Deniss Vasiljevs

Today was the first day of FaOI Shizuoka performances. It is reported that Deniss skated Lion King clean and was on bazooka duty again, this time with Rika Kihira.
FaOI Shizuoka will be broadcast on Sunday, 3pm - 6pm JST. So we will have the chance to see a more polished version of the duet program. :)

Two photos of the FaOI cast in Shizuoka: formal and informal (in front of the hotel they stay - which is so awesome that many skaters shared pictures of its facilities on instagram). Deniss is in the centre of both photos, as usually  By chance, as usually ;)

Deniss's Lion King was cut from the Shizuoka broadcast! :dev2: What a shame, as many on Twitter said today was the best performance, with a standing ovation from the whole audience. Stephane's solo programme was also cut. I am glad that at least we were able to see the performances from Kobe.

A couple of the messier elements were cleaned up - the sbs spreadeagle part is much smoother. The new camera angles are better for appreciating the details of the choreography too. A masterpiece.

Another report from the fan meeting, in English https://twitter.com/eggsyrealdeal/status/1015421945163272192

So they invited Kojiri to work with them on the collab program, and then Kojiri asked to help choreograph Deniss's FS... interesting! I think this FS is going to be quite different stylistically to previous ones.

A couple of videos for Worlds FS warmup

https://twitter.com/11SUJI/status/1015583534445092865 1Lz1/2Lo3S - really pretty combo actually. Would like to see that in a show or something.

The video of the Chopin program is now at 23k views :)

So he is in Canada now, and making the best of the hot weather :p
So we can stop guessing (after photos of Stephane at TCC) that they went together (with Koshiro as well) straight to Toronto
But why the photo is not captioned "The Beach Boys"?;) (Deniss is too young to know them, I suppose...)

Actually, I'm afraid that I would not recommend this English version to anybody who love Deniss and Stephane but didn't have the chance to go for the meeting. It's mostly just the copy and translation of the Japanese version with many mistakes, including this collaboration one.

Although the writing of this answer in the Japanese version was a little bit fuzzy, but I understand it as that Mr. Kojiri was not the one who eagerly asked to be their choreographer, but Stephane did, or, at least they first had some discussion with it (cuz Mr. Kojiri worked with Stephane in Japan before, they know each other), then finally happy to cooperate with each other.
And that brought us the final graceful masterpiece! :luv17::thumbsup:

Talking about the "1/2Lo" issue, from the coming season we have to call it "1Eu(Euler)"... Sad to wave good-bye to it:(

I am! Got my tickets all booked. It's going to be my first competition watching live and I can't wait!!

Welcome to our new visitors Irene2333 and Thunderbolt!

Well, actually the poster did say it was based on their memories of the fan meeting (which they attended), and not to be taken as a direct translation of the Japanese report (which I understand is not allowed for some reason). Perhaps they just misunderstood.

Yes, compared to 1Lo or 1/2Lo 1Eu just looks wrong somehow :noshake: but we will get used to it in time.

Deniss has been spotted at TCC! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk0tdQMFOsV/
Frankly, I didn't see him at first, because he hid so well behind the little girl's hair

And welcome also to you Tabsy!! Sorry I didn't see your post ><;; If you look down at the bottom right of a message box, there are 4 buttons. If you tap the 3rd one (reply with quote) on the message you want to quote, it will open the reply box with the quote inside. ;)

Wow, you're going to see Deniss live at IDF...Why can't it be GP season already?? I was so tempted to get tickets but I have no money :hopelessness:

I have found on Tumblr a translation of a very old interview with little Deniss aged 12 :)

I never knew he had been to CSKA before. But I'm glad he only went for a training camp. If he had stayed, his skating would probably look very different to how it is today... I wouldn't trade Deniss's performance skills for anything.

:otopic: Well, I'm not sure I'm doing right because it's off theme, but yet it's about Deniss’ homeland.

The previous week in Latvia was a week of Song and Dance Festival. It is an old tradition which repeats every 5 years, but this year it is devoted to the 100th anniversary of Latvia, so it was celebrated on a really wide scale because everybody wanted to take part and had to be the best. It has been proclamed by UNESCO as Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (together with Estonia and Lithuania).

I'm not sure that someone from Deniss’ family has ever participated, but still I want to believe that somebody in his kin has been in some dance group or choir. Anyway I sincerely regret that Deniss wasn't here.

Thanks God something has been posted on YouTube at last. As many of you love Deniss :luv17:, it might be interesting to spend some minutes on it. I want to note that everything is national, Latvian costumes, music, ornaments, traditions. Oh, there are some guest and national minority groups as well. And it's fully amateur, no professionals (only choir conductors and dance group leaders).

Here is a very patriotic and emotional song "The Sun, the Thunder, the Daugava", composed when we were under the Soviet Union. If not the political changes, then most probably you wouldn't know Deniss today.

I didn't find anything shorter but you might just watch a little while from 1.32 or 1.55 from the main dance rehearsal. :dance2:

And in case you are on holiday, here you can see some pics from all the events of the week. Just scroll it down.

Hello again, Deniss fans!!! Just because I don't post here as often as some of you doesn't mean I am not a fan of Deniss anymore. I take breaks from GS at times to focus on other things in my life. I just got caught up on the thread again and appreciate how everyone contributes and shares their love of Deniss as a person and a skater. You all are AWESOME! :cheer:

So, Deniss is going to JO and got NHK and IDF for next season!!! It goes without saying that I am looking forward to seeing him skate. I wonder if he will do an old LP at JO or a new one. My favorite fan art so far has to be him and Simba. It is beautiful and brought a big smile to my face!!! :luv17:

I finally watched the duet today and I am in love with it!!!!! I don't like the costumes but oh well. The SKATING is SO FABULOUS!!! The way every note of music is important and every movement and every pause has significance is how figure skating is meant to be presented. In the hands of less-skilled skaters, that music could be so boring, but I couldn't look away for one second. I wanted to see every little detail they were giving us. I loved the parts when they were together, like the spread eagles. The SBS 3Lz+1Lo+hitchkick was great and nicely synchronized. The jumps that were done had seamless flow in and out as part of the choreography. They were part of the choreography instead of just being there for the sake of being there. I loved the whole program so much!!! Bravo to Deniss and Stephane for reminding me why I love figure skating. :2thumbs:

I'm quite sure it will be a new one. And, if he decides to start season with JO, it will be the first time he performes it
That's what I'm thinking too! Which means it is likely to be its debut! :yay: And this season we know the LP will be done by a different choreographer, so I am curious what aspects of Deniss's skating it will bring out. I am already excited.
