Gee, if figure skating is the ONLY one that is difficult - to the point of there's no way around injury, maybe it shouldn't be done at all... Come on, all sports have basically that same level of injury probability - and in the case of some like football more chance of it being serious head injuries... That's not to say the back and knee and foot injuries of skaters aren't debilitating either (how many times has Browning or Plushenko go in to reconstruct their knees? My gpa didn't need knee surgery until he was in his 70s, these guys are in their late 20s or 30s! - or in Kurt's case 40s).
I am not saying that figure skating is less of a sport or anything like that, it's just when you sit and compare it doesn't add up. And, yes, football basketball etc etc etc all practice countless hours for years and years just like our beloved figure skaters. Do they have that same adreneline as game time? No, but then neither do figure skaters... but they DO end up injured during practices.
