The Figure Skaters Online interviews give fans the unique opportunity to ask questions — from serious to silly — to the nationally ranked athletes who have their official Web sites hosted at Figure Skaters Online. Former Figure Skaters Online athletes and even athlete's fans have also had the opportunity to field questions for interviews.
Currently in the hot seat is 2008 World Junior Champion Rachael Flatt of Del Mar, Calif. One of the favorites for a spot on the 2010 U.S. Olympic team, Flatt finished second at the two previous U.S. Championships and fifth at the 2009 World Championships, her first time competing at the event.
Flatt was the top performing American lady on the Grand Prix circuit last season, finishing fourth at Skate America and second at Cup of Russia. She is scheduled to compete this season at Cup of China, Oct. 29-Nov. 2, in Beijing, China, and Skate America, Nov. 12-15, in Lake Placid, N.Y.
A member of U.S. Figure Skating Scholastic Honors Team, she is a straight-A student enrolled in multiple Advanced Placement courses at Cheyenne Mountain High School, which honored her with the 2008 Athletic Excellence Award. Recently, Flatt visited a number of colleges including Dartmouth, Harvard, Tufts, Yale and Columbia.
Flatt is a volunteer with the learn-to-skate program at her local rink in Colorado Springs, Colo. She also has an active part in Blades for the Cure, a charitable organization started with the intent of using the talents of national and international figure skaters to raise awareness and funds to benefit individuals and families faced with overwhelming financial need in the face of cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
An avid reader who lists her favorite book as Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson, Flatt is a spokesperson for Reading Is Fundamental, the nation's oldest and largest nonprofit children's literacy organization. She was also the spokesperson for the American Association of Orthodontists for the Band Together educational campaign and has an endorsement deal with MAC Cosmetics.
