I think Alina has been appeared more on japanese tv than in her own country. Its weird that one of their biggest talk show host invited Evgenia and Ekaterina but not their olympic champion.
Judging by more than one of your own opinions on Alina (some which have thankfully been removed from this thread) - I'm not surprised that you would see Liza T's sneaky insults as merely "opinions".I don' t think it's an attack, just her opinion. Liza admits in the interview that she was rooting for Evgenia. Probably she enjoyed more her programs and skating or maybe she found unfair Alina's win after Evgenia's injuries and consistent fights in the last 2-3 seasons...
I believe that an active athlete has no right to discuss and criticize their rivals.
It's just a bad sportsmanship. And bad manners :disapp:
Liza is an accomplished athlete... she is a World (which Alina is not yet), European and GPF gold medalist, and most important one of the few ladies in the world who landed a 3Axel in a competition (which Alina may never be).
If she has an opinion and chooses to express it openly good for her. i appreciate her guts.
as saying goes "Собака лает, караван идет" ("The dog barks, the caravan goes")

Yulia was. She was shocked when it happened. But later she confessed that she was really happy for Alina, so her shock was more like "Miracles can't happen in real life, no way".
Mmmm... I don't agree, sorry. I'm just listening her right now (I have a videos of the whole figure skating of OG2018 from the torrents)
Alhazov: long sigh "Alina Zagitova won her..." sign "...gold medal on her first OG. Do not think, my friends, that..." sign "...we react so weakly because we were rooting for Zhenya"
Yulya: "No, we were rooting for Zhenya and for Alina, but it was just so contrasting, it was so... we are used to over the years, that Zhenya always first, and she had clean skating today!" "Alina even can not really rejoice, because she saw everything herself"
No, she obviously was on a side of Zhenya. Just listen to her voice, her intonations.
She can do what she wants but actions come with consequences. The least of which is disapproval from fans like myself. Not that Liza has to care about my opinion one way or the other.
What Liza said is pretty revealing that she feels threatened by what Alina (and others) is (are) capable of. She has let that in her head, and now publicly showed that weakness. It will be interesting to see how that works out for her.
I hope Alina uses all these little slights, and passive-aggressive digs (especially the ones from people who absolutely should know better!) as motivation to slay this season.

if you know their relationship background of course

Me too. I was such a Liza fan. Disappointed that she took a dig at Alina for no reason.
People who seem to judge so quickly must be perfect. I doubt they are, though. They've never been in the spotlight. Or under so much pressure. Or an elite athlete. I don't like Liza's comment either. I also don't agree with her. But she's human, she's honest and says what she wants and I don't have to agree with her. It's not that much of a drama, really. Is this little comment worth so much negative attention? :disapp:So she's treated as the olympic champion, by Japaneses, now.
You "were" such a Liza fan? So, you're not anymore? I'm always astounded on how quickly people seem to be able to drop their favourites just because they made a mistake and move to someone else. They're only human. Liza's comment wasn't particularly nice but so what? I've made mistakes, too, in my life, who knows how many.People who seem to judge so quickly must be perfect. I doubt they are, though. Get a grip. You've never been in the spotlight. Or under so much pressure. Or an elite athlete. I don't like Liza's comment either. I also don't agree with her. I do think people in Russia see her as the Olympic Champion. Alina also had a lot of bad luck after the OG, she had the flu and probably couldn't even attend any events. But maybe it's for the better. We all saw what the fame did to Yulia. Even though they're different people and have different personalities, they were both young girls when they won the Olympics. If I'm allowed to be completely honest: I'm actually glad Alina didn't attend as many events after the Games as Zhenya did and wasn't in the spotlight as often. I was NOT happy with how she was treated but I do feel like it might have been for the better. She was sick and tired and all this attention after such a hard season - it can be a lot to handle, maybe too much. I remember her saying that she was shaking at her first performance, she just wasn't used to this many people watching her. She was probably a lot more used to it by the time the Olympics enrolled but really, nobody can prepare you for the Olympic Games. They're just on a whole different level, it's a different feeling than for any other competition. If you think about this, it's even more impressive what she did. But had her case been like Yulia's, had she become the darling of the media overnight, she might have struggled, too. With most of the attention going to Zhenya, it maybe was a bit easier for her to get used to it. And look at her now: What a star she's become. She can handle the attention now and she does it brilliantly. And Alina's a strong girl. Maybe all the nay-sayers spurred her on to be even better. I strongly hope so.![]()
