-He has his triple Axel back and will put it in his program, but no quads yet. (He was embarrassed that he could only do a triple Salchow, aww.)
-He feels like he's grown up both physically and mentally.

Utako and Takeshi were guests on the latest edition of friends+ (Shizuka's talk show on Nittele Plus) and said that Dai looks happy and fulfilled in practices these days – for the first time in a long while actually. What else could we ask for?

Additional info: Dai said he got injured while attempting and popping a 3S when he wasn't properly warmed up yet. He then aggravated the injury while doing steps. He sounds quite optimistic and says he's learned to be patient.

In an e-mail interview with Japantimes David Wilson talked about finally having the opportunity to work with Daisuke again:

“It went really well and he’s more amazing than ever,” Wilson wrote in an email to Ice Time. “You can really see the increased maturity in his skating. It was so much fun and inspiring for me to work with him again. He’s just the coolest guy in skating!!!”

Japantimes also briefly interviewed Moa Iwano, who trains alongside Dai as a student of Nagamitsu- and Honda-sensei, a month ago. She too had complimentary things to say about her senpai:

“Working with Daisuke is great, because he is very talented and very generous,” Iwano said Sunday night in an exclusive interview, following a four-day junior training camp at Chukyo University. “He’s so good for me. He’s really a positive influence on my skating.”

“He is training very hard every day,” Iwano stated. “He always comes to me and offers his help and encourages me."

“If I am struggling with my jumps, he will tell me, ‘You can do it. You can do it.’ ”


Iwano detailed her aspirations for the 2018-19 season to Ice Time.

A Japanese edition of John Grant with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra: Live in Concert will be released on September 28. This work was originally release in 2015, and it looks like his label decided to release the Japanese edition now because it's getting so much attention because of Dai.

If he's happy with what's he's doing now, it will make me happy, too.

Those Nikkei articles were great reads, thanks for the links.
Nice to hear him say that his combo jumps that were often tight on the second jump in his later career has now been improved, though that doesn't mean I have high expectations from him in his comeback in the technical aspect, I'll just take it easy and will enjoy what he wants to show on the ice.
Also, as a fan of Ryuichi Sakamoto I'm excited Dai is skating to Sheltering Sky. I suppose it's the trio version from the album 1996 and not the OST version. Also looking forward to see the free done by Richaud that Dai said in one of those articles would be very different from what one would think of as Dai's program.

(Since Dai seemed to enjoy experimenting with the choice of choreographers in his career I kinda secretly hoped he would ask someone that would surprise us all, like Machida for instance.)

He reiterated this so much over the past few years that I constantly feared he'd turn his back on skating altogether at some point. I'm incredibly relieved that he has found his mojo and says he genuinely enjoys skating again! It took him a bit over three years and a couple of "detours" to realize that he belongs on the ice. I can imagine the many varied experiences he gained along the way will prove to have been very valuable and will enrich his future performances. Can't wait to see the "new" Dai soon! Which brings me to...

:eeking: Are you buying it? Then I have to mention before you click thru Amazon. I wrote it was unique and interesting but it may be only to me I'm afraid, synesthesia. This book was criticized when published, heavily criticized back then, esp by those who's become Dai fans upon winning Oly Bronze medal in Vancouver IIRC. sigh... Such as, imperfect proof reading, the writing style is immature unprofessional almost childish!, can't believe she's really a Nikkei writer? Published by Nikkei only made things worse, you know, since this newspaper is considered as Japanese virsion of 'Wall Street Journal' in my country. :disapp: Good sides of this book is its price; very cheap, and its size; approx 12cm x 15cm very handy so that I could hide it deep in my business bag from my hubby's suspicious eyes . Insightful on people on Team D1sk and a couple of things that happend to the team, guessing Hara-san had been following the team to abroad for some years. Also, very informative on the sport; specifiyng prize money on competitions, common ideas as a sport business and/or how the politics works within the sport. Very interesting, but again maybe to me.
ETA Photos are nice. Short comments on each photo by the photographer Ken Kobayashi at the end of book are even better! Like "Free at Vancouver. At the opening, he did challenge for a quad but fell. As a professinal cameraman I can say for sure; that was the coolest/most kakkoii fall the world has witnessed EVAR! No doubt." :thumbsup:
