Deniss Vasiljevs

^^^Love the Facebook clip Silverfoxes. Thanks for posting. Anxious to see how things go for Deniss at Euros. Best of luck Deniss - skate your heart out!

Yes, we couldn't have expected much more than what he delivered. :) He made it into the last group to skate, which is pretty nice! I loved the interview, by the way. Stephane is such a thoughtful coach, especially considering his career is so young, comparatively speaking.

And Icenetwork just added an interview with the man himself

I have to just put a couple quotes, but the whole interview is very charming, of course!

Icenetwork: What would be your dream program?
Vasiljevs: Let me do two quads in my short, a triple axel, and all Level 4 elements in a program that will raise the applause and enthusiasm of the audience. That's what I'm here to learn. I want to be the best. I'm a very easy person, as you can see. I want nothing but the best.

Icenetwork: You land a very pure triple axel and strong combinations. Are quads on the horizon?
Vasiljevs: They are in the process and I'm learning them. They are coming. Once they are stable, you'll see them at each competition. You know, when I like something, I feel so attached and addicted to it that I can't get rid of it. It's like Swiss cheese: I would eat some all day long, but my coach doesn't let me. He says I need to learn moderation.

Oh my goodness, this kid! :laugh2:

I was watching the competition with my friends and they asked me "Who that kid was?". They were mesmerised

I am not surprised because Deniss' performance was on the highest possible level. You can really see Lambiel's influence. Also he really REALLY improved since Grand Prix. Not to mention his wonderful personality. I love when skaters show they have fun and want to share it with fans :luv17:

It's incredible that a 17-year-old can skate with such sophistication and passion. And dare I say his 4 Seasons is at least on par with Stephane? He gave me chills! Imagine how good he will be in a few years! Pure genius!

Exactly! I think some of us, sometimes me, too, seem to forget that he's ONLY 17. I mean, just look at Javi, he reached the top step by step. This is not the ladies skating where they are at the peak while 16, 17, for guys you go for it slowly. AND Deniss had a trauma, a serious one. In summer he almost had to start anew. Imagine him after 2 or 3 years. Fingers crossed nothing major happens, he'll be up there with Javi and Yuzuru, and those guys are older. So, lots of potential. People have to learn patience :D Me, too. We all want quads. Deniss wants them and they are going after them and Steph knows what he's doing. All will come.
Being 7th at Euros at just 17 for a man skater, that's a HUGE success.
Congrats to Deniss and Steph!!! Wonderful, wonderful skating. I am in love with the FP. And live it's even more beautiful. So I cannot wait till Helsinki :D The wait will be verrrry hard now :D

does anyone know if he is training for quad? he is such a beautiful skater and i really wish he should get into the top mix

he had an injury some months ago, so I think he won't push it for now: however. he has said he plans to insert quads in his routines. After all, he learned his 3A quite late, but now is a fairly reliable jump for him (except for that pop today) and he grew up a lot since then.
I think that if we are patient we'll see his base value increase (I already consider his skating a big gift as it is).

^^^I love it -- the teacher in Stephane can't stop teaching. So cute! Deniss is in great hands!

CONGRATS DENISS!!! :yay: Both programs are much improved since the GPs. The FS especially seems to have more speed and smoother transitions between elements. Not to mention Denniss and Stephane are simply the most adorable coach and skater in the K&C! :luv17: It was quite enjoyable to watch both programs. For Deniss to do a clean SP and nearly clean FS at this Europeans is very admirable at this point in his career. Things are looking up for Deniss!

The awkward moment when at Ex gala Deniss is announced as 5th place men and NOBODY notices the mistake :D :D

A breath of fresh air! And such a delight to see Stephane back "on the scene" in the competitive realm. Lambiel's choreography for the Shibutani's exhibition piece is also gorgeous. You can see Deniss having fun last summer (cooking crepes!) in the Shibs social media accounts.
