American Idol 4/24-4/25 -- and beyond??

I just don't get the hype about Jordin. Big voice, yeah, but everything sounds the same, and the look on her face is identical in every song, it's a screamathon. When she sang that Gwen Stefani song "Hey baby blah blah blah" I just couldn't believe the judges were raving about it when I thought it was just awful. I was sure they would pan it, but they didn't and I thought "conspiracy to keep her from getting voted off!" I must have missed something. Melinda, on the other hand, is a true artist. I can't wait to buy her CD.: clap:

Well, to be fair, "Hey Baby bla bla bla" was NOT one of Jordin's better efforts; her only worse performance this season, IMO, was her attempt at "Living On A Prayer", a land to which she should not have travelled to start with. The rest of the time I think she's been quite good. (Tho admittedly, it wouldn't have taken MUCH to be the star of last week's show; that was one rocky outing!!)

Just keeping my fingers crossed that Blake goes home this week. I would prefer to have Melinda win but would be OK if Jordin wins. My reasons are.....Melinda seems to be more grounded whereas....Jordin is still young.... has lots of young years to miss if she becomes the next American Idol.

All three were great this week... it's gonna be hard to let one go tomorrow

and I'm still holding out for a Blake Melinda finish but any way you look at it all 3 are getting deals outta this!

and in other Idol News - Carrie Underwood is the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year! WOOT! She even thanking American Idol, which I think is a first out of any of the nominated idolers who have won

and Kelly sang a Duet with Reba, and it was one of Kelly's songs.. and it was good, but not really a duet song so it was weird... I wish they'd done "Does He Love You" just because I love it when they do lol

Personally, I don't think much of Carrie Underwood's singing.

I was cheering for Melinda. However, probably Jordin will win because she fits the American Idol cliche profile. Blake is too modern for American Idol. Either way, all three will come out winners.

well then I guess she's glad your not a CMA judge ;)

as for Jordin fitting the image - I don't think there is a set image for Idol.. all of the winners have been very different...

I think there is a certain Idol image.

Melinda and Jordin were terrific but I do think Melinda outshined Jordin on technique.

Well, I was a bit looped up on Vicodan from dental surgery last night, but did manage to get through the hour; actually, I think it would have been preferable to have been looped up on Vicodan while watching LAST WEEK'S painful edition, but anyway --

Round One to Melinda. I liked her version of this much better than Whitney Houston's, in large part because Melinda's upper register is not nearly as shrieky as Whitney's. Jordin did an excellent job with a song I had never even heard of (Rose Royce??? Why not "Car Wash", I ask you??:laugh:), and as for Blake -- well, I don't blame Blake as much as I blame Paula. I don't think it's a good idea to be having people do songs that can be easily butchered, and "Roxanne" is a hard one to do. There are a lot of Police songs out there that would have been much better choices, if Paula was thinking along those lines. (Tonichelle is apparently not the ONLY one who thinks Blake has a Sting vibe.... :))

Round Two, also to Melinda. Blake did very well in this round, too, but Jordin missed by a mile.

Round Three, I'm calling a 3-way draw because all three did very well. I'd forgotten that Jordin had done "I Who Have Nothing" earlier in the season; she did it well then and even better this time. I didn't remember Blake doing his song earlier (I might have missed that episode) but he did a very odd song very well. And Melinda was of course terrific with "I'm A Woman", but I liked the way she did it the first time better. This time she bordered on the "bit much" approach, but then again I am partial to the simple, understated version of this song as performed by the one and only Miss Peggy Lee.....

Melinda has got to be definitely in; I'm not so sure if Jordin is now, tho, as I would have thought. I have a feeling that it's going to be an extremely close vote between Jordin and Blake as to who goes home.

Well, the votes are in and I for one am surprised at the results tonight, but not shocked...........I like all three of the finalists, so the end results will be all good.....42

votes are in, and I don't like the outcome... I was all prepared for Blake to go but didn't expect Melinda to be in trouble at all

that being said I can't complain as I didn't vote (I know, I know...)

and yes, it does scare me that Paula and I are thinking along the same lines - but I think Blake/Sting is the only thing we have ever agreed on (and considering what she picked for Clay, she's getting better at picking songs, that's for sure - I mean come on! Mack the Knife????)

Boy Was I Wrong.....!!!!

I thought for sure Blake would be going home tonight on AI and the two females - Jordin and Melissa would be left standing. Who knew?

If Blake wins....I'm going to scream. He can't sing worth crap. I can't understand how he got as far as he did. He is so karoke sounding. I think that Melinda was the best singer of the bunch but I do think that Jordin has the best overall package and they can really make her a star. She is beautiful and she can sing.....unlike Blake.

All I can say is that they need to do something about the voting. I think the judges should be able to score and it should count for something. I cannot believe that you send home the best technical and quality singer of the group. Blake should not have gone this far just based on his singing abilities or should I say lack of them. Based on singing abilities, Phil and Chris could out sing him. What a disappointment.

Dee

Sure hope it isn't Blake. Of course, they haven't had one winner that I have liked! Actually, they've hardly had anyone I liked, period.

I will say, I thought at the time, and still do, that Phil would have probably done a better version of "Roxanne" than Blake did.

I'm only semi-surprised about Melinda. I figured she was eventually going to suffer from the "Oh She's So Good And So Many People Love Her That She's A Cinch To Get In The Final So We Don't Have To Bother To Call In A Vote For Her Because It's All Taken Care Of" syndrome, and I think that's what happened here; I think Blake and Jordin may have pulled more votes in part because they were perceived to be in more trouble. Also, Blake and Jordin have more of a following involving people who will pathologically spend 3 hours dialing and re-dialing and re-dialing and racking up vote after vote after vote, whereas Melinda appeals more to people who aren't going to be that fanatical about the whole thing. (This is a diplomatic way of saying that Blake and Jordin appeal to teenyboppers, who have a bent towards obsession, while Melinda appeals more to an adult crowd...)
