Anna Yanovskaya & Sergey Mozgov

Hawayek / Baker will be in " Skate America ", so already a home advtantage
a 4th place best finish will do for Y / M

Time will tell.

Ah, apologies. My phrasing was obviously confusing. I meant on TV.

Still, I am going to Worlds... I may see them then...

Ah, and I do hope you can see them at GPF!

Oh, it's okay. But I think it will be very hard, even next to impossible for them to qualify to Worlds. We'll see, of course. Maybe I'm wrong :)

I know it is unlikely as of now. But ice is slippery, as they say. And one never knows what upsets, injuries and skating out of skins will bring (I am obviously not hoping for injuries, but they happen and then bump other couples up) so, as you say, we will see.

I love them. True, that FD is perhaps not the best vehicle for them, but I think they are great and will do fairly well this season. This is their first season in seniors, I think we shouldn't expect too much and they most likely will not make it to Worlds this year, especially with Russia having only two spots, but they have a lot of potential for 2018.

I definitely think they can finish third at Skate America. They looked a lot more ready at the test skates than H/B looked just a few weeks ago, and I say this as someone who's also a H/B fan.

As for Vika and Nikita beating them, not if they plan to skate like they did last year. I do suspect the judges would like to hypothetically reward these two if they are able to skate well, but between his injury and the poor technical coaching Marina's teams as a whole seem to get, I really would not count on that.

aside from S/K struggling with injuries Y/M have not competed in any competitions and will be their first senior outing
H/B have experience and competed in B events

though Y/M need to step up in Russian ID rankings as Loboda / Drozd wil be seniors soon and then the talented Konkina / Reviya

I don't see much of a future for Loboda and Drozd, unless they switch coaches. Alla's technique sucks and their choreography screams Tchaikovskaya rejects. If they stay junior next year, I can see them being passed by either Shpilyaeva and Smirnov or one of the four pairs who debuted this year.

I agree and would add it will still be several years before Konkina and Reviya turn seniors, and she is only 14 years old. Their future, no matter how promising they look now, is a big unknown and really hasn't got much if any relevance to any senior level discussion.

This will be an important event and opportunity for this team. I expect poise and confidence as they are certainly making a senior debut when they are prepared as skaters to do so.

I think it is hard to say what will happen. My feeling is that HB and YM will be treated as fairly equal. I think both will be seen as still junior teams and it will be a repeat of junior worlds 2 years ago, with either YM or HB in 4th and the other in 5th. I think the judges will be inclined to put SK in 3rd due to reputation and seniority of individual skaters, assuming of course SK are 1. healthy and 2. have their act together and that includes doing their own technical coaching since Marina's team seems to be out of it... If SK are a complete bust like last year then either HB or YM will be 3rd. We'll see....

Alla is 16, people! How can you compare her to Seniors? They have two more junior years, I actually see them in potential national team for Olympics 2022. For now, they're not even close to Yanovskaya/Mozgov.

Well, I don't know. They had higher PCS than Gilles/Poirier last season, even if they will be struggling with levels it could give them the edge, because Gilles/Poirier are struggling with them too. BUT these are just speculations, time will tell

I didn't really think G/P were struggling with levels? I thought their TES looked very solid for this time of year, I believe they had the highest TES at Nepela.

Anyhow, I hope Y/M have a good senior debut! 3rd could be possible, but I just want them to skate well and gain experience.

Well, 'B' events is not exactly a good indicator of technical abilities of any team. I'm talking about last season events. But then Sinitsina/Katsalapov were much worse, so

3rd palce will be doable in skate america they just need to skate clean. Goodluck to both! Hopefully the transition to senior skate will be good. They have the presence and the look to be on top they just need to work on their speed.

Somebody in the Skate America thread giving live reports said that CB were great, but YM are the team to watch! I couldn't agree more. I would add HB to that grouping. I love both teams, so I most certainly agree that YM are a team to watch :)! If either YM or HB make it to the podium I would be ecstatic! However, I won't be disappointed if they don't. YM especially, this is their first year in seniors, so.... I think they have a great SD! the FD, we'll see... I am excited for them!
