Belbin-Agosto: A New Free Dance

Smart move! It may sound like a short period of time but does anyone see them losing to Gregory and Petukhov. It should be enough time for Worlds.

Thankyou so much for the links, and to the USFSA and Ice Network for the coverage.

I like it very much, nice music, costumes and skating, and great to see T&B charming the fans as always. :) You gotta love 'em! :agree:

A brave decision to change, however to say it is a "Winner" is a bit previous, there's alot of competition out there, and they aren't streets ahead of any other couple.

After the first USFSA mini clip I saw earlier, which was good quality and I could hear the music better, I came to this conclusion: ;)

Hmm, it's interesting and nice moves, but nothing terribly original overall, maybe for them those moves are new, but the first lift in spreadeagle F&S did today in their OD at Euros, and the rotation lift onehanded the Kerr's and many couples have done, so it was a bit of hyperbole to say every single element was going to be brand new. But looking forward to seeing it skated at Worlds.

BTW lolol at Melissa's face at the back when they're busy posing for photos with the fans.

Oh, I didn't mean it like that. I'm not THAT wild about B&A. I only meant that compared to their first FD, this one is really good. I meant "winner" in the non-literal sense - guess I forgot we're in the middle of Nationals, lol.

Tanith and Melissa shined above their partners tonight IMO. BnT were just shy of perfection for what has been going on lately with them. Davis an White blew my doors off. AWESOME! ALL OF IT, I love this sport!!! ALL OF IT.

Oh no, sorry! :) I misunderstood, but I'm sure T&B will win US Nats, just not so sure about Worlds, even with this new FD. ;)

Good Luck to D&W tonight!

I did like Belbin and Agost new FD.. is much better that the old one... its a lovly program, the music fits well, and for the FIRST presentation..it was great.
Tanith saied that this program its only 45% of his potecil.. they have time now to work on it. ;)

But anyway.. this is much better program..it was a good star ( i not a expert in Figure skating)

I saw the FD and I liked their performance. Lots of gusto and attack! The carnival/latin tinged music was not a favorite for me, though. But, ice dance is not my area of greatest interest so my judgment may be suspect.:chorus:

I liked the last pass - great speed and attack. But the rest left me cold (and I'm a big fan of theirs). I just feel like it is a regression for them. In the "handstand" lift, there is a part where Tanith is going up into it, and her legs do a frog-like thing that is very unattractive. There also seems to be A LOT of space between them and she was very off on the twizzles. I don't mean to criticize, because I generally love this team. I have just not been very happy with their long programs (either one) this season. I think they can do much better - perhaps they need a new choreographer. I don't think it's difficult enough for them.

Just re-watched it on youtube, and I stand by my assessment. I just don't think they look like a top 5 couple.

I don't know what happened to them at the World Championships last year, they were perfectly lined up to win it and then they didn't. They were second at the Olympics and then Navka and Kostomarov winning the Olympic Gold went into retirement and without them in the mix it was for Belbin and Agosto to steal the show and win the US's first ever World Title in Dance.

I think it was either Tracy Wilson or Susie Wynn who had the explanation for B&A's not winning World's last year. In a sense, their medal at the Olympics was partly a factor of all the falls by the other top teams. At World's, these teams did not fall - thus, no Gold last year for B&A.

Thanks for all your views and the links. :agree:

Nice for a first outing from B&A, but having just watched Euros, I can't see them challenging for the podium with that FD at Worlds even when it's more polished, we'll see where they are after the OD.

Davis & White ROCKED!

How is it this couple have never had any hype around them and when I saw them for the first time at SC I was stunned by their quality?

They've been like a closely guarded secret till now with all the hype around M&Z.

Their FD on youtube:

I on the other way think this FD is a hundred percent time better than that sloppy one they had before this season.
BUT I still see lots of negative stuffs in this program.
First, when one chooses to skate to any Yann Tiersen music, one has to understand where his music comes from and what it's supposed to reflect. I see none of that here. They just skate to it as if it was only a waltz or a movie score. Sad sad me. Tiersen is so more than only skating to it without trying to understand why his music is always like that makes me very sad. Or feel very old.
Second : it looks like a copy of what Russians D&S are doing. The same kind of interpretation, the same kind of composition. All is said. When you think you're world champion material, you do not and never copy a program made by a team that is supposed to be ranked below you. Big big mistake in ice dance.
Third : can someone explain to me the meaning of their costume or the theme of their program ? I didn't get it. Either they are protraying the story of Amélie Poulain in which case it's inappropriate, either they admit they don't have a theme :P (woooooooo I am a bit sarcastic but people know me that way so I don't caaare).
Fourth : stop smiling all the time !!! Ice dance isn't about smiling, it's about interpreting your theme and the music you skate to. And Amélie is not about smile all the time if you think of the movie. It annoyed me when Bourne was doing that perky smile all the time, so I still can't get into it. Maybe it's a north american thing, but I doubt you'd see actual dancers have a perky smile all the time.

The good point is that at least one of their lift is cool compared to zero before that one. Second good point is that they upped the technical content a bit. More power please that's all I ask for.
And it's another FD I don't like this season. Woooooooo. After olympic years are always dreadfull anyway. Remember 95 with the G&P program ? :)

FYI the only ones that got me into them are bulgarians D&S and canadians D&L added to my new queen and king of the ice, Kohklova & Novitski. Oh and maybe Pechalat & Bourzat FD if only they could skate it clean at least once.

Davis and White are doing the same program as the russians and I find it a lot more interesting and refreshing.
But they lack the power and the "newiness" of what is waited from top contenders. For a debut on the world scene, it still is a very good program.
She should consider becoming a red head, it would emphasize their ressemblance to A&P. I thought only us french had the chance to see clones, but there are american ones too :)

Davis and White slowly but steadily worked their way into serious notice as juniors over the period 2002-2005. In 2006 they won the U.S. junior title and finished third at junior worlds. To me, they always seemed smooth and solid.

Charlie White also competed in mens singles.

But this year, in seniors, it seems like they hit a new stride. Even in terms of physical appearance as a couple, they have really blossomed this year.

They never got a whole lot of publicity because they were part of the Shpilband-Zueva stable, and most of the attention was on Belbin and Agosto with Virtue and Moir second.

They both say that going to college (they are both freshmen at the University of Michigan this year) brought exciting changes into their lives. For whatever reason, they have definitely kicked it up a notch this year.

Don't like the new free-dance

I don't like Belbin & Agosto's new free-dance. I liked the first one, "That's Entertainment" a lot better. I agree with the person who said earlier that this new free-dance looks like an attempt to copy the style that Domnina & Shabalin have chosen this season (flailing arms and legs, strange 'stories,' theme dancing). I greatly prefer Belbin & Agosto's previous ballroom style free-dance to this operatic one.

It's just sad that the first dance was not accepted by the ISU judges. I think the judging panels are still dominated by European judges and apparently they prefer these Russian-style theme dances to ballroom dances.

To be honest I don't really care for their new FD. Yeah, it's pretty (aestheticly figure skating pleasing) and all, but it does nothing to keep me on the edge of my seat. I have Amelie and I love the score to the movie, but their interpretation really doesn't standout as a whole..
