she has an opinion and chooses to express it openly good for her. i appreciate her guts.

No,it’s not a opinion , like Flanker said — this is unprovoked senceless attack, and I ,personally, feel very sad

I don' t think it's an attack, just her opinion. Liza admits in the interview that she was rooting for Evgenia. Probably she enjoyed more her programs and skating or maybe she found unfair Alina's win after Evgenia's injuries and consistent fights in the last 2-3 seasons...

Every attack is a form of expressing an opinion, after all. You mostly do not attack someone towards whom you feel nothing, but because you have some feelings towards him. As I've said, rooting for someone is completely OK, but she did not end with that. With her line she admits only two variants - either you do "mature and beautiful skating" or you do 3Lz-3L. And I really feel that for some people when it comes to Alina every form of attack is "only an opinion", like "she is Eteri's robot". What a wonderful opinion. Yes, but I have an opinion then also.

I think people have the wrong definition of mature skating sometimes. Just because you're older doesn't mean your skating is gonna be more beautiful than younger skaters. (Hello Gubanova, Kostornaia? they could kick most of the older girls in the face anytime).

I'm not bothered by Liza mentioning who she rooted for, it's her right and it seems most people did not root for Alina back then, i'm used to it. And i don't think that's the issue most people on the thread have with that interview either. It's just that, you don't decide while you're sitting on your sofa at home watching the Olympics on tv that someone deserves a gold medal more or not lol that's... less than smart. Especially if you're a skater and you know how much of an incredible feat it is to backload all your jumps. I also find it really disrespectful. From skater to skater (especially when the one on the other end is a 16yrs old), you should be able to show more respect than that.
I'm saying all this as someone who genuinely likes Liza. I know she has a "doesn't give a crap" personality but it isn't a good look.

By the way, do people really think the new rules favor this so called mature skating :scratch2:? The one doing a 3lz-3lo (i also love how it is mentioned in that interview like that combo is not big deal lol) is still gonna score higher than the one doing a less difficult jump combo whether it's at the end of a program or not.

My cousin is Olympic champion Lillehammer 1994 in speed skating, after her victory, many people also said that she won undeservedly, just because her rival fell..so I do not like these conversations

Wow, so great.. congrats for your cousin.

Tired of all the nastiness toward our girl, I went back to her Instagram page and saw that happy photo with Masaru from two days ago: now my heart is warm again.

Always be happy Alinka and love what you do! :) ;)

And I believe that Liza's words was put out of the context. Because, you know, it's Vaitsekhovskaya. Even if interviewee doesn't have a bad opinion about someone Elena hates, she still will find a question that will be scandalous. Of course, Liza kinda envies Alina, but she's a proffessional athlete, it's a normal feeling that brings new strenght.

Well, her intention was very clear then! that is... petty tbh, i'm pretty disappointed. ... yikes

Anyway, test skates are this weekend. I hope Alina's little walks with Masaru will help her be in the best mood to show us her programs :agree:

I will be harsh here and say that athletes, coaches, officials from Russia should stfu and show some respect to their Olympic champion finally.

I never seen an Olympic champion that was not called on a TV show, TV news broadcast, a radio show or whatever. And if it was her own decision, then how bold is it from her?

I hope she will hear her national at the most top world level in the seasons to come. She didn't have that opportunity...

I wonder, who actually among skaters and coaches, was happy and thought that Alina deserved to win? Because that girl was/is treated like anything but the olymic champion. That's a bit sad.

Yulia was. She was shocked when it happened. But later she confessed that she was really happy for Alina, so her shock was more like "Miracles can't happen in real life, no way".

I feel like Alina‘s getting a lot more of the attention she deserves now. At least internationally. She‘s been on various Japanese shows, TV broadcasts, made advertisements for a bank in Russia and an anime in Japan and is the ambassador of Shiseido which is a pretty big brand. While I never agreed with how she was treated after the Olympics, we shouldn‘t forget that. She‘s popular now and has got lots of opportunities. That much for focusing on the good things.

About Liza‘s comment: I can see why people would be annoyed by it even though I don‘t find it to be that bad. Yes, it‘s a bit shady and a bit too obvious and I would have preferred it if she had just stated it like this: “I feel the new rules focus more on artistry and maturity rather than winning by having the most difficult jump layout.“ It wouldn‘t have been so directly about Alina.

But to be honest, I think we shouldn‘t even bother about this too much. Alina will be showing her new fabulous programs (without 3lz-3lo at the end of the program btw ;) ) at the upcoming test skates and she‘ll hopefully be slaying again this season. Who cares about what anybody says anyway? Alina certainly doesn‘t. Remember her reaction to Ashley Wagner‘s comment about her program? So, why should we? There are more important things to focus on. Let Liza have her opinion. We don‘t need to agree with her. We can focus on awesome Masaru-Alina power instead! :)

I'm going to sit next to you because I agree with everything you said.

One of the reasons I am so grateful to Japan, the Japanese media, the Japanese skating fans, and the Japanese people in general is the respect and love they have shown for Alina and her accomplishments. Since her own country couldn't be bothered for whatever reason, Japan really stepped up, took the ball and ran with it.

I want Alina to have an amazing season because I adore her and wish her nothing but the best and I am a fan of her skating. Now I also want her to have an amazing season to shut some people up.

With this statement so obviously aimed at Alina Liza completely lost the credit for me.
In that same interview, she also said that she thinks Zhenya deserved the gold, so it's a double punch.

All in all, I believe she just wants to create some headlines. And I expected her to be above that. :(

By the way i've been told by a korean fan on twitter that she is also well liked in Korea, probably gained fans after the olympics. i've also noticed korean people usually leave nice comments under her videos. When she was in Seoul for Ice Fantasia she interacted with a few fans who shared fan accounts about how sweet she was to them :agree:

So she's treated as the olympic champion, by Japaneses, now.

Me too. I was such a Liza fan. Disappointed that she took a dig at Alina for no reason.

It's almost like the Japanese said - Russia has an Olympic figure skating champion that they don't seem to know how to appreciate. We can help with that. We love Olympic figure skating champions! Watch and learn!

Forever grateful to Japan!
