I just finished all 12 skaters of the Men's SP. I never thought I'd say this sentence, but my 2 favorite programs were Andrew's and Ilia's.
And I love Andrew's costume!
The score obviously doesn't reflect how amazing Andrew's actual program is. Andrew's was the only program I rewound to watch bits of choreography.

I like this SP even more than last year's. His commitment to using his whole body is second to none in this field. (Deniss usually does great with that too, but this program of his really didn't do anything for me, surprisingly; that version of Hallelujah is way too monotone for my taste). Andrew's step sequence encompassed everything I love about Andrew: fast, sharp, unexpected variations, matching the music, etc. The other thing I rewound for was that GORGEOUS AND GLORIOUS 3A!!!
I love how he stepped right up into it, no hesitation! Very nicely placed in the program. Even the glide backward at the very beginning of the program grabbed my attention. Andrew moves on the ice so naturally and with the music, instead of, "My choreographer told me to do this here."
The jumps were cleaner at Lombardia, but the camera angles/video quality and the costume were better at SA. Any idea why he went back to the 4T here? I thought the 4S looked great at Lombardia. I was hopeful that maybe he had switched because the 4S could be more stable than the 4T (which he landed cleanly only once last season in competition). Maybe they're still experimenting? The Flip was so unfortunate because he couldn't do a combo. He did a nice 3F+3T in the warmup. This field had a lot of mistakes so he could have finished much higher with a combo and/or a clean solo jump. But a tripled 4T and a 3F+3T would have been a Zayak anyway. That's the benefit of doing a 4S as the solo jump - no possibility to Zayak.
At least he didn't finish last in the SP. I wonder how many skaters he could leapfrog over in the FS. I haven't looked at planned BV, but I think Andrew has a lower planned BV than others in the event. In other words, to move up substantially, he'll need to jump very well and hope for another splatfest. If Andreas has a good FS, he could leap over Andrew. It will be interesting to see who ends up where after the FS. I hope Andrew doesn't finish last at SA.
I'm excited to see what improvements he's made to his FS since Lombardia. Plus, the camera angles will be better!
I was completely engrossed in Andrew's SP, jumps notwithstanding. IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! GO ANDREW!!!
Please keep a positive mindset for the Free! Thank you for skating the way you skate. No one does it quite like you!

I haven't watched the other men's LPs yet. I only looked at the standings. Andrew won the battle among the Americans not named Ilia.
It just shows what a well-jumped program with good choreography can do for you, even a quadless one. He also picked up some WS Points. I honestly was not expecting him to move up that much.
