Their interactions really are cute. After LP Stephane and Deniss talked to Deniss` mom and Stephane hugged her for quite a while. I believe she dropped some tears. Stephane took very seriously taking photos of Deniss and it looked like he has a very friendly relationship with Latvian skater Angelina Kuchvalska - maybe there could be Stephane choreographed program for Angelina in the future - who knows. Deniss is all smiles and he clapped REALLY loudly for other skaters and officials in the ceremony - like seriously - my ears were hurting when he stood next to me and clapped.

Great photos, and it's wonderful to hear that he is such a big supporter of all the other skaters (apart from hurting your ears, that is!). I would love to see Stephane work with Angelina, too! She deserves to get some good choreography.

Thank you for the lovely photos and your report! Great that you got to attend nationals. I don't know much about latvian skaters other than Deniss and Angelina. How was the overall level of the competition?

I believe it will be LesMis. I just couldn`t find any other possible Marius. i`m very impatient to see the new program, but I can`t imagine which song if it`s LesMis.

Hopefully a more upbeat one like "Do you hear the people sing" to go with the joyful mood of XoI. It's always such a feel-good show, that sth. like "Empty chairs" really wouldn't fit in imo.

We got two more lovely cast pictures:

He skated to "Bring Him Home." You can see a bit of him practicing it in this recent news clip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4QPW4nkfok

I don't really care for this song, but the choreo looks gorgeous and he got a standing ovation, at least at the first show. :) I really hope they'll broadcast his full performance.

Seems like every time I see Deniss being interviewed, he is speaking a different language! He is quite the linguist!

I just need to say, I don't understand a word, but Deniss is so animated and so adorable, you can see where his performance chops come from:)

And "Bring Him Home" could be great: look how well it worked for Grant Hochstein at 2016 Worlds! Looking forward to it....

Group number, including Joubert and Oda :luv17: I still can't believe our Deniss is skating together with Brian who got me addicted to figure skating and is still my favourite skater of all time :)

And hello, everyone. I am Krista, and I'm from Latvia ;)

Welcome Krista! Post long and post often! :) Thanks for the clips. Deniss looks right at home with all of those legends of skating!

Deniss seems to really have the gift of showmanship, and yet what he does looks very natural. He is so talented! :)

Welcome Krista and thank you for posting the link! This is such a typical, charming XOI number - I love it! The guys made that almost-fall look like it was choreographed.

Deniss won me over when I saw him this year at Ice Legends, which starred so many legendary skaters as well (from the XOI cast Brian, Daisuke, Ilia and obviously Steph were among them too). I think what stands out about Deniss is how he's holding his own among all of them. Although he was part of the up-and-coming "coup de coeur" back then, he was shining just as much as the veteran stars!

It was also there, where he asked Daisuke, if there was a possibilty to appear in his Christmas show and as we can see it worked out! I sense that both Stéphane (this one's obvious) and Daisuke will invite him back to their shows, because he's always such a wonderful addition with his innate charisma. :)

Lato Deni-kun is coming home with two new suitcases full of presents! And it took four people to pack them. #XOI

Apparently "Lato" is short for Latvian.

What a welcome! ありがとうございました! This was an incredible experience that I will never forget. I hope to come back to Japan very, very soon! #XOI

Thank you for the welcome, everyone :)
Any news if Deniss' and Brian's programs were broadcasted on TV?

Thanks for the link to this video. Un es arī esmu no Latvijas (mani sauc Laura, kā tu, iespējams, saprati no mana lietotājvārda). Translation just to be polite to other members: And I am from Latvia too (my name is Laura, as you probably understood from my username).

I like Joubert too, but my all time favorite skater who really got me into skating (although I was watching before) is Lambiel, so it seems that what we really have in common is probably or love for Deniss's skating.

Thank you for the welcome, everyone :)

No, unfortunately, no videos of Deniss's and Brian's programs have appeared so far.

Yeah, I keep checking YT and nothing :( Oh well :(
Te tik forši, ka daudz latviešu :D (It's so cool to have so many Latvians here). I was also watching before. Strangely from my childhood I always remembered Philippe Candeloro (I know, I have a thing for French skaters :D) and Stephane, but not Brian. Brian came later and got me hooked.
And now it's amazing to be able to cheer for our own skaters on the international stage!
I remember me and my friends (albalonga here on the forum) when Deniss was about 11 or 12, we were talking how amazing it would be if Stephane or Brian became his coaches. And then last summer to actually read that Steph became his choreographer and later his coach...I tell you, the feeling is unreal, even now when I have seen them both live together and even got a pic with them both, still feels like a dream :D

Your enthusiasm for Deniss is so sweet and is just leaping off the page! So cool! I was able to see him last year at Worlds in Boston. My friend and I had decided even before he skated his short program that we needed to cheer extra loudly for him, just in case there weren't a lot of Latvian people there in the audience cheering for him. And we did really cheer for him, as did many other people. He was definitely a crowd favorite and came out and skated so well, considering his age and the fact that (I'm pretty sure?) it was his first Worlds.

I will be watching his progress and am also so happy that he is working with Stephane. What a great partnership! I love when he came off the ice at his GP assignment and said, "I did it! No, WE did it" then Steph said, "No YOU did it!" :laugh2: Ok, no fighting! You did it together. They are so cute together!

Unfortunately Deniss' program hasn't been shown on japanese TV so far. :( I'm not sure about Brian. There will be a longer broadcast on a different station on the 22nd, so let's keep our fingers crossed, that their performances are included.

In the meantime here are links to the full opening and closing numbers with a few glimpses of Brian and Deniss.

I sometimes used to watch figure skating when I was a child, but I watched mostly for the pretty dresses (), and did not remember a lot of names. I remember watching when Oksana Baiul won the Olympics, though. Then I did not really watch figure skating for five or more years until 2005, as we simply did not have TV at home. It's funny how, when I watched the 2005 Euros and Worlds, I actually liked Brian a bit more than Stephane. I don't know why is that. I only became a huge fan of Stephane after seeing his Flamenco/'Poeta' FS at 2008 Euros (I think I did not see it at 2007 Worlds for some reason). And I became a real fan of competitive skating just with Vancouver Olympics (although at that competition I was mostly just so nervous for Stephane, and then so sad after how he performed - but I managed to enjoy the ice dancing competition and also ladies quite a lot after that).

And now it's amazing to be able to cheer for our own skaters on the international stage!

I agree with you that it's so amazing to be able to cheer for our skaters now. Even just five or so years ago I did not even dream that we will have such skaters one day. When Deniss was 11/12 I was not following juniors a lot yet, so I did not know how good he was, and, especially, how good he was going to be. As for Stephane coaching Deniss, I actually wrote on their Facebook Q&A after they announced the beginning of their partnership that it was like a dream for me - my all time favorite skater coaching a young talent from my country and one of my current favorite skaters! Even Deniss skating in Stephane's show and having programs choreographed by him was a lot, I was not even really hoping for something more. So that was an incredibly great surprise.
