His first name is Richard, but I can't for the life of me remember his surname. He is a general sports commentator that Eurosport calls in when they need somebody.

I've noticed over the years that whenever Richard whatshisname is commentating on something on Eurosport, he talks on his own for a few minutes at the start (sometimes even up to the first set of adverts), and then brings in his co-commentator. In this case, Chris.

I'm not watching LIVE, so I don't know if they are any good together. But when I do come to watch, I'll give them a try. See what they are like. And if I find myself getting fed up with them, I'll switch over to Mark.

Hopefully it's just a case that Louise isn't available this week, and will be able to join Chris from next week onwards.

You were correct, Chris joined him after the first skater, and seems to be waiting till his opinion is asked for before talking! I enjoyed the Women's SP (but not the winner).
Think I'll stick with them for Dance and hope iit pans out well! Good Luck LilahandLewis! :hap10::love::cheer::coffee::clap:
 
BTW if you're a fan of LilahandLewis don't bother reading the main thread on the Rhythm Dance. It's full of what I can only call hate towards them, Lilah can't skate, Lewis can't dress, their music is crap. I am utterly sick of it. I remember when the only person who posted about them on this forum was me. Then DiscoBrits season and everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Now it's knock LilahandLewis and praise all the North American teams and ignore their flaws. It was ever thus on skating forums dominated by N.Ams.

3 Rhythm Dances uploaded, 3 videos Blocked worldwide instantly. Not even visible in some regions, as used to happen. Viaplay are ruthless and it is so upsetting. Wonder if it'll be the same for all major events including European and Worlds? If I try to upload BBC coverage of Worlds? Viaplay don't own Eurosport yet, but they have the power to have theirs and ISU coverage blocked worldwide? This is so bad for the sport.
 
Don't think Richard and Chris is a keeper. Think Chris is still sulking it's not Simon. But I've paid for this coverage so am watching it! Will listen to Mark's views on ISU later, and Ted & Kaitlyn tomorrow.

These things go in cycles. I remember when everyone said the same things about Papadakis & Cizeron. Fear & Gibson just need to keep grinding away at it and improving every season.

We might see them on the top step in Sheffield! Fingers crossed!
 
Congratulations Lilah & Lewis, their first Silver Medal in the GP. I was surprised how much they had changed their FD, leaving the TorvillandDean Barnum back somersault to the end where it had greater impact. They got an FD PB and Total PB, now almost reaching 210 points @DSQ :hap10::jump::clap::points:

Well done Chris Buchanan for putting LilahandLewis 1st in both segments. Chris is one of our more loyal Judges, and I say why not? 🇬🇧🥰 They often compete with no British Judge on the Panel.

Next outing in Sheffield, let's hope they rock the house and qualify for the GPF. :rock:

The RD & FD were exciting to watch, I loved the different styles of program, definitely a notchup from Skate America. I also agree we are living in an era of wonderful male icedancers, Kaitlyn calls Lewis "a beast"!
 
I tried making a LilahandLewis Montage of SCI with slow mo replays, their scores and medals. Just to record on my channel that they won a silver medal there. Instantly blocked. :(:(:mad:
It's like Olympics.
When Ash & Atl and Phebe & James make the GP in the future, we'll have little coverage on videos via YouTube. We will have to find the full video and search. Until they win medals or are placed top 3.

I don’t understand either. This lady uploaded Canadian TV coverage of SCI on her channel and has somehow escaped the perils of copyright and being blocked, so we can hear Carol Lane's comments on LilahandLewis Lady Gaga.

Mmmm. Now that the Senior GP Series is in Europe, we have LIVE coverage of all the competition segments on the linear channels this week.

HOWEVER…

For the Ladies FS and the Men’s FS, British Eurosport are doing that infuriating thing of starting the segment on one channel (BES2), and then switching over to the other channel (BES1) in the middle of the segment.

I don’t know for sure, but I would like to hope that the switch would occur in between Group 1 and Group 2. It could get very messy if they tried to do it between skaters.

But, at least they are showing the full segments, albeit across 2 channels. For the Free Dance and the Pairs FS, they are only showing Group 2 on the linear channels.

Group 1 of the Free Dance clashes with all of the LIVE coverage of the Women’s Race at the European Cyclo-Cross Championships on BES2; and the start of the LIVE coverage of the opening round of the Ski Jumping World Cup on BES1.

But, there isn’t anything LIVE on either channel during Group 1 of the Pairs FS. So, I can’t see why they can’t be shown in full.

Hey, it’s better than nothing (like we had for Skate America)

I watched a bit of Women's Short Program on Eurosport Player with Chris Howarth & Richard? again, but as soon as Rhythm Dance started I tried YouTube without using a VPN, just my Samsung browser as usual, which knows my location, but no geoblocking anymore! YAY! I heard Mark Hanretty’s voice and stayed watching, as his commentary is on another level as far as Dance is concerned, he was excellent. Which all makes me wonder if I should cancel Eurosport before my next payment is due on November 30th. Why pay 40 quid if UK is no longer geoblocked and Eurosport videos get copyrighted on YouTube and the Archived livestreams are available on the ISU channel so we can timeshift watching to our convenience? Is there any Skating Eurosport will show that is exclusive to them? Plus the subscription will only last until the end of this season when Viaplay takes over, so that's 40 quid for December to April. 5 months. Who knows what will happen to Eurosport Player after that?

Finally, the time has arrived. The first Senior GP to be held in the British Isles is happening this week.

Lancashire may be getting Eurovision, but Yorkshire is getting the figure skating! ;) :biggrin:

And there is no coverage whatsoever on British Eurosport’s linear channels! :jaw:

It will be interesting to see if the streams on the Eurosport Player / Discovery+ have the Eurosport commentators, or whether they just use the World Feed commentary like they did for Skate America and the Galas.

It would be such a shame if Chris and Louise didn’t get to commentate on their home event.

Looking at the schedule, I see competitions are not starting until Friday night. It’s strange compared to what we normally get at the Senior GP’s, but I can understand why the organisers took this route. With the price of the tickets being so extortionately high, they need to do whatever they can to maximise the number of people they do get through the doors. And not holding competitions during working hours on Friday is one way of doing this.

The consequence of starting later is that the competitions don’t finish until Sunday afternoon. Which I was surprised at, considering that it is Remembrance Sunday. But, the organisers are allowing for this by waiting until 11:15 to start the Ladies FS. So, the 2 minute silence at 11:00 will be able to be observed in the arena.

I never like when the competitions extend into Sunday, as it means the skaters do not get much time to prepare for the Gala. And, hence, we normally don’t get as good a Finale as we do at events that end on the Saturday.

But, hey.
