From costumes taken directly from Andrei's dresser drawer or from the theatrical stores of the poor costumers of Averbukh's show, we move on to costumes for competitions. They were created to a custom order, fashion designers taking into account the peculiarities of Andrei’s figure sewed them, their sketches were conceived taking into account the music and the plot of the program. In short, they had to be good. Moreover, they are good. Usually.
On the 4th place - the most hate-favorite and embarrassing of Andrei's competition costumes. Some people find it too "cheap", reminiscent of a music fan's t-shirt with the logo of their favorite band. Some people find it too bright and pretentious. Some people find it tasteless.

I have to disagree with them all.

There was no big idea or plot in this program, except for the general performances. Logically, in such a situation, the costume couldn't be too meaningful. Putting the LZ logo on the chest seems to me to be the simplest and clearest way to express everything contained in this program. It's simple, it's clear, it's impactful, it works.

Yes, at first we couldn't even figure out what was on Andrei's chest. The first time we saw this suit was on the broadcast of the St. Petersburg test skates in very poor quality. The image was compared then to the Eye of Sauron, then to a zucchini, then to something completely obscene, which I don't want to name, hello, Twitter. However, already for the test skates of the Russian national team the suit was tidied up, finalized and the image became much clearer.

By the way, I have a few arguments for those who consider the suit to be some sort of version of a t-shirt with a print from e-bay. Look how much effort went into this work! Practically the entire suit is covered with a pattern that is clearly handmade with brushes and paint. Look at those meticulously drawn details! This is clearly not what you would call a "cheap t-shirt".

Nevertheless, I can't skip the many critical reviews. That's why the costume ranks fourth in my ranking and is not in the top three. It has done its job, but it hasn't become a favorite for many.

Please put up your hand who actually paid attention to what Andrei was wearing rather than looking around. The clothes of his show number partners got more attention, if you know what I mean

But I don't really have any pretensions to this costume, it's actually good. In this case we are dealing with a kind of theatrical costume. It's not a way to make a statement or convey a message, it just identifies the character. And the costume accomplishes that job. We need to see a Perfumer reference - we get it.

There's not a perfect resemblance to the Jean-Baptiste Grenouille costume from the movie, but I don't think the costumer was trying to make a perfect copy. It's a working man's blouse from the late Middle Ages. He's not a beggar in rags, but he's very poor - that's what we're supposed to understand.

Some have expressed the opinion that to reference the scene with the mortal orgy it was necessary to dress Andrei up in a smart bright blue suit, as in the movie. I don't think so. In fact, Andrei's Perfumer has very little to do with the book or movie, it rather kept some sort of general idea and character. The action takes place in the mind, so any costume is conventional. The main character could have been naked from the waist down like his partners (and get even more pornography claims, heh). They made a reference in the form of a poor French apprentice's costume, and that was enough.

That costume does its job well. It introduces us to the character, it makes a reference to another metatext. It looks good. It doesn't cause a flurry of hater responses. You may not remember him, but you won't hate him. That's why he squeezed the suit to the short program in my rankings and is in the top three.

If you want to know which costume was almost the best and which costume was the very, very best, keep an eye on the rankings. We only have 2 days left, 2 positions, and not many variants to choose from!

Figure skater Andrei Mozalev, the bronze medalist of the Russian National Championships-2022, said in a conversation with Match TV that he is physically ready for the national team's control skates, the programs being practiced.

The Russian national team skaters' test skating will be held on September 16-17 in Moscow's Megasport.

- There is still time before the national team's control skates, we can do a lot of work during this period. The programs are set, they have been practicing for a long time. #2 Red-and-black costume for a couple of souls for the free program "Kerber" (aka "Red hand")

You may like this costume, you may dislike it, but either way you have to admit that it's something special. Andrei's favorite program, favorite look, which he even matched with red-and-black skate covers.

For this program with its mysterious idea, the costume was one of the most important elements of the presentation, and he did his job 120% . Yes, perhaps you would have liked to see more subtle language of the costume. But they used the simplest and truest way to get the idea across, and it worked. The struggle of black and red is like the struggle of two entities. The eye as an expression of the soul. Everything is in its place and everything works.

What's more, this costume became something special, opening up new possibilities for interaction between the skater and his fanbase. These are dozens of hands in red gloves, rising into the air after the skater's skate - isn't this a new way to feel united with the skater, to be connected with him by a common idea? I can say the same about manicures with an eye, posters with an eye, plush eyes, finally.

There's no disputing that this costume worked to bring the fan closer to the artists in the most unusual way possible. In this way, it not only polished its job, but it did so much more.

So with all the achievements, why is this only second place?
Because a lot of people are already having nightmares about that eye on the red glove.
Seriously, a lot of people asked for it to be removed, I don't remember so many complaints. I can't ignore it.

And now the intrigue: what came first? Which costume was beautiful, did its job perfectly, and didn't get a single complaint? Seriously, there was another costume this season and it won an award?

Hey everyone, I'm wrapping up my ranking of Andrei Mozalev's costumes for the 2022-2023 season, and we have a surprise winner that you didn't remember. So, the most beautiful costume that has been worn the least often is....

#1 Costume the color of ice and tears for the " Heart Cry" exhibition number and the jumping tournament

This costume has only appeared a few times, at the Russian Jumping Championships and at Eteri Tutberidze's show in April. But it was shown, so I have every reason to include it in my ranking and put it on the 1st place without regrets.

This is what I call a beautiful costume. It is pleasing to the eye, it suits the skater, hides flaws and emphasizes the advantages of the figure. It is memorable, it has an idea, even if it is as simple as " floods of tears of a broken heart flowing downwards". It does its job and doesn't raise any questions. It's a calibrated costume for a program with calibrated choreography. It's a restrained costume for a program with a low-key display of emotion.

Bonus: it looks good in both regular lighting and special dark lighting for the show.

I don't know how it happened that both the worst and one of the best programs were performed at Tutberidze's show, and the worst and best costumes met. Let's just accept that as a fact.

So, Andrei's costumes are ranked, and I'm ready to say goodbye to last season. We have a new season and a new costume (very nice) waiting for us. I have two small photo rankings left, which I'll leave until Friday. In the meantime, let's wish Andrei good luck on the St. Petersburg team's test skates!
