Deniss Vasiljevs

Love Deniss so much and I'm so grateful for Stephane to be at his side for this final (?) Olympics. Every chance to see him skate is precious. I'm sending love & support from the other side of the world!

(I put in the question mark because I'll always hold out hope for him to come back in pairs or ice dance.)

Me, too, and I hope he continues to compete for as long as he's happy to, including in singles. However, in my auto-translate of the video, he was talking about how to say goodbye - hoping this doesn't mean he wants to retire, but rather is a clumsy translation of Latvian into English.

I checked the auto-translation. The "goodbye" was an absolute glitch. He actually said "I want to skate" but it was translated "I want to say" and then "goodbye" was added out of nowhere. I'm guessing it was AI getting creative

Otherwise, the translation was fine; except it tends to replace "colder" with "higher" since Latvian words "augsts" - "high" and "auksts" - "cold" sound the same.

Thanks for checking the translation, @Anna K. I'm really glad that the goodbye came from AI and not Deniss.

I liked his reference to the Milan World Champs (I was there - he was amazing) where he placed 6 - hope his memories of that event give him confidence and positivity for this one.

Deniss Vasiljevs in Milan: after the short program (Latvian TV interview)

Auto-translation warning: the AI clearly has a problem with how Deniss pronounces "skating": it keeps translating "to skate" as "to fly" in the beginning, which is kind of poetic... until it translates "skating" as "beating" in the very end. Oh, and it translates "skaters" as "deserters" at one point.

Deniss Vasiljevs in Milan: after the free skate (the competition was still running when Latvian TV posted this interview)

Auto-translation notes: the sentence "I am not a sports person" was translated totally wrong - it should be "as a person with or without sports, I am". At the very end, when you see the words "cameras" and "swimming", skip them; these were inserted by AI with no reason at all.
There are also other translation flaws - actually, a lot of them given that Deniss is still emotional after his skate and speaks a bit chaotic - but they do not radically change the meaning of his words. Or, that's what I thought. Feel free to ask me if you need clarification!

Is the video geoblocked or really unavailable?
When I refresh I can see briefly a picture.
