And the American dance juggernaut wins another JGP. The less known Russian team took second. And Mysliveckova & Novak didn't fall in the FD, but their last lift took an extended lift penalty. Without the penalty, they would be in 2nd.. And the Canadian take 3rd.

Wow was it close overall for 2nd through 4th.

I must repeat my rhetorical question from the Lake Placid Ice Dancing Champs thread. Are Gilles / Donohue a new dream team? Remember they are skating only 14 weeks together.

Looking at the ice dance results for the last 4 events, I wonder it there are any teams out there that can win the gold over the americans :agree:

G/D are facing the Hubbells in South Africa!
IMO the only JGP USA might not win is Belarus (USA's team is Sara BAILEY / Kyle HERRING and Isabella CANNUSCIO / Ian LORELLO) But I think both tems are promising and could surprise us ;)

IMO, the USFS should switch the assignments around a bit and send Gilles/Donahue to Belarus, and move Cannuscio/Lorello to RSA to skate with the Hubbells. Otherwise, they will have two gold-medal US teams duking it out either at RSA or GBR, and that would be a waste!

ITA, but are theses assignments provisional?

So far we have:

Madrid: Maia SHIBUTANI / Alex SHIBUTANI
Rachel TIBBETTS / Collin BRUBAKER

Gomel: Sara BAILEY / Kyle HERRING
Isabella CANNUSCIO / Ian LORELLO

Cape Town: Piper GILLES / Zachary DONAHUE
Madison HUBBELL / Keiffer HUBBELL

Sheffield: Madison CHOCK / Greg ZUERLEIN
and either Elyse MATSUMOTO / Patrick MAYS or Shannon WINGLE / Timothy McKERNAN

The Capetown and Sheffield assignments are provisional.

The USFS doesn't usually shuffle assignments, but in this case I think they should consider it if at all possible. The Russians do it all the time.

I think Gilles / Donahue got that one because Alexe Gilles is most likely going there two and USFSA probably wants the sister to be able to go together. Which I think it totally cool

Matej Novak was a hero yesterday. He saved the third lift (which was counted at least). In the moment when he lifted Lucie his balance went too forward. Normally he is doing this lift in standing position on one foot, but now he was already bending forwards so everybody thought that he would put Lucka back on the ice and this lift would be counted level 1 with minus points from judges. But Matej had another idea. In moment when he bent forwards he lifted his right foot and made this lift in spiral position (not in standing position as he is normally doing) while Lucka kept her blade near to her head and turned down (this position was planned). Simply he saved the lift, it was great job from him. It was appreciated a lot. I wished them medal, it was much more better performance than in Courchevel.

Piper and Zach were great. I am surprised they are together just 14 weeks.

I  Luca and Matej's skating. I had so hoped they would medal. However, a good performance and saving the lift should really set them up for junior worlds!

Thanks so much, sisinka, for telling us about their performance.:rock:

I think Tibbetts/Brubaker are scheduled to get SHeffield -based on how Madrid goes.

Do you think so? IIRC Elyse MATSUMOTO / Patrick MAYS haven't got a JGP and they are listed as alternates.

Yes, but if Rachel and Colin place well, they will give them the second one. I don't think they could give one to an alternate if Rachel and Colin place in the top 5. That's just my opinion. :)

I think Rachel and Collin have a VERY good chance to place in the top 5 and if they do, expect to see them in Sheffield.
