Any Sasha updates?

Lake Arrowhead is close as the crow flies, but if you live in LA you know that it would impossible for her to commute back on forth on a daily basis. Michelle trained in Lake Arrowhead, with her family living in the LA area but had to sleep up by the rink and only come home on weekends. I don't know if Caroline is ready for such a move.

I wonder if Lake Arrowhead has any schools which young skaters may attend.

Well, Caroline is already doing high school on-line. But maybe there are enough skaters there that they can do something together, though I guess they'd be scattered in different grades.

I know Lake Arrowhead isn't convenient to commute to daily, especially from south LA where Caroline's family lives. But she's 16 now, I think old enough to live on her own with the other kids there, and go home on weekends -- this is the age when kids go to boarding school anyway. If she needed anything, her parents can just drive there in a couple of hours. Or if she's not feeling good physically or emotionally, she can just go home for a few days and take a break until she's ready to continue.

OMG!! Damn it!
I cannot beleive how bad I feel just because my fovourite skater of all time fails to show up after promised come back!!! This is just nonsence. I can't beleive in a such a bad luck plus usual Sasha things....I'm terribly dissapointed. I know we all were kind of expecting it but it feels worse when it comes offic:boohoo::boohoo::cry:ially.

Thanks for the update, RD.
What a surprise....

Well let's look at the positive side. Emily is back and if she is anywhere near her best she might add something to the competition at Natls - which seems all we will have to look forward to from our Ladies this season as far as excitement goes.

I remember Joesitz and his "battle of the flexibilties." :)

It appears at Natls we can look forward to a "battle of the mediocrities" ;)

 The ladies FS is going to be one long competition.

True. If Em can get back to her former self I think she can definitely get one of those Oly spots. It's not like any of the other Americans are doing much better anyways...

Actually, it appears that's exactly what's it's going to be. It will be very competitive, but none of them can hold a candle to the world's best...the reason Wagner was so successful (not to take anything away from her, she showed a lot of potential) was not so much that she was so good, but her competitors were just plain awful. Is she the only US lady that can claim she has beaten Mao Asada in a competition? I think so! but no one wants to claim that when Asada had the worst performance of her career...a real competitor wants to beat the best AT their best.

Thanks for the update, RD.
What a surprise....

Surprise ? I never believed it, this was to be expected. She probably tried and her body cannot sustain the effort to master difficult routines at this stage in her life. The programs to be competitive, need a lot more than good lines and streching, nice spins and spirals.

I forsaw this from the beginning- she had a history of being injury-prone, coming back after 3 years...frankly the real surprise would have been if she were able to simply jump right back into the thick of things...

So what are the odds of Sasha skating at Natls?

Will the dream "flexibilty match up" bewteen Caroline and Sasha ever materialize?

I was so looking forward to seeing the battle of the "skating Gumbies" :p

Is it too late for Sasha to try 4CC?

I know, why would she even want to train for that silly event? ;)

I am sorry that she is in pain and wish her speedy recovery. SA would be less exciting without her. But I also wish if she could have tried to make the decision a bit earlier so that she could have given the replacement skater more time to prepare. A spot at a GP event during the Olympic season is obviously very precious for any skater. She had been informed of regrets voiced by fans about the late timing she withdrew from TEB. I doubt if it had been too difficult for a surgeon to give a recommendation about a persistent tendonitis ten days or even a couple weeks before the competition.

The late notice shouldn't impact Emily too much, since she was already preparing for a competition (Regionals) that started just a few days later. Plus, it's not like she has to travel that far anyway. I'm sure Emily would have PREFERRED more notice, but she should be fine.

Sasha, though, I'm disappointed about. I wasn't actually expecting her to show up, but really wanted to see the new programs in their competitive glory (whatever that may be). I hope her programs don't go the way of Michelle Kwan's lost 2006 long program, never to be seen in competition.

Cohen out of SA according to Hersh:

Why did it take this long for someone to finally confirm the rumor?

ETA: Ice Network confirmation (Emily Hughes will replace her)

I am already anticipating future Sasha interviews where she assures one and all that she REALLY DID intend to try and make the 2010 Olympic team. Sure Sash.

OT but for the past few years I had been thinking of going with a new username or if that's not possible then a new account since Cohen had retired, and I prefer endorsing actively competitive skaters-now I wish I'd done it sooner.

I was being sarcastic.
Of course, it isn't much of a surprise.
What would've surprised me is if she had actually shown up.

Pity about her injuries, but I agree with others here that she probably should've tried her comeback last season.

I hope to see her at Nationals, but at this point, I would feel it a bit unfair to other skaters if she does get one of the Oly spots based on just one competition after being out nearly four years unless she shows an absolutely spectacular form in Spokane.

My really bad Monday just got WORSE. If I could get a refund for skate America, I would. The American Ladies lineup is not my cup of tea. I guess I will finally get to see how fast Yuna really is, but I am incredibly sad. . At this point I hope she does not go to nationals and gives the other girls a chance. I hope the finishing order here does not mess things up for Ashley.

Thank goodness S/Z are still going...

Aunt Joyce gets it right again.

Fortunately for my sanity, I was already resigned to her withdrawal. As sad as it is, I can't see expecting someone to skate at that level on an inflamed tendon. That would be suicidal.

I'm sure she'll keep shooting for Nationals and I will be praying for her recovery.

Emily looked good in that Rockefeller Center clip and it will be fun to see her live, but I'll be amazed if she medals even in that rather unexciting field. It will be Kim, Flatt, maybe Gedevanishvilli, or who knows, maybe Gilles will continue to surprise.

Oh well, it will still be my first big international competition - and I'll see Shen and Zhao.

Agreed. I mean.... WTH!??!!?!?! The competition starts on Saturday (and official practice starts on Thursday), and they just notify us that Sasha will withraw today....??? huh??? I am sure many of us hoped for her return but suspected that she would not show up. However, since she already knew from TEB that she had "injuries," she should have released the news earlier than today. It just seems... so irresponsible. Sigh. I am definitely delighted to see Yuna, but I do wish the ladies competition could have been more exciting... zZZz

Main reason why she's getting all the criticisms.
