She is in perfect harmony with Summertime. It is blues, in Gershwin's opera it is sung to a baby, first as a lullaby, and later in consolation for the death of its parents. It is in a minor key, the notes move slowly, it lavishes gentle love. In the context of its place in the opera Porgy and Bess, it is sleepy and even tragic. Nastya should be given credit for artistic integrity. If you look back, the music of all her SPs are constructed around a slow, held note(s) alternating with a quick little burst of notes. Summertime again has the long notes alternating with clusters of short notes, and this year her movement is the finest expression of that slow-fast structure of all her SPs. Nastya's skate is the embodiment of this music.
Summertime, and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good-lookin'
So hush, little baby, don't you cry
One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singing
And you'll spread your wings and you'll take to the sky
But till that morning, there ain't nothin' can harm you
With daddy and mammy standin' by
