There are so many of them, they deserve their own special thread!

During Pairs SP, she proclaimed that Pet/Tik had the best lifts of any of the pairs... but the telecast showed Zag/Suid right after she'd made that comment. If you're going to tape any pair out there has having the best lifts...

But, ok, Sandra, I'll note that David Peltier said much the same thing, that Pet/Tik have the best lift. Perhaps they both mean "entrance into a lift"?

So, that's my entry in this thread. You'all probably have tons more. Have at it!

Tikhonov and the Polish Ziuduk both have the best feet in the business. No scratching on either of these guys when they do their lifts and both cover distance across the ice.

Sandra flip-flops on the make-up of the audience at the Palavela.

During pair SPs, the audience was (she thought) overwhelmingly cheering Pang/Tong. As Dick pointed out obvious flaws, Sandra could only coo, "Oh, but listen to the cheers of the audience!" [As if that matters diddley-squat to the judges.]

During pairs LPs, Sandra declared (as if she was trying to somehow 'justify' the cheers for TT/MM): "But 75% of the audience is Russian - look at Russian flags all around!"

Maybe all of those so-called 'Russians' obtained tickets to only the LPs night?

Sandra should never be allowed to commentate on a pairs competition that includes Russians, due to her obvious hatred of Russian skaters, esp pairs. She & her brother must have been heavily marked-down by Soviet judges way back in the 1960s or 70s, when she used to compete.

Not only did Bezic boo boo, but Scotty did as well. I had printed out the protocols and was following along with the programs. If you're going to call element values and comment on mandatory deductions, at least please get them right. I know, everybody is human, but still!

I don't think Sandra gets that many Europeans love the Russian skaters. I would bet my eye teeth that many of the people who booed the PetTikh's scores and cheered for T&M are Italian. Europeans don't have problems or biases with the Russians as Canadians and Americans.

Petrova/Tikhnov usually do have the best lifts, when all things are considered, because her air and transitions from position to position are so polished. Unfortunately, in Torino, they slowed down considerably, like at DC Worlds, when they are quite capable of maintaining speed. (When they do, Petrova looks like she's flying.) Zagorska/Siudek's lifts are inventive and exciting, but Zagorska's air position and transitions tend to be a bit sloppy. Both pairs were robbed by the rule changes that limited the number of difficult lifts.

Jamie Sale also commented during "Olympic Ice" of the enormous amount of Russian fans in the stands for the Pairs LP - she said "I've never seen anything like that before" (to paraphrase her.) I didn't notice it so much from TV.

Not only that, let's not forget that Italy -- especially the Piedmonte region -- always held a special admiration for the, ahum, political & economic philosophy of the old USSR. It's not just Johnny Weir and his sweatshirt; "USSR Nostalgia" is a big deal now, especially in the more socialistic countries of Western Europe.

That's not to say that the Western Europeans don't admire Russians and Russian artistry, period. They do.
