I wasn't surprised. :) I think he has a decent chance to get a second one if there are some withdrawals, too.

Deniss: I'm going home tomorrow after an inspiring trip to Switzerland! Stéphane Lambiel and I went to visit the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and we found a familiar piece of skating history! I hope one of my costumes will be next to it one day! But the main thing for now: I have a new short program!

Stephane almost looks like he could be his big brother! :luv17:

Worrying news from Deniss himself. :( He is currently in Toronto, being treated for a muscle tear in his adductor which had been nagging him for several months. At the moment off ice conditioning only, he won't be able to jump for the next few weeks at least. Let's hope for his speedy, complete recovery!

Oh no, I hope he will make a good recovery in time for his GP. I want him to make a good impression on judges, fingers crossed for him.

Eta: Did he go to Toronto specifically for the treatment? It's a long long way from Sochi and big expense, are Toronto specialist so much better than anywhere else?

Oh, what a pity, but "a few weeks" is better to hear than "a few months," or longer. And if he had to get injured, better that it happened now than in the middle of season.

I really doubt he went to Toronto just for medical treatment...there are surely closer and cheaper options to home. Maybe he was getting some extra training there.

This is worrisome, but, if that about a few weeks is true, it could be much worse. I hope he really can recover completely until the GP.

It's sad but I agree that better now than later. And fortunately he's not junior anymore so he has a little more time. Wish Deniss speedy recovery!

That's a good point, Cathlen. I remember seeing him wearing a wrap on his thigh during the rehearsal of Ice Legend and was a little concerned about it. I hope he won't rush it and make sure it will be properly healed before gearing up for the next season. still more than 3 months to go before the Rostelecom assignment, I must stay positive!!!!

Deniss is at Stephane Lambiel's camp now :)

Deniss Vasiljevs resumes skating in Champéry

Among the participants, and already a traditional guest of Skating School of Switzerland, is Latvia’s Deniss Vasiljevs. Turning 17 during the camp in Champéry (on August 9th), Deniss is currently in a rehabilitation process after discovering a tear in his left adductor muscle – he spent some time in Toronto, at the end of July, getting physiotherapy treatments and training off-ice. As Anne-Sophie Thilo from Skating School of Switzerland points out, „he will start skating again during the Summer Camp, with a soft training and no jumps”. Through his facebook page, Deniss let his fans know he’s attempting a full recovery before anything: „Unfortunately, I cannot jump for the next few weeks, so I will be late on my preparations for the upcoming season. The most important thing for me is to get completely healthy again and ready for my next challenge”.

As a reminder, during 2015-2016 season, this young talent from Latvia won two medals at 2016 Youth Olympics in Lillehammer (silver in the men’s event and bronze in the team event), two silver medals on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, in Riga and Toruń, and, in his first season in Seniors, he placed 12th at the Europeans and 14th at Worlds. In late April, he was one of Ice Legends’ guests, only to come back to Switzerland on more than one occasion, to have both his short and free programs for next season choreographed by Stéphane Lambiel.

That is a great news to hear. From what I've read from here, I thought he plans to keep his SP for three seasons in a row, but he will have two new programs by Lambiel. I guess the financial issue is solved for the new season?

I am more than thrilled and happy to see him back in Champery with Stèphane, and wonderful to see him upbeat in the photos from the therapy lab. He had such a radical growth spurt in the past year, it is better to be careful and take it slow in this period when the bone density can be an issue after such a period. He is in good hands, and I hope he will soak in all he can from the master of artistry in Switzerland!!!

Yes, great news. Also, as I remember, Denis's financial situation is indeed solved - he managed to gather enough money on the campaign for now, but Stephane likes his skating so much that he offered to choreograph his SP for free after working with him on the FS.
