Alina Zagitova

I think Alina has been appeared more on japanese tv than in her own country. Its weird that one of their biggest talk show host invited Evgenia and Ekaterina but not their olympic champion.

I believe that an active athlete has no right to discuss and criticize their rivals.
It's just a bad sportsmanship. And bad manners :disapp:

Alina was sick at the time.
I heard that she turned down a lot of proposals later.

I don' t think it's an attack, just her opinion. Liza admits in the interview that she was rooting for Evgenia. Probably she enjoyed more her programs and skating or maybe she found unfair Alina's win after Evgenia's injuries and consistent fights in the last 2-3 seasons...
Judging by more than one of your own opinions on Alina (some which have thankfully been removed from this thread) - I'm not surprised that you would see Liza T's sneaky insults as merely "opinions".

Once again, an "adult" skater should take some lessons from a "little girl" on how to behave.

Once again - the Olympic Gold Medal is not a lifetime achievement award. If so, a few skaters with MANY MORE accomplishments (Kurt Browning, Brian Orser, Michelle Kwan for example) would have one.

Alina's win "unfair" - gimme a break. Her 3lz-3lo after misfiring on the 1st attempt is one of the gutsiest things I've seen in an Olympic performance. Ranks right up there with Midori Ito's triple axel in her 1992 LP after falling of the first attempt.

BTW - I enjoy Satoko Miyahara's skating MUCH more than Liza T's - but I don't go around giving interviews saying how there is MUCH more to skating than just a 3A and Satoko should have won 2015 Worlds.

Injuries - Michelle Kwan had a stress fracture prior to 1998 Olympics, Nancy Kerrigan - you all know what happened to her in 1994, Oksana Baiul was injured (back?) in a collision during practice prior to her Olympic LP in 1994.

We don't know what kind of aches and pains Alina had in the Olympics because she takes these things in stride.

And also - THANK YOU JAPAN for showing Alina the respect and reverance that some "notable" people in her own country won't show her.

Sorry for the rant - but this kind of "interview" really upsets me - and even now???? more than 6 months after the Olympics????

She can do what she wants but actions come with consequences. The least of which is disapproval from fans like myself. Not that Liza has to care about my opinion one way or the other.

What Liza said is pretty revealing that she feels threatened by what Alina (and others) is (are) capable of. She has let that in her head, and now publicly showed that weakness. It will be interesting to see how that works out for her.

I hope Alina uses all these little slights, and passive-aggressive digs (especially the ones from people who absolutely should know better!) as motivation to slay this season.

Liza is an accomplished athlete... she is a World (which Alina is not yet), European and GPF gold medalist, and most important one of the few ladies in the world who landed a 3Axel in a competition (which Alina may never be).
If she has an opinion and chooses to express it openly good for her. i appreciate her guts.

You can also say Alina is an accomplished athlete... she is Olympic (which Liza is not and may never be), European, and GPF gold medalist, and one of the few ladies in the world who landed 3Lz-3Lo in competition. But you don't see Alina taking jabs at Liza when she won her worlds medal, or saying Radionova deserved it more. Also it's weird this statement comes from Liza, who undoubtedly has the best jumping technique of all Russians, but wasn't known for her artistry nor skating skills. She won on superior TES, much like Alina....

Yulia was. She was shocked when it happened. But later she confessed that she was really happy for Alina, so her shock was more like "Miracles can't happen in real life, no way".

Mmmm... I don't agree, sorry. I'm just listening her right now (I have a videos of the whole figure skating of OG2018 from the torrents)

Alhazov: long sigh "Alina Zagitova won her..." sign "...gold medal on her first OG. Do not think, my friends, that..." sign "...we react so weakly because we were rooting for Zhenya"
Yulya: "No, we were rooting for Zhenya and for Alina, but it was just so contrasting, it was so... we are used to over the years, that Zhenya always first, and she had clean skating today!" "Alina even can not really rejoice, because she saw everything herself"

No, she obviously was on a side of Zhenya. Just listen to her voice, her intonations.

I don’t believe that Julia rooting for Zhenya, if you know their relationship background of course

I believe that Ashley Wagner started her "twitter campaign" before Alina won the Olympic Gold - I think it was right after the team event.
I like to think she used that as motivation towards her win!!!

I expect "trash talk" from basketball and professional wrestling - not figure skating.

But to be honest - this is worse. Third party "trash talking" - from 2 skaters who weren't even at the Olympics.

Anyway, I'm sure Alina is well aware that she wasn't the favorite but she's still the one with the gold hanging on her wall. I'll keep praying she gives the doubters more reasons to be bitter next season. I've seen so many people rejoice at her performance at Worlds, it's disgusting so i can't help but feel protective but i believe she's strong enough to rise above all that. I mean we're talking about the girl who added a yolo-ed 3lo at her 3lz after missing it the first time, at the olympics, the most important event of her career so far, with millions of people watching. She's a tough cookie

Me too. I was such a Liza fan. Disappointed that she took a dig at Alina for no reason.

You "were" such a Liza fan? So, you're not anymore? I'm always astounded on how quickly people seem to be able to drop their favourites just because they made a mistake and move to someone else. They're only human. Liza's comment wasn't particularly nice but so what? I've made mistakes, too, in my life, who knows how many. People who seem to judge so quickly must be perfect. I doubt they are, though. They've never been in the spotlight. Or under so much pressure. Or an elite athlete. I don't like Liza's comment either. I also don't agree with her. But she's human, she's honest and says what she wants and I don't have to agree with her. It's not that much of a drama, really. Is this little comment worth so much negative attention? :disapp:

So she's treated as the olympic champion, by Japaneses, now.

I do think people in Russia see her as the Olympic Champion. Alina also had a lot of bad luck after the OG, she had the flu and probably couldn't even attend any events. But maybe it's for the better. We all saw what the fame did to Yulia. Even though they're different people and have different personalities, they were both young girls when they won the Olympics. If I'm allowed to be completely honest: I'm actually glad Alina didn't attend as many events after the Games as Zhenya did and wasn't in the spotlight as often. I was NOT happy with how she was treated but I do feel like it might have been for the better. She was sick and tired and all this attention after such a hard season - it can be a lot to handle, maybe too much. I remember her saying that she was shaking at her first performance, she just wasn't used to this many people watching her. She was probably a lot more used to it by the time the Olympics enrolled but really, nobody can prepare you for the Olympic Games. They're just on a whole different level, it's a different feeling than for any other competition. If you think about this, it's even more impressive what she did. But had her case been like Yulia's, had she become the darling of the media overnight, she might have struggled, too. With most of the attention going to Zhenya, it maybe was a bit easier for her to get used to it. And look at her now: What a star she's become. She can handle the attention now and she does it brilliantly. And Alina's a strong girl. Maybe all the nay-sayers spurred her on to be even better. I strongly hope so. :)

It's not even how media and brands treated her which is the most sad. After all, companies don't choose the one who won but the most popular then the one who will sell the best.
It's how she was treated by sport personalities and organizations. Just even the flag barer story...

You've never been in the spotlight. Or under so much pressure.

Whatever pressure this grown lady was under when she said it, I doubt it was even close to the pressure 15 years old girl was half a year ago. Everyone is right to make a mistake, but no one should insist on it, and that's what Liza does. I'm complete atheist with little understanding for the institution of church, but I once heard a priest saying great thing: "I can't forgive you a sin in which you are willing to continue."
