An unusual question

OH. I see. It was the "splits lifts." How is that getting defined. There is a regulation but not sure on it yet, maybe it is just upside down splits lifts. Like Tanith and Ben's new lift is legal as long as her legs stay together.

And how old is that pic gKelly? - I like how they use "girl lift guy" in another of their lifts too.

Is this regulation only for the ladies? Is this a "comfort zone" issue more than relevant to the sport? What was the reason for regulation on the splits lift?

 Toni I think the "lift" in B.O.G was a "package lift." j/k;) Yes, the drop into the hold / lift where "Caz" has his face right in the "zone" is a spits lift as far as I think as well.

What would you have filled it with? A variation on Shoot the Duck? A Crotch Lift? Twizzles Galore?

Did you understand the character of the 'Waltz Triste?

Is it that you can only relate to a particular kind of passion and not allow for other types of passion?

Can you give examples of what does excite you? Do you understand the workings of the CoP?

   Joe, it seems like when you ask people to give a little more information regarding their opinions, it gets quiet all of sudden. The sad part is they never add anything new or anything with substance. They are bores!!!.......and need lots of attention whether positive or negative. Poor babies!!! Thanks for shutting them down.

SEani - IIRC the reasoning behind it was the issue of modesty... some lifts were pretty inappropriate when teh skirt could no longer hide skater wedgies lol

That is what I imagined. :disapp: Not so much that I disapprove of "modesty" or anything, but how uncomfortable people can be with the human body always amazes me.*shrugs*

well I'm a 'prude' by all standards, so I appreciate it... skater wedgies are disturbing lol

they want skating to be fun for the whole family... so the less offense that can be taken the better... more power to 'em

Well, that's why I posted the example that I did. Is it less of a problem if the skater is wearing trousers?

gkelly - I think it is a little more tasteful.. definitely better than a wedgie...

was that lift declared illegal?

Well, it was from 1999. The rule against upside-down split lifts came in when, 2005? I guess it would be illegal now.

I can see that point, but there are a few different ways that is seen - matters negative, doesn't matter and matter positive.

That is OK too,:agree: I am not saying it is wrong, because that would be hypocritical of me. But unfortunately that does not work both ways. Oh well, don't see why if it is such an issue as to change the rules they couldn't just require a "less reveling garment."???? Next will be the candlestick, beilmann, spread eagle, etc... Unitards get wedgies too, but i guess it all comes down to 2 different colors contrasting and one being skin colored.

Geesh, how does that relate to say tennis, "mom they are sticking the tennis balls in their underwear," etc... The crusade never ends.

But hey, I am more open in thinking it is not the "view" it is the interpretation that is to blame. Different school of thought - which I totally feel is OK to be "prude" but it is disheartening that "prude" asking for acceptance does not accept not being prude by it's nature. One seems open to the individual and the other seems to assume or create negative where I feel it is totally unnecessary leading people to believe something is wrong.???? It is just one of those things I 'spose. I still think that that approach is what causes the issues in the first place. Like when a child is asking about stuff and people are uncomfortable and say "that's your choo choo." To me there is no wonder why the "issues" arise as children grow. Their stinking confused and no one gives them the straight answer so their curiosity rises and other "kids" are the only answers that a 100% honest in thought so.... va la, prudes and sickos. JMO

Accepted and understood, but I still must disagree with catering to "notion" because of a small populous of people that might take that sexually. This has been an idea for a while - getting addressed in Japan recently - that girls who show "some skin" are the ones asking for the sickos to have thoughts. If they didn't show "it" would the sickos still have thoughts?

Sorry if that seems off topic, but the idea that they change the rules for ideology and "uncomforted" seems regressive to me. I hope there is a better reason, or at least one that was ALSO a reason.

I think it was at the end of 2005 season because Denk and Stav had the "infamous" one during the "African" routine.

I was thinking during the Worlds broadcast ... don't the beauty queens use some kind of tape for the swimsuit competitions? Whatever it is, I think figure skaters should use it, too.

Seanibu -- I am equal opportunity in my disturbedness.;) Eman's pants always make me think of a photo that was circulating for awhile, titled more or less: "Why bike shorts are black."

oh I definitely am as well... if it's crude it shouldn't happen

with the case of the photo gkelly used for an example I can't see anything wrong with the move... mainly because of the quality of the photo...

the move itself may or may not be 'bad' but if it leaves little to the imagination...

kinda like the Blades of Glory film... the crotch shot is not needed... and is extremely wrong on so many levels (which is obviously what they were going for)

I would have filled it with something other than a lot of two-footed, slow skating.
Yes, I understand that it is literally a "Sad Waltz," it still could have been more interesting.
I can appreciate many types of passions, and lots of different kinds of programs. This one, quite simply, elicits virtually no response when I watch it. And yes, I understand how CoP works. Just because I don't like a program doesn't mean I don't understand the judging system. It means I DON'T LIKE THE PROGRAM.

So, which programs did I find interesting or exciting this year? I loved Denkova & Staviski's FD. Gregory & Petukhov's "Adam & Eve" FD was incredible, probably my favorite program of the year. Navarro & Bommentre's FD, very fun to watch (technically not so difficult, but they are so smooth and are such great performers). Just a few of my favorites. All very different, but all enjoyable and interesting.

I am less judgmental so all I can say is "crude" is a relative term. Wrong is also relative, and what BOG might be saying to one is completely different than someone else's interpretation. Thoughts can be made out to mean just about anything - "trash and treasure." It is what one believes, that is the designating factor in meaning. Not an opinion, Fact. It is almost saying that the work of Mikie Angelo is inappropriate, or that God gave Adam and Eve embarrassment, nope, that was man that gave man "embarrassment," not God. And we continue to perpetuate that. We create the "sinful vision" and then convince our future generations it is wrong. Why, what good does it do. Hiding, from what? Our own creation and who we are as a species.

So anyhoo, the "upside down splits lift" being illegal because of modesty, that in my mind is a pathetic reason. Fine and dandy (limit the positions even more), but because parents feel uncomfortable explaining stuff or whatever, they change the rule instead of saying you need to wear something that is less reveling down there, ????,(they did with cheerleaders) would be a silly and immature excuse of a rule change ever, Totalitarianism?

Now this is coming from a guy who HIGHLY prefers the unitards or pants. I could care less about "said shots" but understand we do not live in a truly free world - the crusades march on and we are told (attempted to be in some) what is "inappropriate" - like a silly word being bad. This stuff is understood, respected and conformed to by me, but that does not mean it isn't totally stupid.

But I do realize there are TOO MANY people in this world who can't veiw the body as a whole and look at it as a bunch of parts - and some dare we even think about - no wonder it is an issue. People are not comfortable with themselves enough to see others as a "whole human," just as parts. What is wrong with us?

Again accepted but I don't think it is right or that it helps the sport OR humanity to take such an approach. It sounds pretty "puritan" to me and was under the impression that sports should not be relegated by religion and propaganda.

Someone please say it was equally due to safety, this is just so "ladies must wear burka and veil" to me I have a hard time swallowing it even though I understand. 'nuf said from me and I am sure you all are sick of me saying it too, sorry.

Saying something over-the-top doesn't help your argument, Toni. Obviously, "body parts that stick out" need to be contained within clothing to do skating moves.

But, like, I'm not at all surprised by your attitude. Alaska IS a Red State after all.

All skaters would have to do to prevent wedgies is to have their tights sewn to their costumes. At my rink we required it for all performances in carnival...it is relatively inexpensive and keeps the skaters from adjusting their leotard constantly (before this rule the preschoolers did not get much skating into their performances which should make for some embarrassing home movies in their future  ). I don't think this idea is a new development, ballet dancers have used this trick for forever. But maybe the thought has never occurred to some?

Who's Mikie Angelo?
Sorry, trying to "lighten the topic" using nick names.;)
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni

or even;)
Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin
Peter Paul Rubens
