Personally, I wouldn't worry much about Internet rumors. Who are these supposed "skating officials?" The same ones that just placed Asada, Kim and Nakano 1, 2, and 4? The same ones that placed Ando, Asada and Kim on the Worlds podium last year?
Everyone roots for skaters from their own country. I suppose it would make sense for various national federations to want to promote their own skaters as much as possible -- but that's their job anyway, having nothing to do with the nationalities of the competition.
In the U.S., for instance, Mao, Yuna, Miki, and Yukari are all immensely poplular -- along with Asian Americans Caroline Zhang, Mirai Nagasu, Bebe Liang
