Article: "What A Year For Wagner"

Nice article. I think Ashley has a great shot at the U.S. worlds team this year.

yeah thanks. I was really impressed with her. Her artistry is not great, but not bad either, she has great technique on her jumps and is so far very consistant. also she seems to be a very smart, happy girl who loves what she is doing.

I've loved watching her skate since 05 when I saw her in Portland... she's a great skater :) (and yes at first I was biased because she was still skating for the Anchorage Figure Skating Club lol) I can't wait to see her kick booty in St. Paul.

 at the comment she thinks lutz is her best jump. Flutzer or not, she is a great skater with personality. I love her sp program this year. It's so full of life and well laid-out. Unlike most ladies, she does not frontload her program, which I really respect. I'm not expecting her to be at the top of podium in the near future, but I think she will be at the level of Joannie Rochette pretty soon.

These are my favorite parts:

"So I had a choice of ballet or skating and I wasn't going to do anything in pink shoes."

"Wagner is a junior at West Potomac High School, from which she walks to the ice rink every day."

Wrlmy: Why is it funny that she thinks her lutz is her best jump? Is she indeed a flutzer?

Lurve Ashley and I hope we see her on the US Nats podium and on the world team this year!
And yes, she has a flutz.

I love her also. She just needs to work on the little things. She needs to stretch out more on the spirals, and she needs to work on musical interpretation. But overall I was so excited for her. She skated great. I think she will be the surprise of nationals.

Kimmie and Caroline are pretty much in the 2009 Nats most possible podium list. Ashley would have to duke it out with Mirai for the third spot. How much more would she need in the Technical? in the PCS? in the Consistency? Let's really take a look at this 2008 Nats see if she is a possibility for 2009.

I do not see any of the other US ladies getting on that most wishful 2009 podium.

Maybe Flatt!

If Kimmie and Caroline go 1,2, and Rachel or Ashley go 3, who is going to go to Worlds?

I'd guess it would be Kimmie, Ashley, and the next highest-ranking and sufficiently old lady - ie one who turned 15 before July 1st 1007. My guess is that it wil be Emily Hughes, but then again I don't know many American ladies...

Maybe Flatt!

If Flatt can ever get her 3/3 ratified in the SP, she's definitely a threat for the podium! It's not that she can't do it, she's skated many kick-*** LP's where it was ratified.

On the other hand, Kimmie, Caroline, and Ashley have also been trying for 3/3's this season. So far, Caroline's is the most solid. But Kimmie had it in the past, and Ashley's 3F/3Lp looks like it only needs a little more rotation. Not to mention that Mirai supposedly has also been landing 3/3's in practice, and she doesn't toe-axel like Kimmie, nor flutz as much as Caroline. All of them also have good presentation for their tender ages.

If all these ladies bring their A-game to National's, including the 3/3, then boy, it's going to be a real dog fight up there for the podium! It's heating up to be really exciting. So many talented young ladies up there with such a small podium. I really hope that whichever three ending up going to Worlds this year will bring back three spots for next year! Because even with three, at least two of these five very talented girls will have to stay home -- not to mention that Emily, Bebe, and Alissa are all still trying to stay in the mix!
