Putting this up earlier than I normally do because I will probably be offline for the next couple of days due to setting up a new computer.
The Canadian Championships are always the National Championships that I least look forward to making predictions on, because Rink Results does not include domestic Canadian competitions, including Nationals. (I assume it is because Skate Canada does not have normal results pages, but instead puts everything up in PDF’s, which the software that is used to collect the results cannot read). Which means I have to hunt out Canadian results myself to get a fuller picture of the skaters’ form.
In the Ladies, I deviated from the International PB’s quite a bit. Although Gabby hasn’t been scoring anywhere near as highly as she has in the past, her recent scores are actually quite similar to the other top Canadian ladies (i.e. up and down like a fiddler’s elbow). So, since I like her, I kept her on top.
Emily Bausback was actually next, but I am not very familiar with her. So, because their International PB’s were not that far below Emily’s and I am more familiar with them, I decided to move Véronik and Alison ahead of her.
For the rest of them, I kept them in International PB order. If I am totally honest, I would have liked to put Sarah higher (my Japanese favouritism coming through). But her International PB is a good bit behind Aurora and Alicia, who are very close to each other.
With the Men, I was torn as to who to put on the top, because I like both Keegan and Nam a lot. But, after the year Keegan has had, I don’t think anybody would begrudge him the title.
Pairs and Dance were tricky, because there were a lot of partnership changes and a lot of partnerships that have not competed internationally. So, I just went with my gut for the podium positions, and a best guess from a combination of International PB’s and scores from last year’s Nationals from the individual skaters.
