Dance SD - 2013 Trophee Eric Bompard

The technical specialist makes the calls. The technical control provides oversight, communicates with the referee, etc. The assistant technical specialist helps out. In the case of a disagreement there is a vote among the three.

Tessa and Scott winning this competition is not my worry- they are going to win 99.99%
My worry are the scores they are going to receive- they need to grow their scores to in order to try and close the gap and be competitive with Meryl and Charlie.

The tech specialist determines the levels for all elements and when the race for ice dance Gold is between and American and Canadian team, and the tech specialist is an American, bias (which is uncontrollable and part of our human nature) is going to play a role and visa versa (if there was a canadian on the panel)

I'm a D/W fan but I consider V/M a very strong competitor, and they get stronger as the season unfolds. GP scores don't matter, it's the performances by both teams at Sochi that count in the end. So why sweat the small stuff?

I hope Papadakis/Cizeron skate to their full potential and show Gailhaguet that they are the best choice for the second Olympic spot.

They are the most exciting Ice Dance team I have seen for a long time.

Monko/Khaliavin - Former Junior World Champions. I thought they were very promising. Unfortunately, under Zhulin's tutelage they seem to be going nowhere. Pretty generic choreography. A jarring, sudden music change in the program. The middle part had very different character to the first and third and they didn't seem to go well together at all.

I don't think this is Zhulin's fault. They switched from Kustarova and they look hopeless then too. She is too tall for him.

Orford/Williams had a cute ballroom program. A bit sickly sweet but it had nice character, quite a lot of closed holds and was well presented. Could have used more highlights I guess. Technical elements weren't very impressive though.

Yes :/ There is a little less than 3 inches difference in their heights and it's not enough, even in dance. Sinitsina and Zhiganshin have 4.5 inches between them and I think this sometimes causes them problems too.

However, don't forget that pangtongfan has predicted that M/K will get Russia's third spot for the Olys, and that he is always right in his predictions since joining the boards!

Papadakis/Cizeron - Good performance skills, some nice detail in the choreography, but some of the elements a little insecure. They have the 'it factor' though. Really explosive presentation. I hope they can improve technically with time.

I hope not. Riazanova/Tkachenko aren't exactly looking great this season but even they are much better than the mediocrity M/K present at the moment.

Agree. I'm particularly taken with him--he's got great style out there. He seems the slightly stronger dancer right now. I don't think it will take long for this team to become France's #1 and skip right past Carron/Jones....if Papa Didier doesn't mess things up first.

I don't care for the British couple's music. It expecially doesn't work for me during the finnstep sequences.

Yeah my post was kind of a joke since pangtongfan insists his predictions are always right (there is a gem of a post in an Evan L thread about this). (Un)fortunately now I don't remember where I read his prediction about M/K (though I'm sure it was today that I read it) and now I can't find it so maybe I am mistaken. I also much prefer R/T and I also prefer S/Z despite their major errors last week.

Coomes/Buckland - The program was a little sluggish and empty at the start and the finnstep lacked sharpness, lightness and character but it really picked up in the second half with some interesting highlights and much more expression.

Slow twizzles and a messy finnstep though.

I personally loved their music. It was different and more sophisticated than what you usually see in competition.

For the record, I believe PTF is a "she."

I think it will be a bloodbath for No. 3 spot.

I think he's got more of the 'it factor' than her, but they've got loads of potential. There's something him that reminds me of Ray Bolger of all people--that kind of lanky, elastic grace.

The Brits--someone please put irreversible scratches into the cd of their music so we don't have to listen to it again. Love the lift and the ending though.
