Haruya Sasaki has been discussing Kassouya with "Medalist" voice actress/Kassouya cheerleader Natsumi Haruse on his youtube channel. In the latest episode they had these lovely words to say about Dai-chan (confirming what so many people, who had the opportunity to get to know and/or to work with him, have said about him over the years) 🫶:

Natsumi: I really think that everyone gets along really well, and I think that's really great, and I'm sure it's because of the atmosphere that Daisuke-san has created, and how can I put it, he has a good eye for bringing everyone together.
Haruya: That's right, there's just such a strong sense of camraderie among the people sorrounding Daisuke, it's really like that. It's not like Daisuke is overly active/acting "like crazy", but he's really involved in everything. From a master's perspective, Daisuke is incredibly easy to talk to and kind and it's like "I can't believe there are people as wonderful as him". He has an incredible ability to attract people.
Natsumi: I think it's because of his personality, that everyone really loves Daisuke, and it feels like they're all one.
Haruya: Yes, that's true, it's amazing, everyone is a fan of Daisuke, and as you said, it's a really good company and it really feels like we've become a great team, a great company.

On 15 May the Honda sisters (Marin, Miyu and Sara) were guests on Poka Poka - I uploaded the episode on google drive:

This fan summarized some of the (tongue-in-cheek ;)) banter:

When asked what kind of person Takahashi Daisuke is, Marin said, "Everyone around my generation calls him Dai-chan and that’s because Daisuke Takahashi’s kindness is overflowing. But when it comes to skating/performing, he switches gears and is extremely cool."
Dai-chan was reluctant to say, “I don't do that kind of thing [switching gears] on Poka Poka.” Iwai-san added, "I haven't seen that so far," to which Marin replied, "Since elementary school, I've been calling him 'Daichan,' and he has kindly talked to me at the same level."
Sawabe-san asked, "As a figure skater, he must be an incredible presence, right?"
Marin responded, "Absolutely, he is a legend."
Sawabe said, "A legend, huh?"
Dai: "Yes. That's right, I'm a legend!" He got into the mood, but after that, he quickly apologized, saying "I'm sorry" (while laughing).

Fan art referencing the Art & Entertainment on Ice cover 😊:

Dai on the cover of Sunday Mainichi; the magazine also features a 5-page photospread/interview:

Skater Daisuke Takahashi appears in #Sunday Mainichi on sale on 3 June (Tue) for the first time in six months! In the interview pages, which is 50% larger than usual, he talks a lot about the prospects of #Hyoen 2025, which will start soon.

Dai-chan modeled kimonos/yukata for a series of styling articles by kimono stylist Yakushinji Kaoru. Dai is the first male guest in the series and this edition is appropriately called "Yukata for men with sex appeal". 😍 :dbana:

Part 1:

Yukata for men with sex appeal feat. Daisuke Takahashi ‘Kimono, why don't you try it on?’ vol.10-1
2025.06.20
This is the tenth in a series of styling articles by kimono stylist Yakushinji Kaoru. This time, for the first time since the series began, we have a male guest. Professional figure skater Daisuke Takahashi was invited to join us, and we proposed a ‘free/non-resctrictive and fun yukata style’.

Table of contents:
  • Daisuke Takahashi's free and fun yukata style:
  • The image of the group dance of ‘Kassouya’. A yukata with dancing goldfish tail fins.
  • A yukata with snowflakes that delivers a cool feeling.
  • Takahashi's mastery of beauty on the ice is likened to the eye-catching peony flower.
  • Performance information
Why don't you try on a kimono?
Daisuke Takahashi wears a yukata style that he enjoys freely.
This series features interviews with people active in fields other than kimonos, who talk about their experiences of wearing kimonos under the guidance of kimono stylist Kaoru Yakushinji.
Time slip to the Showa era with the queen of mimicry! feat. MICHIKO SHIMIZU, we are joined by professional figure skater Daisuke Takahashi.
His numerous awards include a bronze medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, a World Championships victory and a Grand Prix Final win in 2012 - all firsts for a Japanese male.
He is also attracting attention for his double starring role with Takahisa Masuda in the ice show ‘Hyoen 2025 - Kagamon no Yasha’ to be held at Yokohama Arena in July 2025, with Yukihiko Tsutsumi in charge of direction and SUGIZO in charge of music.
In the ice show ‘Kassouya’, which he fully produces, he focuses not only on being a performer but also on discovering and nurturing young skaters, creating an unprecedented entertainment on the ice.
For Mr Takahashi, who is expanding his field of activity, Yakushinji proposed a ‘free/non-resctrictive and enjoyable yukata style’.
She selected a yukata from Nishioka Pencil, a popular brand that brushes up traditional patterns with a modern twist from a unique perspective, and offers a choice of designs for both men and women.
"I chose the locations and outfits with the image of a relaxing time at home or a day off to enjoy hobbies at favourite places.
Yukata worn at fireworks displays and festivals are wonderful, but I think there is a sense of comfort that can be experienced only when you wear it casually on an ordinary day.
I would be delighted if you could enjoy the intersection of Takahashi's eye that draws the viewer in and his presence that transcends existing boundaries, and the atmosphere of an ordinary day" (Yakushinji).
With the image of a group dance in “Kassouya”. Yukata with dancing goldfish tail fins
First, Yakushinji chose a dynamic yukata covered with goldfish tail fins. It is impressively styled with two layers of bright red and two layers of a different colour, black.
The inspiration behind the selection of this pattern came from her impression of an ice show.
"When I saw the group dance in the “Kassouya” show, I was impressed by the way the group skated on the ice like a school of swimming fish, and the costumes that fluttered in the wind like the tail fin of a goldfish, which I thought was beautiful. I chose this yukata with that image in mind.
I was really impressed by how beautiful the costume looked like the tail fins of a goldfish! The perfect yukata!

The yukata is a popular pattern that symbolises the brand, but it is also quite common for men to choose red and women to choose black. Even adults who are a little embarrassed by the goldfish pattern can easily try the caudal-fin-only design.
There is also a twist to the Hakata-ori obi, which brings out the flower-embellished pattern in the right light.
"It is a highly versatile obi that can be folded in three and used by men. It is also good that the width can be fine-tuned to suit your physique and preferences" (Yakushinji).
Yukata that delivers a cool feeling
The second co-ordinated yukata features snowflakes, which have a strong affinity with figure skating, all over the yukata.
"Although snow is a seasonal word in winter, yukata with snowflake patterns are standard and popular, and summer co-ordination using snow motifs in accessories such as obidome is also widely favoured. Playing with snow patterns and snowflake motifs can invite a sense of coolness.
"It is a sign of ingenuity and wisdom to survive the hot Japanese summer, and was already incorporated into the kimono of common people in the Edo period" (Yakushinji).
Of all the kimonos Takahashi-san wore that day, this one he liked the most for its comfort.
"I usually like shirts that have a soft, terro cotto feel to them. I really liked the soft touch of this yukata." (Takahashi)
"This yukata uses a highly functional material developed by Toray Industries, Inc. called Theo Alpha. It has gained popularity in recent years because it dries quickly even when sweating and does not require ironing after washing. In addition, the printing is done by digital textile printing, realising a highly flexible design" (Yakushinji).
Takahashi, who said he liked not only the comfort of the yukata but also the way it coordinated with his clothes, also reflected on how he usually chooses his clothes.
"In clothes, I prefer loose-fitting. I had an image that Japanese clothes had to be neat and tidy, but I like a relaxed feel."
"Of the three patterns worn today, the styling was particularly conscious of “relaxed”. The innerwear is a pair of trousers (Ground Y) with a hakama-like silhouette" (Yakushinji).
This is a coordinated look that gives a sense of security, whether he walks with his legs open or lounges on the sofa. This is a summer yukata that allows you to relax.

'This ‘Snow Mon Kaleidoscope’ and the ‘Hanabashii’ yukata featured at the end are new for 2025 by Nishioka Pencil. They were kindly tailored in Mr Takahashi's size for this shoot. "A yukata tailored to your size is easy to put on as there are no unnecessary parts. I recommend it because it makes you look beautiful and is easy to wear."
Takahashi-san, who has mastered the art of beauty on ice, is likened to an eye-catching peony flower.
The final co-ordination is the cool white and light blue “Hanabattei” (flower-inspired). Peonies, chrysanthemums and nadeshiko are depicted in bold bloom.
"Among flowers, I really like chrysanthemums, so I'm very happy." (Takahashi)
"I see! I'm glad you're happy. The pattern is elegant and gorgeous, as befits the name “Hanazasshi”, but the peonies of the “Shima Nishiki” variety are depicted in the largest part of the pattern. It is characterised by its beautiful striped pattern and was produced in Shimane Prefecture in 1974.
"It is said to be one of the most popular peony varieties and everyone looks back on it, even if they are not peony lovers. I felt that its out-of-the-standard beauty and the fact that it is so eye-catching made it a perfect match for Mr Takahashi's image" (Yakushin-ji).
"A fan with a hand-painted net pattern from Asakusa's Bunsendo and an antique cigarette case. I used small accessories to express a sense of casualness and familiarity, as if he had just wandered into his favourite shop" (Yakushinji).
Mr Takahashi says it is comfortable and light and easy to wear, and he likes it. He wears it with a white square sash with a “flower knot” design for a summery, fresh look.
'Of course, yukata with bold floral patterns like this are great for women, but I highly recommend them for men as well. By wearing a yukata with an elegant and soft atmosphere, the sharp coolness and strength of the wearer stands out even more, and a lustrous and dignified summer look can be achieved' (Yakushinji).
"Summer will soon be in full swing. This year, I would be delighted if you could enjoy yourself even more than usual in an “ordinary day yukata” or a “relaxed yukata”." (Yakushinji)

The photos accompanying part 2 are no less stunning - the first part of an interview with Dai is also included:

If you enjoy yourself, you will surely reach someone else's heart. Pro figure skater Daisuke Takahashi (Interview part 1) ‘Why don't you wear a kimono?’ vol.10-2
2025.06.27
Professional figure skater Daisuke Takahashi wears a yukata, styled by Kaoru Yakushinji. We asked him about his memories of kimonos and his family, as well as his background on how he creates expression in figure skating.
Table of contents
  • Memories of my mother coming to the school in a kimono on visits to the school
  • Sensitivity that can only be created with the Japanese touch
  • Rather than working alone, working as a team. Creating expressions while being inspired.
  • "It's sure to strike a chord with someone" when you're having fun
  • Performance information
  • Please look forward to the second part of the interview!
Memories of my mother who used to come in a kimono for school visits
Yakushinji Kaoru (hereafter Yakushinji): Takahashi-san, can you tell us about your original experiences, memories and impressions of kimonos?
Daisuke Takahashi (hereafter Takahashi): For my own memories of wearing kimonos, it was the Shichi-Go-San period. I still have photographs and they leave a lasting impression. I also sometimes wear them as a costume for photo shoots. Actually, my mother, rather than myself, loves kimonos and wears them often. For example, she usually went out in a kimono on public occasions such as visits to the school. I have three older brothers, and come to think of it, my grandfather always wore a kimono too.
Yakushinji: How wonderful! Four boys and a mother in a kimono is very picturesque, isn't it?
Takahashi: Somehow, I thought my mother was more beautiful in a kimono than in western clothes. The way you don't normally see her, especially with her hair, changes the impression quite a bit. My mother's hair was sometimes short, but when it was long, it was pulled back neatly, and the way it stood up straight was an ‘ah-ha’ feeling in my mind as a child.
Yakushinji: Your mother is wonderful, but Takahashi-san is also very good at catching these changes even at a young age. You have a rich sensitivity, and it's wonderful. It would be great if a son said something like that to you.
Sensitivity that can only be created with the Japanese touch
Yakushinji: You have had a lot of experience representing Japan on the world stage, did you ever think about ‘Japanese’ colours and patterns when thinking about your own costumes?
Takahashi: Actually, I haven't done Japanese costumes very often, only once since I started ice dancing. In any case, I have the impression that it was finished with a modern touch. In terms of music, I think that Japanese music alone is a bit quiet and has few movements. So I add it as an element in the music. The costumes are often a mix of Japanese and Western styles, naturally.
However, when it comes to what overseas people imagine as "Japanese," for some reason, there is a hint of traditional Chinese clothing. I had the impression that something made with a Japanese sensibility could only be made by a Japanese person. The subtleties, such as the amount of color, probably include the cultural sensitivities of those who have lived in Japan for many years.
Rather than working alone, working as a team. Creating expressions while being inspired.
Yakushinji: In recent years, you have also taken on roles such as producing and choreographing, encouraging the younger generation. Do you feel that this is a kind of shift for you?
Takahashi: As for myself, I still want to be out in the public eye. On the other hand, the situation and environment in the skating world is changing year by year. With all kinds of entertainment increasing in our daily lives, I was wondering what we should do to survive, and I also felt that we can't continue like this. To achieve that, it's important that I enjoy it myself. Also, I always had a dream of creating something like a company. I wanted to create something similar to that, and that's how “Kassouya” started.
Yakushinji: What did you feel as you went on to perform in Fukuoka in February 2024 and Hiroshima in March 2025?
Takahashi: Actually, I'm not very good at doing things alone. I really like creating things with other people. By creating things together, I'm stimulated, and the more people there are, the more positive it feels. I also get hints about what kind of things they want to see and what kind of things it would be good to have. In this process, when our sensibilities match, for example in choreography, I feel like we can create something interesting.
"It's sure to strike a chord with someone" when you're having fun
Yakushinji: What you said earlier, ‘It's important to enjoy yourself (to survive)’ really stuck with me. That's really true, isn't it? It may be similar to kimono making. The creator makes what he or she wants to wear.
Takahashi: That's right. It resonates with people, they're moved, they buy it, they wear it. I think that enjoyment is transmitted. Something that you yourself enjoy will appeal to someone else. I don't think there's anything that doesn't appeal to anyone at all.
Yakushinji: When I think about it, it gives me courage.
Takahashi: It is also interesting to have fun and to do further new research and so on. How far can I go? I also have expectations of how far I can go.
Yakushinji: By the way, I've been wondering about your gel nails since you came here today. The dull gold is very mature and looks a bit like a metal joint. They go well with yukata.
Takahashi: I've been into gel nails for a while now. They lift my spirits, and it's fun to think about what kind of design I should get. I always get them done by someone I met during a photo shoot.
Yakushinji: Beauty in general, including nails, is becoming popular regardless of gender. I once read an article in a beauty magazine in which Takahashi-san talked about choosing nail colours and designs that suit men's hands and bones, and it was very interesting. There aren't many examples of men's nails yet, so I felt that this would be a good reference for those who want to try it out.
You often appear in beauty and fashion related media, but what is the underlying thought behind it?
Takahashi: There are still many people who know about figure skating and ice dancing but don't have a foothold yet, so we need to spread the information. To get people to come to the show, I think it's important to be conscious of visiting various places and increasing the opportunities to catch their eye.
If they come to see the show at least once, they might think it is interesting! Then, maybe we can hope that even more people will come to see the show again.

The photos accompanying part 2 are no less stunning - the first part of an interview with Dai is also included:

Part 3 and thus the second part of the interview has been published 🤩:

The secret of beautiful gestures is to be the person you admire. Professional figure skater Daisuke Takahashi (Interview Part 2) 'Why don't you try on a kimono?' vol.10-3
2025.07.02
Interview
Professional figure skater Daisuke Takahashi wears a yukata, styled by Kaoru Yakushinji. We also asked him about how to make the smallest gestures more attractive and the secret to maintaining a beautiful posture.
Table of contents
  • Try something new. And enjoy it.
  • Does the kimono, which restricts movement, stimulate the brain?
  • The secret to beautiful movement is ‘image casting’.
  • If you want to watch figure skating or an ice show, please wear a kimono.
  • Performance information
Try new things. And enjoy it.
Yakushinji Kaoru (Yakushinji): Not only are you active on the skating rink, but you are also appearing in a film this summer.
Daisuke Takahashi (Takahashi): Yes, that's right. It's a film set in my hometown of Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, and it's called Kura no Aru Machi (The Tales of Kurashiki ).
Yakushinji: I get the impression that you have been taking on a lot of new challenges, especially in recent years.
Takahashi: Yes, I do. I don't do anything I don't want to do anymore, but you never know until you try everything. So I decide to give it a try anyway. As a result of trying things out, I've finally been able to sift out what I really like to do recently.
If you choose not to do something, there is no future for you, but there are many things you can find out if you like them or not by trying them. It is important for me to experience it every day, rather than just ending it in my imagination.
And if you decide to do it, you better enjoy it. I think that when you have a core that is too straight inside you, there are parts that you can't see, but if you change your perspective, you can change the way you look at everything, and you can enjoy it.
Yakushinji: The film ‘Kura no Aru Machi’ is set in Kurashiki, and the ice show ‘Hyoen 2025 - Kagamon no Yasha’ in which you and Takahisa Masuda play the lead roles is also inspired by the ‘Momotaro legend’ and ‘Ura legend’ of Okayama.
Takahashi: That's right. But both times it was by chance. I'd always wanted to be involved in the local area, and the opportunities presented themselves at just the right time. Actually, I'm not a very proactive/spontaneous person, but maybe I'm attracting it (lol)?
Does the kimono, which restricts movement, stimulate the brain?
Yakushinji: Actually, today I would like to ask you, Mr Takahashi, who is a "professional in physical exercise", to tell us something. ......
When walking in kimono and sandals or geta, the ideal way to walk is to land on the ground from the heel, catch the ground with the whole sole of the foot and kick the ground with the toes, but it is difficult because the centre of gravity tends to be tilted forward. Is there anything we can do to improve this?

Takahashi: I think that "big movements in Western clothes" and "small movements in a kimono" feel completely different to the body. And that's great for stimulating the brain.
Yakushinji: Wearing a kimono = restricted movement, which does not necessarily lead to bad effects. If both large and small movements have different functions, is it still important to stretch before and afterwards in order to move your body comfortably?
Takahashi: I think it is best to loosen up after you have stiffened up. But I think that ‘doing something different from the usual’ itself is a good stimulus. It feels good to be able to move around after taking off the kimono. I think this feeling is also important.
Yakushinji: Indeed, many people like being able to stretch out and feel a sense of freedom after wearing it.
Takahashi: On the other hand, tying the laces can make you feel more focused.
The secret to beautiful movement is image casting.
Yakushinji: While shooting today, I felt that Takahashi-san's sudden gestures are very beautiful after all. Do you usually pay attention to them?
Takahashi: I pay attention to them. Or rather, I look at people with beautiful movements. Regardless of gender.
Yakushinji: I see! When I was watching Takahashi-san's performance on screen, I also felt that his face line and neckline were particularly beautiful when he turned his head to the side.
When you wear a kimono, there are many parts that are covered, and the way your neck looks is a big point. If you have any advice on how to make them look beautiful, I would like to hear it.
Takahashi: I don't usually wear a kimono, so this is not specific advice, but I would say, for example, to have an image of a model or actress who you think looks beautiful in kimono descend on you.
Yakushinji: Descend! Do you mean that you become them, or do you imitate them?
Takahashi: It's called “image casting”, and it's also a dance term, but for example, even an ordinary walk becomes beautiful if you imagine someone you think is beautiful and walk like them. For example, when I think ‘I want to look more dignified today’, I imagine, for example, Hiroshi Abe.
Yakushinji: Excellent advice! Kimono lovers often have a role model who they like to see dressed in kimono, so I think it's easy to put this into practice.
Takahashi: I do this a lot too. The way they move, the way they walk, the way they talk. If you observe people's movements with this in mind, you can get a glimpse of this person, even just from the way they place a cup on a table, and realize that "this person probably takes good care of things.

If you want to watch figure skating or an ice show, please come in a kimono
Takahashi: I would be very happy if you came to an ice show in a kimono. I would like to ask people to co-ordinate their kimonos with the colours of their costumes, or to wear motifs related to the show. If there are more people in the audience dressed in kimono, I think all the performers, including myself, would be very happy.
Yakushinji: I like the idea of an ice show in kimonos! It would be fun to play with accessories such as obiage and obi-dome.
Takahashi: I can see the audience quite well from my skating perspective. For example, I think it would be interesting to encourage the audience to wear kimonos and yukatas, and to create a stage together with the performers.
Also, skating rinks are cool (laughs). I'm sure it will be just right for people who are concerned about the heat when they go out in kimonos and yukatas. Please come and see the show in a kimono!

It is notable, albeit not surprising, that there was a high number of Takahisa fans in the audience, most of which had never been to an ice show before, who wrote glowing reviews not only about Takahisa's but also Dai's performance and the show in general on social media. And Takahisa and Dai, embodying two sides of the same coin, did indeed not disappoint - Kibitsuhiko and Ura were complex characters that must have been difficult to portray, especially Ura, who is experiencing constant emotional turmoil/dealing with conflicting feelings and transforms into a "demon", losing everything in the end (I won't say more, because I don't want to spoil it for those, who haven't seen the show yet). It truly was an epic tale. On the downside it had the most depressing ending out of all Hyoen productions so far (which is saying a lot, considering that none of them - with the exception of the Hyoen spin-off LUXE - had a true happy end).

I wrote a few more impressions after the live broadcast in the Hyoen thread.

Like I said in the Hyoen thread, I am always impressed by the hard work and passion that is put into these productions during the long preparation and rehearsal process, just for the actual performances to be over so quickly (apparently director Yukihiko Tsutsumi also said during his speech after the final show that five performances weren't enough and he wished the show could have had a longer run). 😭

As in previous years there were several VIPs as well as friends in the audience (Tadahiro Nomura, Yuki Ota, Saori Yoshida, Yujin Kitagawa from YUZU, Natsumi Haruse (the voice of Inori in "Medalist"), Mao-chan, Yuma Suzuki, Takuro Ohno, Kazuki Namioka, Eliana, Marie, Hirokazu, Nobu, Kazuki, ...). Most importantly Dai-chan's family attended the last performance, according to several fans. They must be so proud! 🥰🥹

Dai-chan's family is here. (*˘︶˘*)

https://x.com/casablancaj22/status/1942109520471433645

His voice was hoarse and his cheeks were bald during the final greeting, it was truly amazing 👏👏👏Did you see the face of your father, the number one fan in the world, who supported Dai-chan last night in the second part of the show? [Dai during the final speech:] "I'm trying my best to change the tone of my voice between the first and second halves. I'll check it again on TV when I get home" 😭😭He also told us the origin of Ura.

Dai-chan, the role of Ura 👹
This year too, his stamina was amazing and he's so cool
Thanks to Dai-chan, who was always there for me when I was in trouble during rehearsals
Thank you so much 😭🙇🏻‍♀️
He's so cool 🫶🏻
Ensemble member, Ayumi Urabe, on instagram threads 🫶:

A memory from the rehearsal period.
When I was having trouble swinging my sword properly,
Dai-chan called out to me during a break,
"Ay-chan, come here with your sword,"
and helped me think up the movements for the scene where I cut down four people and become unrivaled in the sub-rink 🥹
"Do a backcross here twice, cut from below, turn around to look at your opponent, and start running and cutting!"
At that moment, I felt like I had finally got it.
That's exactly the magic of Dai-chan ✨🪄
I enjoyed that scene even more, and
most of all, I was really happy that he was watching me properly even though he was so busy...
He's the best leader and a really wonderful person. I respect him from the bottom of my heart!
I love Dai-chan!

Even after the show ended, I still had some feelings for Senshu, and the thought "I miss you" lingers in my heart.
Maybe because the characters were childhood friends, from the very beginning, he spoke to me in a friendly way, saying "Call me Dai-chan! My fortune-teller told me that you'll have better luck if you call me Dai-chan!"
It was because of Daisuke-san's Ura-sama that I was able to put my life on the line to play Senshu.
I deeply respect his charisma and popularity.
I can't thank him enough. Thank you so much!!

Gosh, how to keep up with Dai-chan? The man's prolificness and versatility is unbelievable! 🤯 While the buzz of Hyoen is still going strong and fans are eagerly awaiting Dai's nationwide silverscreen debut in August*, it was announced that he will be a guest dancer/actor in a stage play in conjunction with the "Nagoya Odori NEO", an annual traditional Japanese dance event, produced/staged by the Nishikawa school of Japanese dance. The performance is to take place in October at the Okaya Koki Nagoya Public Hall:

NEO Dance Drama "Genroku Onna Chushingura" This is a newly written dance drama that focuses on what happens after Chokarou Touka's rakugo story, with Touka acting as the narrator and advancing the story.
The "shy" prostitute Konatsu, also known as Okuma (Nishikawa Kazumasa), cannot forget the Ako Roshi, Oishi Kazura (Takahashi Daisuke), with whom she had a relationship, and is guided to the underworld by the fraudulent monk Tetsukannon (Nagahide). The underworld is a place before the judges who decide whether the dead will go to hell or heaven, and the dead repeat the life they were most attached to in life. While the Ako Roshi are still raiding, Kazura wakes up alone in another place and meets the child demon, Sabanii (voice: Kaji Yuki).
In the underworld, Umekawa (Honda Gobun) and Chubei (Kagetsu Kanade), who have committed double suicides, the husband (Nagoya Yamasaburo) who appears in rakugo, and demons also get caught up, but will Okuma be able to meet Kazura?
In this cycle of loyalty, love, and reincarnation, what remains?
Last year's "Nagoya Haikara Kagekidan" was a dance drama with musical flavors, based on the story of Nishikawa Koisaburo II, the founder of Nagoya Odori, and depicted the turbulent early Showa era in which three former kabuki actors are each caught up in the war.
This year's guest is...
Figure skater Daisuke Takahashi (role of Oishi Kazura)
Daisuke, who displays outstanding acting, dancing, singing and sword fighting every year in the artistic ice show "Hyoen," which fills Yokohama Arena to capacity, will appear in "Nagoya Odori." He will play the role of Oishi Kazura, partner of head of the Nishikawa School. Moving from the ice to the stage, he will try his hand at Japanese dance in addition to acting.

The play is produced/directed by Kazumasa Nishikawa (the 4th head of the Nishikawa School and a classical Japanese dancer, producer, composer, choreographer, and director), who will also play the lead, and this year's Hyoen director, Yukihiko Tsutsumi, is listed as a supporter. Kazumasa Nishikawa also knows long-time Hyoen collaborator/choreographer/director Kikunojo Onoe, so he and Yukihiko Tsutsumi were likely involved in how the connection came about. Kazumasa Nishikawa watched this year's Hyoen production:

Directed by Tsutsumi Yukihiko!
I went to see Daisuke Takahashi's Hyoen 2025!
Amazing! A one-of-a-kind experience!
It's not just an ice show. This is a new form of dramatic entertainment!
Idei-moto Onoe Kikunojo, who directed the previous production, also participated as a choreographer.

Synopsis.
Aoi, Beniko, and Kiichi are high school students from their hometown of Kurashiki who have been friends since elementary school.

Other cast: Kazuki Horike (Kyosuke), Kento Sakurai (Koichi), Tomoya Maeno, Kanako Mizumoto, MEGUMI, Shozo Hayashiya, Isao Hashizume, Daisuke Takahashi (first film appearance)
Director/Screenplay: Emiko Hiramatsu ( Director/Screenplay: Emiko Hiramatsu (from Kurashiki City)
Music: Takatsugu Muramatsu
Theme Song: ‘Kazi ni Tsutsumeme’ by Aoi Teshima
Production and background
The ‘Surprise Fireworks’ project, which took place in more than 300 cities across Japan in the wake of the Corona pandemic, was the starting point. The inspiration for the story came from the fireworks that were actually used in Kurashiki. Through the production of a pilot version and the release of a YouTube video, support was gathered from the local community, businesses and Kurashiki City, and the film was shot entirely on location in Kurashiki. Full-scale filming took place in the summer of 2024 and a preview of the completed film was held in March 2025.
Highlights.
The white-walled warehouses and streets of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter are faithfully recreated on screen, and the cooperation and warmth of the local residents are portrayed in a realistic manner.
Daisuke Takahashi makes his acting debut in the role of a curator.
The drama of the high school students' earnest dreams and the hope and solidarity involving the local community is heart-warming.
Soundtrack/music
Music by composer Takatsugu Muramatsu. He has previously demonstrated his talent in films such as Marnie: The Last Time I Saw You (Memories of Marnie), for which he also wrote and arranged the music. The theme song is ‘Kaze ni Tsutsumeme’ sung by Aoi Teshima. The song was originally written for a commercial, but was chosen as it overlaps with the script and the emotions of the characters and is appropriate for the theme of the film. The song ‘Tsutsumete Kaze ni Tsutsumete’ sung by Aoi Teshima is the original music for the Takasago Thermal Science commercial featuring Rikako Yagi.
About the filming location
Filming took place in Kurashiki, mainly in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter and around JR Kurashiki Station. Various locations in the city appear in the film, including the Kurashiki Adult Disease Centre, Tamashima and Sami Beach. Many local staff and extras participated, and the warmth of the local community is expressed throughout the film. The Kurashiki Adult Disease Centre filmed some scenes in the hospital, and staff also appeared as extras. The natural scenery of the Sami Coast (Tamashima area) was also featured in the previews and in the city newsletter, bringing the unknown scenery of Kurashiki to life in the film.
Completion preview held at MOVIX Kurashiki [3 Mar].

Kazumasa Nishikawa watched this year's Hyoen production:

There was a press conference on July 13, which Dai did not participate in (he and assistant director Yukihiko Tsutsumi were there in the form of photo portraits 😄):

Nishikawa School Announces Outline of “Nagoya Odori NEO” Special Appearances by Daisuke Takahashi and others / Traditional Culture & Performing Arts at the Okaya Koki Nagoya Public Hall
The Nishikawa School of Japanese Dance announces outline of “The 78th Nagoya Odori NEO”. On July 13, Kazumasa Nishikawa, the fourth head of the Nishikawa School, and rakugo storyteller Momoka Chokarou, who will appear as a guest performer, visited Atsuta Jingu Shrine. They held a press conference at the Atsuta Jingu Hall and expressed their enthusiasm for the stage.
Since the end of the war in 1945, the Nishikawa School has continued to perform Nagoya Odori at various venues in the center of Nagoya, including the Nagoya Takarazuka Theater, the Chunichi Theater, and the Gionza Theater, etc. From 2022, the “NEO” style will be more entertainment-oriented and the “CLASSIC” style more classical. In addition to the stage performances, the NEO will be held in the entire Nagoya City Public Hall, with the lobby and outdoor space also being used for traditional performing arts projects.
This year's event, the 78th, will be held in the entire Nagoya City Public Hall, both inside and outside, with performances in the Grand Theater on the 1st floor, and events and booths selling the attractions of the Chubu region in the 2nd and 4th floor halls.
The Grand Theater will be divided into two parts. The first part consists of three performances. In the first part, the next generation of Nishikawa School members will entertain the audience in the theater, dance on the outdoor stage, and open the main performance on stage in the “Hana-mai (flower dance)” performance. In “Act II: Geiko Competition Stage Jobanjin,” geiko from Nagoya, Anjo, Gifu, Kanazawa, and other cities will compete in a performance. In “San no Mak: Rakugo Choka-Ro Momoka,” special guest Momoka will perform her original rakugo story “Genroku Onna Taiyouden” set in the Chushingura period (the reign of Chushingura).
The second part, “NEO Buyo Gekijo ‘Genroku Onna Chushingura,’” is a dance drama directed by and starring Kazumasa Nishikawa and performed by Nishikawa-style dancers as well as actors and dancers from Nagoya. It is a story about the aftermath of “Genroku Onna Taiyouden” and was written by Kazumasa Nishikawa. Momoka will act as the narrator of the story, while Kazumasa Nishikawa will play the role of Koharu, a prostitute who is on her way to the underworld, unable to forget the Ako Roshi.
Figure skater Daisuke Takahashi will make a special appearance as Chikara Ōishi, the Ako Roshi with whom Koharu falls in love. He will perform the role on stage without wearing skates and will also perform Japanese dance. Voice actor Yuki Kaji will provide the voice of Shabaani, the mysterious little demon that Kazura meets in the underworld.
The cast also includes Kanade Kagetsu, a member of the “OSK Nippon Opera Company” and a native of Nagoya, Takefumi Honda of “BOYS AND MEN,” Saburo Nagoyayama of the popular theater “Nagoya-za,” Masao Teshima of the action group “RE-act,” and others with ties to Nagoya. Film director Yukihiko Tsutsumi will provide directing assistance.
Kazumasa Nishikawa said, "Nagoya Odori NEO" is to reconstruct a traditional performing art with a long history in an entertaining neo style, and after three years of performance starting in 2022, we are calling for a fourth year of renewal in order to be able to call it neo. This year's dance drama is a story set in the underworld, the world after death. Dead people are repeating what they were most obsessed with during their lives, and the Ako Ronin are still continuing their revenge. The play depicts what remains in the cycle of loyalty, love, and reincarnation. We are also working on ideas for stage design and visuals to express the underworld," he said.
As for special guests, he said, "I went to see Mr. Takahashi's play the other day, and he does acting, dancing, and singing. For this stage, we are planning to have him try his hand at Japanese dance as well. Mr. Kaji is a wonderful actor with a voice of seven different colors. I hope that he will play a role in which he can express a variety of voices.
Momoka said, "Genroku Onna Taiyouden is a story about Chushingura in which a woman is the leading role, and it is a successor to a new rakugo story performed by (Harufutei) Koasa, my master. I was extremely happy when I heard that they were going to make a dance drama about the latter part of the story.
Performances in the main hall will begin at 11:00 and 17:00 on both days. Admission is 11,000 yen for SS seats, 8,800 yen for S seats, and 5,500 yen for A seats.

In other news (because he is never giving us a break, is he?), Daisuke was inducted into the "Japan Instructors Association (JIA)" (while Takeshi Honda was elected/named the new chairman of the board of directors) in early June (will we see Dai as a coach in a couple of years?)

Takeshi Honda is the new chairman of the board of directors and Daisuke Takahashi is a new member of the Japan Instructors Association
The Japan Figure Skating Instructors Association held a general meeting in Yokohama City until the 2nd, and elected Takeshi Honda (44), who placed 4th in the men's event at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, as the successor to Chairman Minoru Sano. Former world champion Daisuke Takahashi (39) became a new member. The association was established in 1964 with the aim of improving the quality of instructors.

From Miwa Nishida's instagram (it's lovely to see Nagamitsu-sensei with Dai-chan again ):

I was honored to have my photo taken with new member Daisuke Takahashi, Utako Nagamitsu and my mentor Miwa Fukuhara.

And here's a Deep Edge Plus article about another preview screening that took place in Tokyo on the 16th (I'm starting to lose track of all of the advance/preview/completion announcement screenings 😅) and the forthcoming official nationwide movie release. (I'm amused that the headline points out that Daisuke has a "rare" appearance in glasses 😂):

Machine translation:

Daisuke Takahashi's first appearance in a film is highly acclaimed, saying ‘I can't believe it's his first time.’ Preliminary screening of “The Tales of Kurashiki”, set in his hometown Kurashiki, with a rare appearance in glasses.
A preview screening of "The Tales of Kurashiki," the first film appearance by former world figure skating champion Daisuke Takahashi (39), was held in Tokyo on the 16th. The 103-minute film is set in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, and was directed and written by Emiko Hiramatsu, with Takahashi playing the role of museum curator Kojo Rokuro and MEGUMI playing the mother of a high school girl, all from the city. Mr Takahashi gave an imposing performance, and a representative from the distribution company commented: 'I can't believe it's his first time. His calm voice is also wonderful".
Set in Kurashiki City's Bikan Historical Quarter, the film tells the story of three high school students who have known each other since childhood and struggle to fulfil their promise to shoot fireworks from a small mountain. Mr Takahashi plays an important role in supporting them with his warm eyes, and there are rare scenes where he wears glasses. He was offered the role by Hiramatsu, who worked as Yoji Yamada's assistant director for many years.
On the day, Ms Hiramatsu gave a stage greeting and explained that the film was made with three points in mind: 1) the Noto Peninsula earthquake, 2) the COVID-19 pandemic, and 3) children.

"The film was shot in 2024, but there was an earthquake in Noto on New Year's Day that year, and one point is that the appearance of any city will never be eternal, and it would be worthwhile to keep it on film as a story."
"We had the COVID-19 pandemic. There were a lot of hardships, but one good thing about it was the surprise fireworks. They were a way of expressing gratitude to essential workers. We should never forget that these fireworks were set off with consideration for others, and that there was compassion there."
"The third is that the world must be a place where children can dream. For this to happen, the adults around them, rather than the children themselves, must be responsible. We made the film after discussing these three points."
The film will be released in advance at MOVIX Kurashiki on the 25th of this month, and Takahashi is also scheduled to attend a riverboat parade on the Kurashiki River, which flows through the heart of Kurashiki's Bikan Historical Quarter, as well as an opening day stage greeting.
The film will be released nationwide on August 22nd. A premiere screening will be held at Shinjuku Piccadilly on July 29th, with Takahashi Daisuke and other cast members taking to the stage.
