Christina Carreira & Anthony Ponomarenko

Anthony and Christina just began their season at Nebelhorn 2024, finishing second to Gibson & Fear.

Their programs are in excellent shape!

Their RD: (Long, Tall Sally)
Their FD: (Carmen Suite)

I was a bit disappointed by the choice of Carmen initially, but now that I’ve watched the program I think this will be a great opportunity to continue to grow and improve their skills through the season, building on last season’s character work. Also hopefully they’ll have a slightly less cliched choice for the Olympic season, haha.

I'm not a big fan of Anthony and Christina: sorry. Anthony has no 'extensions' with his legs at all, and Christina has no 'presence' on the ice at all. I kept waiting for them to improve, but they haven't.
I think you’re lost— this is a Fan Fest thread for fans of Anthony and Christina. If you have criticisms of their skating you may post them elsewhere, such as competition threads.

Back on topic, I thought Nationals was the best they’ve skated Carmen so far! Totally agreed with Gabi Papadakis that they’ve made it their own now.

They skated with so much passion and attack, I really can't wait to see their programs further develop at 4CC and Worlds. I liked the idea of Carmen in the fall, but it clearly wasn't quite there. Here, they were so into it she actually slammed Anthony into the boards! I'd like them to try to add a couple tricks to the RD for that lindy hop flavor, but kudos to them for having one of the few RDs that actually feels like a social dance.

I'm so pleased with their performances and placement here! Christina admitted that they were nervous in the FD but you honestly could not tell at all, they've become such tough competitors. They've grown so much and made Carmen their own, I can't wait to see what they skate to next season.

Christina and Anthony won silver behind Lilah Fear & Lewis Gibson at Nebelhorn. Their new FD is Notre Dame. I have to admit that I'm a bit dismayed for Christina to die at the end of the free dance for the third year in a row. At least Anthony didn't kill her this time. I think? I don't know the story except for what I see in skating: the woman dies at the end. I would like to be won over, but right now I wish they had chosen something more original (with nobody dying at the end would be great).

That said, I wanted to express how impressive they are. Their power and graceful control reminds me of Madison Hubbell, their coach and one of my first ice dance faves. Carmen was not my thing, but I thought they performed it exceedingly well. The storytelling was just so strong. Also, I like their new RD.

Yes, Madison works with them but she is not their main coach and choreographer, Scott Moir is and alot of the choreography reflects this.

Thanks for the clarification. I have watched some of Scott's programs and thought they were great but I'm not as familiar with his style as I am with Madison's, so I'm more likely to see Madison in them (even if it were just in my head it makes me happy because it pleasantly reminds me of her). Actually my comment was just about the way they move and not their choreography.

I wish they would do Carmen instead of Perfume, but never mind. I hope they knock it out of the park at Nationals!! 🤞

They featured in Back the Team (some kind of 'mentoring platform'), but...uhm...
