Daisuke Takahashi

deedee are you going to Nationals? Where are they this season? It would be so great if you could see Dai competing again!

Gorgeous. Are you READY for the ride my sister! :yay:

No, not yet my sis. Need a couple of weeks to recover from the SHOCK, I guess... For almost four years I've been following/enjoying the sport with more relaxed, sort of lukewarm state of mind, and without getting too nervous or worrying about his knees anymore, you know.

In the afternoon of that day, my husband suddenly asked me while reading short online news messages, "Oh? Did you know that?" "Knew what?" "Your Daisuke has announced he is coming back to competitions." "No way. what's the source? Nikkan sports? A tabloid... :disapp: I read somehwere there would be a pro competition with less jumping passes for retired skaters in the States in the summer. Should be this. Period." One hour later he said again, "Honey, how about this source? Asahi Shimbun: Today Daisuke Takahashi has announced he will be competiting again. Very very reliable source. ;)" "NO way. :rolleye: Then maybe he's meant 'Japan Open', which Nobu competed and skated just brilliantly with jaw-dropping 2 quads. Remember? It's the post Oly season, everything's still slow and peaceful atmosphere, must be a perfect occasion as a 'curtain call' for Dai to say goodbye to his home fans. That's it." Later during dinner time home while watching usual 7pm NHK news nonchalantly, I heard 'Minasan! Takahashi Daisuke senshu ga kaette kimasu!!' NO WAY!!! :eeking: I dropped one of my chopsticks.

Re his comeback, I have a mixed feeling like MaiKatze. But as she said, I am just super happy for the fact that we will be able to see Dai again on competitive ice and two more of competitive programs of him, which has been definitely an 'impossible/unfinished dream' for all his fans since Sochi... Thus I feel like I'm still dreaming. :)

:biggrin:this is so cute:biggrin:

You're always such a sweetheart, deedee! ❤ Let me cyber-hug you tightly right back! :ghug: You know I regretted not having followed Dai's first competitive career together with fellow fans, because I only found the online fs community towards the end of his career and then was too shy to join any discussions until way after his retirement. It's so beautiful that now veteran fans like you, demarinis, MaiKatze and everyone else, who has been active in here for years get to cheer for him together with new fans, who are just discovering him. (A warm welcome to the new faces in Dai's FF! :))

I'm still relatively short on time I can spend online, but no matter what this time I will make sure not to "suffer" (preferably cry out of joy!) on my own and am looking forward to freaking out over him with all of you together! :cheer2: :handw:

How lovely we can be fangirling for Dai together at competitions?! :dance2: However, you make us feel old by calling us veteran though it's true, young synesthesia. ;)

Thanks! :) But I have to check the venue first. Can be going if it's in Tokyo area, otherwise no I think. My hubby's very suspicious already of me about bringing up a plan.

^^ Love his humble and realistic attitude! He unsurprisingly hasn't changed one bit in that regard.

Kazuki Tomono was asked about Dai's comeback in an interview at Dreams on Ice and he had very complimentary things to say! I'm sure they'll inspire each other to give it their all in order to make it to the national podium. I'll certainly cheer for both of them!

Many thanks to the translator!

Dai built his parents a house. What a great guy!

I hope his family is safe and well given the horrible flood in Kurashiki. Has anyone heard about them?

Daisuke is on the cover of the August issue of Patinage magazine. There will be a 6 page article on Daisuke, with a beautiful black and white cover and exclusive photos taken in Courchevel during summer training. The Patinage Facebook site has more of the B&W pictures by photographer Olivier Brajon.

I really admire the deep passion for skating in competition that Dai has shown. The seasons right after every Olympics used to be such a bore, but what a surprising and exciting season that can be because of the news! I don't think he would mind scores and placements in the near future and I miss his blazing steps and we're going to see them in competition regardless of what kind of competition can be.

There will be a broadcast of 'Love on the floor,' starring Daisuke Takahashi.

Like many of you, I was stunned by Dai's announcement. Many times I've considered posting in this thread, but I couldn't even sort out my own thoughts about his return.

I'm so glad fans (especially long time fans like deedee---love your chopstick dropping story!) will get to see more of his amazing artistry. Dai never needed to do any jumps to mesmerize me. But I'm also troubled by the thought that he's had these gnawing, unsettled feelings in him for years--he didn't return simply because the thirst to compete was again upon him. It makes me sad that he didn't get to leave the sport on his own terms. That's what troubled me about how Michelle Kwan left the sport in 2006, also. *sigh* (and yes, it makes me miss Olympia again).

That tiny snipppet of his FS someone posted... He moves so beautifully I don't need any music. I just want the privilege of watching him skate that program with the same freedom just once this season. If it's at Kinki regionals I hope some footage shows up on the evening broadcast! I know he will never lack fans or fan appreciation, whatever path he chooses, because his uniquely endearing character shines through always, whether he's dancing on ice or on the dance floor, talking about skating or young skaters, or speaking as a member of a news broadcast team.

*fingers crossed that his return is everything he hopes it will be*

I'm going through so many emotions! I'm so happy Dai is coming back! He's one of my absolute fav skaters evah!!! But also, Denis last tweet/retweet was of Dai coming back. And now I'm crying all over again!!

I think Daisuke is said to be in Toronto now working with David Wilson on his new program, and I wondered if we perhaps get some message from that. He said he is at loss for words, and posted a picture of Denis on his Instagram account.

Suddenly this all seems so meaningless. I mean, I still look forward to the new season and life does go on but it just proves how precious every moment is. I'm going to enjoy the heck out of Daisuke this season. To think that Denis Ten also just worked with Benoit Richaud and David Wilson on programs last season.....

Clicking through to the last picture on the right you can see that Dice Murakami was the one taking the photos! So nice to see Dai and Dice met up in Canada!

I'm wondering if Dai worked with DW on his choreo at the Richmond Training Center or at the TCC in Toronto?

Oh my, HOW on earth has Dai's body fat all gone?! It's been full 4 years since. Lean, fit and muscular!

Dai looks soooo YOUNG again! :luv17:

If I look back when I saw on TV Utako sensei in the KnC with Keiji at PyeongChang Games, I remember I felt a little odd/strange in a good way; to my eyes she looked much younger, beautiful, more, er, sort of energetic than during her days with Daisuke towards the end in 2014 tbh. Once Dai's announcement of making a comeback broke out, I realized why she looked also young like Dai now. :)

Has anyone read Keiji's comment on his comaback btw? From the way he sounded I think neither Dai himself nor Utako sensei told him anything directly. But as he watched Dai practicing jumps really intensively in spring, Keiji wondered 'why' so much jumps? for a show skating? In May, he talked to his own physical trainer: 'It IS possible, Dai chan will comeback.' ;)

Thank you! Looking forward to "the spice that warms your cocoa this season. The mulled wine. The Kobe beef." ;)

Oh,how I missed his sublime musical interpretation, exquisite footwork and dance steps, and the heavenly head movements. Just last night, I watched Dai's Beatles Medley FS and was brought to tears once again by the Long and Winding Road sequence, where he floated across the rink with such elation, every movement accentuating the beautiful music, becoming one with the spirit of the composition. Thank you, Daisuke, for not giving up and returning once more to grace us with your passion and talent!

Thanks for sharing Bev Smith's fantastic article, demarinis! :)

Love his Beatles Medley! Say what you want about Lori Nichol, this program was a perfect fit for Dai at the time. To me that’s the program that really showed his advanced skating skills towards the end of his career off. Yes, his knee was hampering him and sabotaged his jump consistency, but he had amazing flow and heavenly footwork + deep edges and of course wonderful interpretation to make up for it. And when his jumps were there they were beautifully airy too (NHK!) Seamlessly incorporated into the program as well.

To think we'll get to witness the beauty of his skating in competition once more... (If only he could refrain from giving me a heartattack with his insistence on trying quads with his bum knee. :drama:)
