Deniss Vasiljevs

Nepela entries were announced today and still no Deniss' name :( (OK, there was a very slight chance for that, but anyway...). I feel he is going to show his new programs only in Japan... what would be a nice way to thank Japanese fans for their commitment (and would kill me with impatience ).

I can't believe he's gonna make us wait until NHK to see his new SP!! :dev2: :curse: If he isn't at Nepela, will he be going back to Austria for the new Inge Solar Memorial CS? I would've thought it would be too close to the French Grand Prix, but on the plus side, there will be a high-quality livestream! With commentary! :yahoo:
Also, there is an update on Deniss's FB page saying he might have to skip Latvian Nationals this year because the dates interfere with Christmas on Ice :( I hope they can sort something out, it will be sad if he can't skate at home at all this season.

Yes, I consider also this possibility. It's instead of Cup of Tyrol, isn't it? So Deniss should take part in it :agree2:.

IMHO Innsbruck is a bit too tight, even though Innsbruck - Grenoble isn't that far away, with Champery, their base in the middle for a couple of days of rest, they have to head straight to Innsbruck after NHK, that will make three competitions in three weeks. They planned a similar schedule two years ago, Warsaw Cup in between two GP assignments, they decided to scratch Warsaw. I am really surprised that he decided against Nepela, which seemed like the most reasonable option for CS if not Lombardia. At this point I would think Nebelhorn is the only possibility, although they have to go to Japan immediately after, neither of the two is as crucial as GP assignments.
I really wonder what is their strategy for this season... aren't his new programs still finalized, there are lots to be twirked yet? I wasn't really expecting him to skip the first two weeks of CS runs.

He could still be added to the Nepela entry list, 2 Russian ladies eventually got assigned to Lombardia after the initial entry list went out. But I do agree that it seems odd for him to skip early competitions. I remember from an article a couple of years back that being able to 'warm up' the programs in front of the audience at smaller competitions helped to prepare him for the more important ones. I don't think it's because the programs aren't ready, it would be more likely for him to have some minor injury (though I really really hope that's not the case either :slink:).

The late additions for Lombardia are all from Team Mishin, so I guess the team had some uncertainty. I would think Team Champery would have mapped out their plan already if they were aiming for Nepela. Bratislava is a bit pushing for a driving distance, I think it takes more than 10 hours from Champery (therefore they will probably have to opt to flying), whereas Obersdorf can be reached in about 5 hours in a car. That MAY (or may not) contribute to a deciding factor. All we can do is we have to wait and see... I really really hope Deniss is not having any health issues!!!
I am a little (very) restless because last year they did release sneak previews of his Free program early, they even introduced an early version during Fantasy on Ice in June, but this year we are kept in total darkness as to his programs for 2018-2019. :scratch2:

It's quite interesting that Stephane didn't choreographe programs for any of his students this year (if I'm not mistaken), and asked Salome for doing that for everybody - besides Deniss.
It must have been an exciting experience for Deniss to get a program from a profesional dancer, and a kind of challenge to perform it according to the choreographer recommendation. I feel it will show quite different side of Deniss, as he becomes more and more aware of his body and of a possibility of telling a story/express himself in a dance. On the other hand hiring two brand new choreographers is possible an answer to voices that Deniss is a copy of Stephane - and can be a part of process of creation his own individual style.

He's not on the initial Nebelhorn entry list. Granted, the list of entries is not very long at the moment, there are bound to be additions later, but... SOME news would be nice... :sad21:

:scratch2::scratch2::scratch2: mystery deepens. Granted it is not the most convenient choice, considering the imminent trip to Japan (true, they can fly out directly from Munich, about 2hrs away after Nebelhorn)... but if not, what else is there??? ACI in Canada???? Will he skip CS all together???:confused::confused: Seriously, SOME news would be REALLY appreciated!!!

He is listed as Koshiro’s choreographer, but otherwise, you are right. It’s really interesting. I’m guessing that Stéphane was probably still involved in Deniss’ programs, since dance choreographers would need some help translating to the ice (and making sure step sequences got levels, etc). But I am really looking forward to seeing what the programs are like! I do hope that Kojiri and Dolan are listed as the choreographers, because otherwise you know the commentators won’t notice. Sometimes it frustrates me how much they have a story in their head about a skater and don’t change it even if the skating changes. And comparing Deniss to Stéphane is such an easy talking point.

Do you think Sarah Dolan was doing the short program? Because that would mean he only got the choreography in late summer, which does seem late!

My Spur magazine arrived yesterday. The pictures look great in person! :luv17:
I was a little worried that the magazine would be ripped, because the box looked like it had been opened but all was good. The pictures are the same as in the electronic copy.

The derailing of this thread is cracking me up
C'mon, it's Japan, of course it's fanservice and a very high quality of it.

Did anyone else order the Patinage magazine that Deniss is going to be in? The only excuse I came up with is that it would help me with my French. Mom wanted to know why I was buying so many magazines.

Omg that discussion, I‘ve feared it coming ever since I saw that video of the photoshoot🙄🙄🙄
Thanks to Lavenderblossom and silverfoxes for summing it up perfectly 😂😜

Noemi Bodenstein / Celine from Team Chámpery have posted another group picture in their Instastory with Deniss in his favourite front position 😂
Still no idea how to link Instastories (sorry guys) but I am sure someone will be able to help me out 😅😘

Btw good luck to Noemi and Koshiro in Linz.. I wonder if Stéphane will be with them... 🤗

I think there will be two of Team Champery coaches in Linz as Koshiro and Noemie will have morning practice on Wednesday exactly at the same time, in two different rinks... So if they haven't got Hermiona's time turner necklace, one will be not enough ;)

I'm sure Stephane as a coach was (and will be for the whole season) involved in choreography, for the reason you mentioned.

It's always the easiest way to comment just comparing a skater to a coach, especially when he/she is a famous skater. I remember Deniss' first GP season: when Polish commentators talked about clear resemblances of Stephane in Deniss' skating, at the same time Russian commentators saw clear resemblances of Alexei Urmanov

I greatly appreciate Stephan's contribution to Denis's chorerography and I absolutely love all of his programs. But anyway, it is very nice that other choreographers work with him as it promotes his growth and diversity.

:agree:

What I like about Stephane's coaching is (among others, of course) the idea of developing young skaters' skills by using many different (but always of the best quality) resources.
