Deniss Vasiljevs

I had to go to sleep right after Deniss, and went to sleep feeling sad. But today I am remembering the good parts of the program, and really marveling at the level of the competition. Even the SP of Euros wouldn’t have gotten him into the top 10. Of course I wish he could have had the axel when I know he can sometimes do it so well.

With less pressure he can go out and skate freely and I hope happily today!
 
Both of my boys (Deniss and Patrick) struggled on their 3As, but otherwise their programs were glorious!!! :yes: All the best to Deniss in the LP! May he skate freely and enjoy himself on the ice! :pray: :)

If he skates well tomorrow then the only mistake he will have made will be that 3A and then you could say he is quite consistent after all! 👼

Latvians have such a saying -No tavas mutes dieva ausī. It means- from your mouth straight into God's ear. I hope it sounds well also in English.

I have a feeling that tomorrow everything will go well. The British commentator Simon Reed always says - he is a fighter. In his Fan Club it's felt that he is supported so much.
So all the good words-just into God's ear!:cheer:

In English we say almost the same thing: from your lips to God’s ears. I learned this saying from my Jewish friends, so it could have Eastern European origins.

Last night, I was upset that Deniss did not show all he could do, but tonight, he will be able to start the proceedings off with a bang, and showcase his lovely FP to a fresh audience. Wishing all the best for Deniss :hap10:
 
I'm sad that Deniss going first means a lot of the people I know won't get to see his free live due to work/night school/not having cable. But I'll be cheering hard for him alone on the couch!

Deniss speaks in Latvian.
Before the performance, Deniss had only one training session in the main arena. He really liked the ice. It is in good shape and is going to go out on the ice with a special sense of joy. Deniss has many admirers in Asia, but he wants to be supported most at home by residents of Latvia, on his native land.

I liked Stéphane’s story about the quads! I hope he inspires Deniss to keep skating at a high level for many many years.

The latest news. Everything was very good but he fell twice. Both 3A. It means -2. He got 155.06 for FP. Total-234.58. Not bad in his case. From his group one skater had a higher score.

Well, now it's difficult to foresee anything. He told the journalist that still he had pleasure to skate and that he is going to continue cooperation with Stephane. I'm glad about it.

I think deep in his heart he is sad, no matter what he is saying. And me too.

Maybe Agita Ābele (a judge from Latvia) is right when she said that it would be useful if he consulted somebody else (I mean the jumps), just to get some extra tips.

Anyway, I love him, I adore him, he is the best for me!!!:love::luv17::luv17:

The Olympics proved again that world's fs field is much more challenging than European. Even if Deniss would have achived his PB, he would stay at the same place. Of course if he had been flawless, he could have got new PB. What he did repeatidly during the whole season (and what have spoiled his fans ;))- but not this time. It's a pity as this is the competition that matters the most.

Sometimes I wish he was less sophisticated as a person, it would help him on the rink :) I mean in such case as OG the less you ponder the better and the best is to forget this is OG. The pressure of being part of the national team surely doesn't help at all. I feel the better he talked in Latvian, the more nervous he was ;)

I really believe he overcomes the worse side of this experience with ease and it helps him to be stronger in future.

Champery very probably provides the best environment for Deniss. And Stephane is the most caring coach - who still learns to be a coach, what is, in my point of view, the advantage of the situation.

I was watching Match Arena tonight and the commenantors (in an avalange of their logorrhea) mentioned Urmanov as the coach who was better for Deniss jump-wise (the 3A issue was obviously undertaken). I'm sure Stephane is aware of the problem, the more he is called to improve other skaters' performance abilities. If you watch the documentary about Shoma build-up for the season you can notice how many people were involved into his training. What I was surprised the most was seeing Stephen Gogolev (coached by Brian Orser) on the same training camp in Montreal: so even the best coaches send their students to others to develop their skills. But it must cost a lot (I remember Conrad Orzel could go for a summer camp to Rafael Aryutyunian only because he got special funding, from the Ontario province or even the state) and as long as Deniss has no sponsorship from Toyota ;) it could be a matter. Btw why AirBaltic (or any other Lavian company, I know only this one...) doesn't sponsor Deniss?

All the men at the Olympics are vulnerable. As we saw, none of the big names skated perfectly either. Deniss did not give up on his performance, and he never does! That's one of the reasons I love him so much. :) If his health allows, he can probably skate at at least 2 more Olys and make great strides just like Javier and Stephane managed to do.
 
In one interview he told that he would like to participate in 3 Olys.

In the morning I happened to see the 1st day competition on Eurosport1. It seems that they didn't show all skaters, at least i didn't find Deniss. At the end when they spoke about the results, the last sentence was- The very highly talented Deniss Vasiljevs... I think we will see him more in the future.:hap10:
 
Deniss is an Olympian! Wow! With his talent, the sky is the limit for him. I know he will continue to work on developing his quads, and going to an outside specialist would probably be a good idea (although how many skaters can say their coaches still jump quads??!! :) ) Ilia Kulik, Tom Zakrajsek, or Alex Ouriashev would all be good choices. But please don't lose that brilliant artistry and showmanship for the sake of quads! He keeps improving steadily. He can proud of his results in this pressure-packed event.

Very very quickly done!



He feels pity that Deniss failed 3A which is the most complicated jump at the moment in his program. But Deniss embodies the essence of the figure skating-it is skating. He is masterly at all styles, at skating itself.
He speaks that Deniss is a skater for whom not only the technical part is important but he creates the character, the image. In the interpretation all his body, hands, head etc is involved. He has mastered the sliding skills to the perfection.

At the end the music is very demanding and so Deniss’ is increasing the power of emotions.

It’s clearly seen that he is disappointed, it’s not what they both expected.

Stephane’s influence is felt. One of them had asked Denis why he chose Stephane as he didn’t have any experience. One of the main reasons was that he wanted somebody who could work with him full time. Deniss is very satisfied with their cooperation but he is immensely grateful to his former coaches Ms. Sneskiene and Mr. Urmanov.

Mr. Yagudin says that Stephane is the person who puts his soul in what he does. He can’t work superficially. That could be the reason why Deniss likes to work with him.

Then he speaks about Stephane as he knows him very well.:)

:scratch2: Lavenderblossom, do you really think that a summary for 20 minutes documentary is short? O.K. I'll try. Fortunately, Chris speaks English and quite a lot of the information is known.

Did you notice where Deniss got his sunny smile? It's inherited. It's from his mother!!! She is simply beaming!!:)
