Earlier today I found an Instagram photo of Alisa Fedichkina and Ashley. Seems like Alisa looks up to Ashley and from her Emoji's I guess it to mean it's a dream for her to meet Ashley and that she see's her as a star. Very cool considering Alisa didn't really post any photo's of other skaters except the one with Ashley and one with PChan. Ashley seems to have an impact on these Russian girls. Maria Sotskova and her became friendly when training together over the summer and I remember Ashley posting that she'll miss Masha when she went back to Russia.

You need to really post this whenever someone criticizes Ashs PCS in the US.ladies thread;) There's clearly an improvement in transitions, but also spins (!) and SS (now using the whole rink and better SS). Sometimes I think people have that imagine of Ashley skating on 'flat' edges stuck in their head, resulting in them only seeing what they wantto see and not how much she has improved on SS!
 
A year really makes a difference - there were many empty spots but now there are more transitions and speed. I think it's interesting that the jumps are not quite on the same beats of the music as they were a year ago, except for the opening 2A. I kind of miss that entrance though where she kicks up her leg first. I kind of love the Charlotte spiral in both videos happening like a mirror image!

The program has grown and improved and Ashley looks almost like a different skater (with the new costume and hair color). She looks in better physical shape too.

BTW, Ashley also recently formed her own partnership with Puritan's Pride (unrelated to TSL's partnership with PP).

ETA, Ashley's partnership with Puritan's was announced on Nov 4.

I'm so excited for Nationals! I really think Ash is gonna kill it and keep her streak of beating Gracie going :laugh:

That would be great, but... As happy as I'll be if Ashley wins a fourth title, I just want her and Gracie to both medal, and be in the strongest position for going to Worlds in Boston. That, along with what Ashley's already accomplished against all odds this season, will give her the confidence and belief in herself as belonging, and competitive, with the top ladies in the world that will help her the most, IMO.

Ashley has the complete package of jumps, quality of skating, and phenomenal artistry. She's ready to show it to the world, with great SP and FS. Medal at Nationals, yes! :cheer: Medal at Worlds, yes! If the medal is gold at either competition ... icing on the cake.

I :love: her skating so much. And in addition her fabulous skating, she's an inspiration to anyone in any profession or walk of life who keeps going and keeps improving, in spite of struggles that to other people may seem insurmountable.

Ashley has the ability, the determination, spirit, and the artistry to skate programs that, in Johnny Weir's words from last January: That was perfection. That was inspirational. That was everything that a figure skating program should be.

And that, my friends, is why I love her so much. True words.

I'm 19 and a competitive figure skater. When people are 19, where are they? Senior, with triples.
Me? I'm struggling to keep all of my doubles consistent and haven't even started on 2A yet. Long story short, I had to stop skating for 3 years (age 13-16). Ashley is an inspiration to me because at 19, everyone (except my coach and the skaters close to me) say I'm "too old" and should "just give up because you're obviously not gonna get anywhere", and every time I watch Ashley add more technical difficulty and learn more things, I know that, at 19, I can DEFINITELY get through to triples.

Ok sorry life story. So dramatic :drama:
A lot of people just don't understand why I love her so much.

It is good that she inspires you greatly. I love her too. There are many things we can't help but love her so much. Her tenacity is one thing.

Congratulations to Diva Wagner on her skate tonight. I was there, and it was wonderful, in spite of the popped Lutz, which is unusual for her!

The audience was with her every step of the way with applause and cheers. The audience was equally supportive of all the skaters.

ETA: no, not equally. The audience was generous and supportive of everyone, but Ashley was very warmly received. It felt like people were with her every step of the way. Considering all the smack talk about Ashley around GSF, it surprises me somewhat how very well loved she is by skating fans. I'm so happy about that!


I felt that tonight's result was as it should be. Thank goodness. Ashley gets to go to Worlds, and she has something to prove. Maybe that will stand her in good stead!

Really, being in the building when she skates is wonderful. Even when she came on while Mariah was waiting for her scores, I felt so much power in Ashley's presence on the ice ... even just stroking around the rink. Her maturity and artistry are just stunning.

Don't get me wrong, this wasn't the result I wanted for her; but I believe strongly that she'll make lemonade out of lemons. I also feel that she and Raf are developing a positive process for her this year.

I predict our girl Ashley will peak at Worlds this year!

Ashley KILLED it in the free. Even though the result is definitely not what we wanted, I'm so proud of her. Both triple-triples looked like the best of the best. Strong, rotated, confident. That last lutz was a fluke. Ashley is not one to usually pop!
I think this placement is perfect for her going into Worlds. It's definitely kind of a lack-luster outcome for Ashley, so she will most likely be hungry to do even better at Worlds. I honestly think a clean Ashley can beat a clean Satoko any day, (since Satoko is slated for silver), and I really don't know what to expect out of Gracie. She started so well at Skate America and then the short at TEB, and then the GPF was a mess, the beginning of Nats was a mess, and then she came back. Don't know what she's gonna do. Polina just doesn't have the support of international judges (and her PCS will be a lot more then just 1 point behind Ashley, sorry)

C'mon Ashley, you can do it!

Just PLEASE, skate a clean. Short. Program. That is all I ask of you. The rest will follow.

Could we all agree to send positive thoughts toward Ashley's direction in these weeks before Worlds?

I just re-read the Rolling Stone article about her from April 2015. It's worth re-reading!!:rock: (tulosai posted a link to it in the OP). "I'm constantly having people tell me that I can't, that I'm not good enough, that I'm too old, that I'm not graceful enough. I've always just heard it and I've always just used that as fuel. There's nothing that I love doing more than proving people wrong."
