Any Sasha updates?

Yu-Na won Skate America because she scored 76.28 in the SP, almost 18 points more than Rachael Flatt in 2nd.

But if she were facing a rejuvenated Asada, Ando or Rochette (all of whom can score in the mid 60s or better in the SP), a 3-triple FS wouldn't necessarily win.

That being said, every skater has an off day. SA was Yu-Na's.

Exactly my point. If Sasha shows up and skates who knows how well she will do?

She may be a little "rusty" or might feel tight from the pressure. Or both.
But if Sasha scores well on certain elements and gets some high pcs - she might be able to win or finish second with only 3 or 4 triples.

If Sasha doesn't have the jumps at Natls I hope our younger skaters, or Alissa for that matter, skate well enough to finish ahead of her.

I may like Sasha but don't want her overscored or gifted onto the team.
But if we see a splatfest then Sasha may still have enough left to make the team.

Or Sasha may have enough jumps left in her in which case the other girls will have to skate very well to beat her.

It should be interesting .................

The point I responded too was made over and over by "silverlake" and it was that Alissa and Sasha can only land 3-4 triples in an LP and therefore could not hope to win.

I correctly pointed out that Yuna won SA with three triples this season. I could have mentioned she won the GPF with 4 triples.

How is that an attack against Yuna? If anything it makes the point that you don't need 7 or even 6 triples to win Ladies events this season.

How it relates to US Natls would be that Alissa and Sasha have certain strengths to their skating and because of that - like Yuna at times - they are capable of winning with less than 7 triples. Or 6, etc.

Since "silverlake" is a big Yuna fan i think this is a point she will understand.
If you don't like me pointing out your favorite has won titles with less than 7, 6, 5 or even 4 triples all I can say is get over it. And be happy that Yuna is such a good skater she doesn't need a full set of triples or to land that many at certain events and can still win.

Well, if you read silverlake's post in question, his/her point wasn't really about the probity of being able to win with a 3 triple program. In any case, I don't know why there's a such fixation with the idea of winning with 3 triple program. There are other judged elements involved besides the jumps like spirals/spins/interpretation etc. Moreover, within the jumps themselves, just because a skater jumps 6-7 triples doesn't mean it's a superior program. For instance, 3A, 3LTz or 3F is more difficult to do than a 3Lp, 3T or 3S. 3/3 or 2/3 combo is rated higher than a 3/2 or single triple. The more difficult jumps that a skater can accomplish, usually is reflective of superior skating ability. Hence, the reason why sometimes skaters can win with smaller of number of jumps.

Sasha is a notable splatter. I hardly expect her to win with a 3- or 4-triple FS, especially if she doesn't have lutz or flip. Sure, Lepisto gets by with salchow and toe loop, but Lepisto also happens to have excellent edging, something Sasha lacks.

People keep forgetting that Sasha hasn't competed in almost 4 years. She is not the 2006 Sasha, but a 2010 Sasha, and no one knows if she is capable of competing at the highest levels.

Pretty positions on the ice are great for SOI but they don't impress ISU judges unless they are accompanied by technical skill, including the ability to execute lutz and flip consistently and with the right takeoff edge.

That Sasha has a chronic injury forcing her to withdraw from both GPs casts further doubt on her ability to make a comeback. I'll believe it when I see it.

After reading that article and hearing Cohen's attitude I suddenly seem to have more faith. She is going for 6 triples in the long (the same number as Yu-Na Kim) and is planning a triple lutz for the short! If she CAN get out there and skate like she could back in '06 I am confident she will have no problem making the Olympic team.

So, her SP jump layout is as I expected: 3lz/2t, 3f, 2ax.

Sounds like the LP will be: 3lz/2t, 3f/2t, 3s/2t/2t, 2ax and most likely 3lp, 3t and 3s. Looks good!

She hopes to do six triple jumps -- including all types but the triple axel, which she never has done -- in the free skate. Her planned combination in the short program is triple lutz-double toe, and she will do triple flip-double toe and triple salchow-double toe-double toe in the free skate.

She sounds like she's been getting it together finally after the setbacks. Hopefully this'll translate into her making the Olympic team. What a crushing blow for her if she fails! Wish her a lot of luck.
