Deniss Vasiljevs

edit: You can watch Deniss's performance here ! (select channel 019 BS朝日 in the first column and 12:00 for the program in the column on the right, then play the video to watch the whole show or go to the minute 12:33 to watch Deniss)
I sadly had to leave the house before I could watch Deniss' performance, does anyone know if it's still possible to watch his number? Or maybe if somebody uploaded it online?

I'm sure it'll be available on YT or DM pretty soon, but meanwhile you can watch it in the link I provided I believe? (just make sure to select the correct options)

^ You also need to set it to 06/12 in the last column.

As for the program:  :drama:
It was amazing right up until he almost fell out of that spin but he did save it!
The music cut is a bit abrupt though. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time. It'll be exciting to see how it evolves through the season, it looked like he was moving just ahead of the music for a little while, but I'm sure they still have a lot of work to do. Is it meant to be his new SP or FS?

I managed to watch it! Thanks to everyone's help :D And yes Deniss' movements on ice were very smooth, it felt as if he was floating over the ice xD (and I think he said once in an interview that this is exactly what he admires about Stephane's skating :luv17:)

As for the cut, it does feel kind of abrupt... maybe the reason is that this is his FS and they just shortened the two parts to make it fit the length of an exhibition program?

That would make sense, I think I heard the commentator saying it was his FS but I wasn't sure.

Thanks, YuzuOnIce and FourSeasons! He looks so precious and I love the program! Yes, there needs to be a better segue between the music cuts but I'm sure they will have it worked out by the start of the season.

Judging by his IG Stories and Chris Trevisan's Twitter, he is having the time of his life right now!

He is literally running around taking pictures of everything...! 📸

I love the first section especially. He is so graceful and the steps are really creative! It's also fun to see some new spins!

He looked a little nervous, but I can't wait to see what this program grows into, when he is really comfortable in it and selling it!

This might be out of topic. After reading the interviews, I wondered how was Deniss' life before Stephane. We see that Stephane takes care of Deniss not only in skating but also in his daily life now for the reasons that was stated in the interview. During his Paris time, he lived with his coach so he should be looked after at that time too. But I don't think Deniss lived with Urmanov during his Sochi time (maybe he did but no one asked him about it?). His parents also didn't move with him (correct me on this if I'm wrong). So, how was his life at the age 15-16??? Did he even eat properly? :o
As fas as i know in Sochi he lived in some kind of a hostel for athletes, but certainly not with Mr. Urmanov. I don't think he was looked after much there. But he has always been very goal-minded and responsible child, therefore he followed his aims himself although it coudn't be very easy for a teenager.. His Mom has always been following him (today it is quite possible by Skype). That's the information I have got.

I'm not sure of the details of his living arrangements in Sochi but I get the feeling he wasn't as happy there as he is now. He said in interviews that training took up all of his time and he could not study or draw very much. I'm really glad he moved to live with Stephane because now his life is more balanced.
On another note, he finished the armour! http://vasiljevsdeniss.tumblr.com/post/161694613596/instagram-story-170611-denissvasiljevs

(I am never ever ever editing anything on mobile ever again >:( Second time today I deleted a post by accident :( )

Deniss was satisfied with Mr. Urmanov. He has never said anything negative about him, only positive as it was just Urmanov who taught him triples and started teaching quads. But there, evidently, were some financial problems. Besides Deniss told that he was asked to leave school (he was strictly against it). His visits home would be very limited (his family lives in Latvia).
And the injury. They couldn't cure him. So he left Sochi and went to Champery as Stephane had promised to do his choreography.
Actually, my point is that Russian Figure Skating Federation or Olympic Committee didn't want him to be trained in Russia as Deniss (if not injury) could master quads and become a real rival to Russian skaters. And Mr. Urmanov had to pay more attention to Julia Lipnicky as she was supposed to be the winner in women's part. Maybe I'm wrong but it coud be true.
But for Deniss it was the right decision. A clever guy!!

Beautiful, beautiful program! Smooth as butter - and love the look with the vest and the tie! He is just such a natural performer. I think I like the rather abrupt change of music. It reminds me of how versatile he is and how he can change moods quickly...I think Deniss can be grateful to Mr. Urmanov for his jump technique. And at this point, better to not look back at anything. Just keep looking forward towards a really bright future!

^^^Glad to hear Deniss' Japan trip is not all work, no play. You can tell he has great intellectual curiosity and will be a life-long learner. I'm so jealous, I want to go to Hiroshima too.

And is it just my imagination? I feel like every time I see Deniss his legs have gotten longer! :p

I don't know the context but I appreciate the fact that he drew flowers for her even though he usually draws castles and historic buildings. Such a little gentleman! :)
And I'm suprised by how well placed the shadows are, that's not something you do very well unless you've studied real models before or you're a good observer (his perfectionist side is showing again:points:)

Last night, I finished reading both parts of the latest article on Absolute Skating. What a FABULOUS interview!!!  I love how it was presented as a full conversation and not just a few quotes given to prove a point. The interviewer showed no agenda at all. The pie charts were a fun and creative way to start the conversation. So many wonderful things were said, but I’ll just mention two of them. I love how Stephane said that all of Deniss’s experiences off ice are helping his skating. Stephane wants Deniss to develop into a complete person and not only a successful figure skater!!! We knew this already, but I’m glad it’s not all about work with these two.

Another thing I found interesting was Deniss’s comments about social media. He doesn’t seem to like it in this interview but, on the other hand, he is posting a lot on it lately. He posts more stuff than Patrick Chan, that’s for sure. (I love both skaters regardless of how much they put on social media). But, do you think Deniss changed his mind about social media since Worlds? Or does he feel the same way and simply chooses to use it while not focusing too much on it? I applaud him for focusing on living life and appreciating what’s around him in nature and people.

As for the new program, I can't wait to see the completed version in competition!!! :hap10:

^^^I know some people who don't post much stuff on social media, except for when they travel. Maybe Deniss feels the same. He has had some interesting travels lately and seems to enjoy sharing them with us.
