Anastasia Tarakanova

Have you seen it?

Yes, I have. I can‘t even say or describe properly what it is that bothered me at the first glance. It‘s beautiful, Nastya is beautiful and it matches the SP theme really well. Now that I’ve looked at it again... It‘s actually what I expect a tango dress to look like. Maybe I was just surprised. I really don’t know. I‘m excited to see it in motion, though! Will she have another dress for the FS as well?

 I also don't know I like it or not...

I am surprised she gets ridiculed for her name. Russians may have issues with it because of the literal meaning and historical associations, but imho as a non-russian "Anastasia Tarakanova" is the most charismatic sounding name in the entire current ladies' field.

Well, kids can be mean about anything. It doesn‘t surprise me in the slightest.

To me all Russian female names sound beautiful. I especially love the Russian pronouncation of Anastasia and can‘t stand it when commentators say it differently. :dev2:

You are right. Most people don't pay any attention to the meaning of the names. As Russian I paid attention to the literal name meaning only from this interview. So it is just child emotions.

Nastya is selling this tango better and better! Some tech errors, yup, but she can skate clean in the FS and medal here. Good luck Nastya![emoji173]

Why so sad, Plushyfan?

I really enjoyed Nastaya's skate today! Her new costume is beautiful (I like how it goes black down the bottom and matches the gloves!) and Ted was super impressed by how she saved some of her jumps :) I can't wait for the Moonlight Sonata FS!

I guess it'll be hard for her to get onto the podium, I hope she can still be proud of her skating though.

As for the last name, wow, how did 'Coachroach' even become a last name in the first place? I guess there's some pretty bad ones from all over the world (including Roach in English now I think about it!), I totally would have changed it myself

I'm not Plushyfan but I know I'm quite sad for Nastya today. This was probably her last chance to get a very high SB (would have to be 198+) in order to go senior next year and it's going to be pretty much impossible now with such a low score in the SP (this is her lowest SP score all season!). She would have to land a quad (and fully rotate it) in order to get a big enough FS score to make up for it. Of course it won't be the end of the world to stay on the JGP one more year but still.

Also I just don't like to see her look so sad the Kiss and Cry....

Oh I see! I didn't realise that about her score in the scheme of things. Being a ladies figure skater in Russia is tough! Are there no other competitions she can go to after this one - aside from Nationals? (Also does that mean if a Russian girl doesn't get 198+ in their last eligible year as a Junior they can never go Senior? Harsh!)

Perhaps staying in Juniors wouldn't be the worst? The 3A (Alena, Alexandra and Anna) are sure to take the Senior circuit by storm next year so perhaps Nastya can make a bigger impact if she comes in a season later after the bruhaha has died down a bit.

She did look sad after the skate, but nowhere near as sad as in the last JGP event (or was it the Canadian one? I can't remember!) when she practically burst into tears. The Junior Ladies do get tomorrow off so here's hoping she can regroup for a fantastic Moonlight Sonata!

The only Junior Competition left that would count toward a SB score would be Junior Worlds and it's going to be a real uphill battle to get there. Not impossible but quite unlikely (particularly if she doesn't medal here).

She can still go Senior/compete at senior competitions next year but she won't be able to make it onto the Senior Grand Prix team so will probably do a split junior-senior season (like Tarusina did for example). It's looking like the minimum score for a GP spot will be about 197/198 next year (if you are Russian) because only 9 or 10 girls will get spots and the level of domestic competition is crazy. It's particularly sad because last year her SB would have easily been enough to get GP spots but obviously she (and Trusova and Kostornaya) was too young to go senior.

It won't be terrible no, (especially given at one point this year she was thinking of quitting) but I imagine she'd like to at least have the option of going senior next year. Of course the upside from this would be that she'd have another shot at actually going to JWC which would help her build up world standing points and she would spend one less year in the grinder that is the Senior Ladies Circuit (potentially giving her a better shot at being in her peak for 2022).

Personally I think this might become a trend though...with junior russian girls really struggling to break onto the senior circuit (for example Tarakanova scored higher than Tarusina at every JGP and beat Tarusina every time they went head to head but Tarusina is technically senior eligible so she could go to a challenger series (where she competed senior so had an extra counting element and also more favourable scoring) and get a very high 198+ SB score.

Yes, Ljubljana was tough to watch when she started crying. I actually have quite a lot of faith in her coming out and skating a fantastic free tomorrow - I think Ksenia Ivanova has a very good approach to Nastya and helping her clear her head to compete - though the level of backloading she has planned scares me a little bit! We don't need any ur calls on that 3Lz+3t combo!

Either way hopefully it will be a program she can be very happy with.

Oh, Nastya... :( I haven‘t seen it yet but there‘s lots of sadness in here. I hope she can come back in the FS. And even if she stays in juniors next year, she‘ll have the best chance to get send to Worlds and medal there. In seniors, she might be a bit overshadowed by the 3A. Next year she can leave her mark in juniors and then go seniors with a great reputation and possibly a world/jgpf medal. :)

I'm probably being a bit moody and pessimistic - I woke up this morning and found that my two particular favourites had struggled and were sitting in 5th and 6th :sad21: ... even my bb pair team had struggles and scored 4 points below their SB.

When my BF told me what Tarakan was, I immediately adopter her as "my little cockroach" (it sounds better in spanish, honestly  ) She's strong, resilient and will outlive us all when things are bad. All hail the "cucarachita"
