Deniss Vasiljevs

I'm so happy for him...this should be a real confidence booster! Sure, it's just a senior B, but his first senior international gold medal is a pretty big deal! Bravo Deniss and Stephane! :luv17:

Yay! I'm so happy for him to skate this program so well and to win convincingly!:hap93:

Do you think he'll switch anything up before world's? I was wondering if we'd see a quad attempt or triple axel in the second half here (but he's also proving he can be, if not in the top-top group, a real contender, with the difficulty he has now).

Congratulations to Deniss! Great tune-up before Worlds. He just keeps getting better and better.

Honestly, I don't think he should. At the moment, the quad is too new and from the one attempt I saw, I'd say it's too big of a risk. He is going to get hit on the PCS anyway because of his lower tech considering the bad state of the judging, so going fully clean like this is his best option. Eek out the max GOEs and PCS that he can, then cross fingers. He's just building his reputation and a clean Worlds performance(s) is the way to go.

This is my best guess! Swapping one of the solo jumps in the second half with the solo 3A or the Axel-combo sounds like a good strategy for Worlds. And then he can work on his quads without pressure during the off-season. :)

Even the Spinmaster himself is impressed by Deniss

Maybe he will try that at the Cup of Tyrol?
That clip is all kinds of awesome -- the speed, position, and Stephane's reaction! :luv17:

I stumbled across this video, Stephane & Daisuke dancing with Deniss in the background ^_^

That stuff is brilliant, isn't it? :dance2:  I attended the AOI-show that evening and met Dai a few hours before this happened. I will be forever sad that the aftershow ticket-prices are too expensive for me to afford. Would've loved to witness this in person!

There's more of it on youtube btw., including one of Deniss' "solo". ;) Don't wanna give direct links to the videos, because they're unlisted. The copyright-holder shared them here. Scroll down to "maple's" post.
Oh my goodness, all three of those videos from the after party are priceless! It's nice to see skaters letting loose and having fun together!!! :)

I got shivers, beautiful! May it be a good omen for the Worlds! This program really deserves to shine fully at the biggest stage.

Lambiel at the boards is a hoot
CONGRATS, DENISS!!! :hap85: I think this is the best skate of this FS yet, jump-wise and interpretation-wise. I could not take my eyes off the screen!!! It's obvious he's working hard. I hope he does well at Worlds, but regardless of his placement, it's another opportunity for us to watch his programs!!! :yay:

I was at the Cup of Tyrol, finally got to see the Dream Team up close. I am so honoured to witness his first gold medal performance right there in the arena. I even somehow managed to follow Deniss with one eye and Stephane with the other, the gorgeous coach was fantastic at the rinkside!
Here are the pictures I posted on facebook, enjoy (there are also others, notably Daniel Samohin, but Deniss and Stephane takes up the vast majority of the album!)

You're killin us MGStyle! So jealous! Those smaller competitions are so much fun! Thx for sharing. Just love how Deniss and Steph look so intense..

My pleasure! Actually most of the photos were taken by my partner, who had fun in his turn playing with his brand new camera, while I concentrated on fangirling. @arriba627 I defo agree, because there are almost no restrictions and you can pretty much do as you please (well probably except jumping on the skater and plant a kiss on him :p) there wasn't even a ticket to buy. So if I were to attend an event I tend to aim for something like this, prefering over a big competition. And yes, @fourthdimention, the stand was almost empty, which is not unusual in a B event in a non-mainstream skating country (i.e. Russia, North America, Japan...). Nontheless it was still rather difficult to approach Deniss and Stephane, Stephane was ever popular also in Innsbruck and perpetually surrounded by people who wanted to greet him!!! (he worked with the Youth Olympics a few years ago here, probably that was partially the reason). But I did manage to secure this :hap93:
The skating of Deniss is even more fantastic seen from near by!

I hadn't seen this posted yet. Here is a long interview in Japanese with Stephane and Sarah Meier (from Feb after Art on Ice). With my best google translation, Stephane is saying that Deniss' love of drawing is good for him and helps him becoming a creative skater.

My disciple, Dennis, is exactly right. He loves to draw pictures and is interested in Japanese culture so often paint Japanese gardens, but that is really beautiful. At first, it seems there was an image in my head, but I did not draw very hard. But while trying hard and trying a few times, he now gets even better, more and better, he is really, really, really creative..

Hope Deniss & Steph are here for today's practice. Missed seeing them yesterday. He should be on in about an hour if he's here.

ETA -- No-show today either. SP is Thursday. Seems like they would want to test the ice! Hope everything is ok.
