Deniss Vasiljevs

I know its a bit silly but know the FS makes sense for me - maybe it helps someone else too.

I feel sometimes that there is like "one piece for you, one for me" in their student-coach relation. "OK, you like energetic music, I prefer something more gentle, so SP is for you and FP for me" (last season) and "SP is for me, let's share FP" (this season) ;)

Welcome, Maruse! I am another one who decided to join the forum because of Deniss :)

I recorded Deniss and Stephane's interview before the gala, you can watch it here they are such a great team :luv17: )

Also, did anyone notice that Deniss was wearing Stephane's outfit from "Water" during his gala?

Thank you, the interview was great, such a fun :hap85: And you are right, this is the same sweater. A little bit streched on Deniss torso

Deniss's EX!:love::love: Catch it while you can - I have a feeling it might get a copyright strike

Thanks a lot, my stream died during Deniss performance :frown: And second time when Caro was dancing... Probably too much beauty for poor electronics :luv17:

My friend suggested since Deniss skate to They live in you from the Lion King wearing Stephane's old costume, would it be more appropriate if he chose the zebra one?
Me: literally rolling on the floor:rofl2:

Right! I love the idea. The problem is the costume is on display in the Olympic Museum in Laussanne, isn't it?

After a while I imagined Deniss and Stephane breaking in the museum to steal the costume

Your friend is awesome.

My first thought was...oh great, all the people who complain that Deniss is a mini-me of Stephane will be living for this. But I know he probably doesn't have an endless budget for costumes and it looks good, so why not? Didn't Javi wear one of Brian's old costumes a few seasons ago?

Second thought was that I love the ex, even though it isn't something I would have imagined him skating to. He is just so versatile and musical, I guess he can skate to anything and I'll buy what he's selling. :)

I love this program! It really shows how versatile Deniss is. I loved him singing along. And one thing of Steph's that I'm happy Deniss copies is the complexity of his Ex choreography. The footwork is awesome!

Someone on twitter pointed out that the music choice is probably because the Villars on Ice show has a Lion King theme. I wonder if he'll have a costume by then?

I wasn't surprised of the costume choice or even gave it a think - maybe it is not very common among men, but girls like wearing borrowed cloths :-) And you are right, new EX costume is probably unnecessary expenditure (especially when there are plenty of Stephane's costumes at home) :agree2:
Last year he used his old SP and costume, while in Stockholm had a costume from Christmas on Ice - so, if he is going to perform this program in next ice show, probably gets new costume. Cant't wait to see it!

It's lovely to see he enjoys the music so much that he's singing along :luv17: (though I guess one can't really sing along to Four Seasons).

On that note, they need to make this happen! ;)

I definitely enjoyed his Ex programme. He always surprises me with his versatility and seemingly totally comfortable with just about any kind of music. That is one thing he definitely takes after his coach. I must let you in on one funny and quite uncanny incident when he was introduced onto the ice, as I do comprehend the spoken Japanese and if you don't, you totally miss that epic moment!)
The emcee was introducing him as he hit the ice, saying "Deniss charms the crowd with his sweet, dashing looks". Right at that moment he looks right at the camera and flashes a big grin, as if he perfectly understood what was being said. I am sure it was a coincidence, but it was just so...:laugh2::luv17::love:

All’s well that ends well.
Beautiful programs, audience’s love, satisfied fans and a happy team!
I have come to the conclusion that Deniss should always involve the following parts in his programs-
1)playful, amusing, joyful, jolly and cheerful pieces because it fits him,
2)something lyrical, poetical, delicate and gentle because it also fits him a lot
3)something dramatic, exciting, impressive and majestic. I’m still impressed by his “Four Seasons.”

But Stephane has to think how to make Deniss’ triple jumps (actually 3A) more stable because my heart is bleeding when he loses points and can’t be in the place he really deserves. In his recent interview he tells that in summer he trained in B. Orser’s coach team in Canada. It would be good to continue.
I looked through Judges details per skater. In program components their opinion is so different. I have a feeling that Deniss is still a bit undervalued. But it might be only a desire to have something better for our dear ones.
To my mind Swiss Daddy is having too much work. It seems to me that he has become a bit bony. Maybe they both should eat more chocolate and cheese. Joking!

 He's so talented, he could master nearly any music, I bet. I went back and watched his Nutcracker and Tristan and Isolde programs the other day and was equally charmed. He has this unique gift, to feel the music in his heart and let it resonate out to his fingertips.

I am convinced that Deniss is in the right place for him. I think it seems bleak now, because this season so far things have been a bit hit and miss. I calculated he lost about close to 11 points in his NHK FS just on bv :( But it was the same last year, and then by Worlds, he only made one mistake over both programs and got a PB in both SP and FS. And even with the jump errors here, he got his highest PCS so far in both programs and a new FS PB! So things are heading in the right direction, bit by bit.
Also, having been to Canada twice, he's probably had plenty of time to look around TCC, and see what it's like to train there. He's ambitious, so if he saw that things would be better for him there I think he might have made a move by now. Also, it's very far from home, even further than Sochi, and I don't think he'd like being so far away.
And he is forever underscored in PCS imo. Though it is starting to rise, I think he should really be scoring as high as 84-86.

I missed it yesterday, but what a gem to lit up my evening - Akiko's room with Deniss and Stephane! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD0DE1MqvIA

, Deniss is so adorable beyond cuteness! Love his humble nature, delicate manner around him and the same aura of uniqueness surrounding him like it was with Lambiel. A true individualist, now with right person to help him embrace it and give out in a form of complex and complete performances.

I love particularly how Stephane said in the beginning, after the footage from his 'activity' during Deniss' programs was shown, that Deniss's skating just consumed him that much, it was impossible to stand still - he voice in my opinion the golden core and precious quality of Deniss' skating: an ability to draw people inside of it and to make them stay there, mesmerized and charmed. You can see that he's pouring all he has while performing - I feel like Stephane really helped him with more exuberant expressin that is equally intensive and impactful in various tepos and rhythms. I feel like he showed Deniss that being so open and sensible for competitive performance could be a good thing.

I love also those side-by-side footage of Deniss and Stephane, you can really see the influence and direction given to the former, but embraced with his own way of expression:). Also - some mad drawing skill Deniss has:points: - to draw our handsome Domo-kun in Samurai armour in such intricate way, throwing the rink and Japanese language there is very impressive for me!

There is such a pressure on both of them concerning 3A and quads, in every interview it is the main question: what about quads? But impatience is enemy of long-term satisfaction. Probably the best they can do now is holding their ground. If Deniss has problems with jumps, just make every other elements perfect - and they implement this plan. The olympic season is crazy, everybody push their limits in BV, what can easily end in injury - and that is the last Deniss needs. He is still growing up and - knowing problems with puberty of other young skaters - we must realize that not everybody is able to overcome it with ease.
And - it's only my silly idea - very probably the rules in fs are going to be changed. Champery is very close to Lausanne, the seat of ISU. Maybe Stephane knows something about new rules?...

Really loved Akiko's Room. Deniss' command of English never fails to amaze me. I guess we have to add Stephane to the list of coaches who skate along with their students! So funny. He is feeling every beat of the music just as much as Deniss. Hope he can improve on his jumps and especially hope he is fully recovered from his injury.

Hot off the press: Deniss will compete at Cup of Tyrol! Which is now in November apparently! So we won't have to wait until December to see him :yahoo: What a great surprise!
Diana, Noah and Noemie will also be there. And here I was just thinking what competition could Deniss attend between now and Latvian Nationals

Well, it’s not your silly idea! Some days ago I happened to speak to the person who is pro in skating and she told that it is true. There are some fundamental reasons for it. One of which is a high level of injuries and the fall of popularity of figure skating at least in Europe. Nobody knows exactly (might be Stephane knows) how it is going to be carried out, but it could be a good chance for those skaters who are more artistic and emotional.
She also told that there are some skaters who for one reason or other can’t do complicated high-revolution jumps.
It means that even if Deniss doesn’t master all the quads properly, his versatile talents will be appreciated.

You are absolutely right - it's good that under Stephane's supervision none of his students have got injuries.

It’s a pity but I had only a couple of hours to translate Deniss’ interview, so I couldn’t outline everything but he himself started speaking about quads. He told that he is working on them a lot, and the progress is tangible. Right now he has been mastering four quads, but he is moving on step by step. He thinks that figure skaters practically do all six jumps in the same way. It’s just emotions, the skating skills, the speed, the interpretation, the harmony between music and movements which make them different.

He was asked how skaters disclose their character and personality. He answered that it is still a mystery to himself. In all types of art people express their soul. The same is on the ice-my performance is a part of me, my soul. It’s my passion to art, to figure skating.

Some words about his injury. He said that he is cured, but any injury leaves its impact for life. He said that he has learned a lot due to the injury.

Yes, the videos are really funny but so sweet. If I am not mistaken, at Rostelecom 2016, he also followed the performance at the board, but it was somehow different. It was his first experience as a coach and he promised to be more careful. But he can't. His soul is there on the ice, together with Deniss.

You are right. Deniss has very good abilities in languages. He speaks also Latvian well although he has had so little practice during the last years. Yes, he makes mistakes, but he tries and he manages. As he said-if he wants to do something, he does it! I would like to hear him speaking French, especially his pronunciation.
