Deniss Vasiljevs

:scratch2::scratch2::scratch2: but if not, what else is there??? ACI in Canada???? Will he skip CS all together???:confused::confused
ACI instead of Lombardia or Nepela would be quite strange, but imagine all Deniss' fans from Canada/Great Lakes region - they would be in heaven as Deniss has never competed there :)

Nathan and Boyang haven't entered any CS yet either (Yuzuru is expected at ACI, though he is in the same situation now). So how about meeting of all the four (plus Jason) at ACI? Mock-up WC

Oh, and in the midst of all that, this thread hit two thousand posts!
And my post unexpectedly is #2000 :yay:

Of course it is highly unlikely and makes little sense, unless they have some other appointment in Canada for whatever the reason around that time, and while they are there they may decide to do ACI... they were indeed in Toronto area not long ago, so I don't think this hypothesis should be totally excluded, and it is, as far fetched as it may seem, becoming the only explanation after seeing him skipping all the other possibilities. BTW what is up with this hold-up of the announcement of ACI entries???? :angry2:

Someone who read the SPUR article pointed out that Deniss had already said in the interview, which must have taken place a few months back, that his first competition of the season would be Japan Open. So apparently they had already mapped out their early season schedule that way. Perhaps they aim to perfect the new programs as much as possible. We must trust their judgement and be patient a little longer so it seems!!!

I couldn't find (thou I used three different translators to understand the interview ) such information, but maybe the printed version is more extensive... It would be great to have the interview translated by somebody who speaks Japanese. Anyway, NHK and WC in Saitama were mentioned, as Deniss' FP costume is going to have a "Japanese touch".

It's in the printed magazine (not that I can read it either, but it was mentioned on Japanese twitter ;)), there are a few different answers to the mini Q&A as well.
It does appear to be a trend for skaters to use music that is tied to whatever country is hosting Worlds that season, isn't it? Not all of them, but like Radionova skating to Titanic when Worlds was in Boston  Even Deniss used an aria from an Italian opera last season!

I am still waiting for my copy, a friend of mine in Japan got it for me and will send it to me - if no one won't have done it by then I will try to translate - I understand their language fairly well and can read the article :agree:

By the way, what do you think about Deniss with a moustache?

Why I was convinced it would be Chopin for FS? :scratch3: The more Kissin (who was on Deniss' playlist) is one of the best Chopin players? :slink:

Great!

I’m convinced Deniss was trolling us with the mustache...he’s so serious and sincere in interviews he could say almost anything and we wouldn’t know he was joking.

I’m really excited for both programs, the more we learn about them. My interpretation is that the SP will be a little like the fast part of Sway, and that the FS will be more serious. Which sounds great, showing two sides of Deniss whole still pushing him to go farther into each style.

Also, I was laughing so much at D+S, being interviewed about fashion, and talking about how they packed all dark clothes so it’s easy to do laundry. So practical [emoji23]

The clothing part really made me laugh. In college I would wash all my clothing together (besides my whites) on cold so I didn’t have to do more than two loads a week [emoji23]. My mom still picks on my clothing choices for having so many dark colors.

OK, no Deniss' name on the ACI entry list. So we are waiting till JO. But... after watching Camden and Koshiro's new programs today I have a strong feeling that Deniss' programs are worth even longest waiting...:agree2:

Oh yes  their programs are so brilliant, Stephane put some magic in their choreography. I can't imagine how gorgeous Deniss's programs will be.

for the SPUR interview, I can link the online version to here.... it seemed like to be the different one though

The translation of the interview

SPUR: You did such a great job at the Worlds!
Deniss: I am really happy with my performance, both SP and FS. The important thing is to do a perfect performance as the best as I can, which I managed. I didn't worry about the placement, I just concentrated on doing my best.

S: You also participated in the Olympics, and you earned 2 places for Latvia for the next World Championships. What is the reaction back home for your achievement?
D: When I started skating, there was practically no competitive skaters in Latvia. Now the interest is definitely increasing. I am happy that I could be a pioneer and show the way to the younger generation.

S: Your "sensei" Stephane was also representing Switzerland (which was also not known as a leading skating nation). Have you two talked about what it is like to represent your own country?
D: Good question! Actually I am not exactly sure what my "sensei" was feeling. But I can tell you my own feeling. To represent your own country is an immense honour, there is no honour like that. And I feel the support from the local people.
Figure skating, is an individual sport. While concentrating on your own task, at the same time coming together with athletes from other countries and support each other, that has also been such a precious experience. Perhaps it is contradictory, but that is what sport is all about. It's a sporting culture.

S: Did you feel and hear the cheering and support from your fans at the Olympics and the Worlds?
D: While I am performing, I have to concentrate on my own performance. But as soon as I finish and realize I have just given it all I got, suddenly all the cheering, applause and the sight of my banners hit me. It is such a special moment and makes me so happy. It is when I realize all the effort to put out the best I could was all worthwhile.

S: What is your goal for this season?
D: I would like to be among the very top, both with SP and FP. So I have to absolutely perfect my new programs.
And then quadruple jumps. To be among the top, incorporating and successfully landing quads is essential. I have been practising all types of quads, but right now I am concentrating on toeloop and salchow. In a program you also have to do those jumps at the precise moment and timing, that is a big challenge.

S: Tell us something about the new programs, if you can.
D: We completed the choreography of both SP and FP just before we came to Japan for Fantasy on Ice. I mastered the movements, but I still have to work on putting my heart in them and making them my own. I think the FP will be really interesting and I look forward to seeing the reaction of the audience.

S: Do you have any philosophy on clothes, both your costumes and your street clothes?
D: The most important thing about figure skating costumes is its functionality. It needs to be a perfect fit, like your own skin. So too much fabric, or too many colours are not very good. I like the designs that allow me to move freely, and show my body line perfectly.
I think I tend to choose dark colours. ("Sensei" taught me that) I can't wash the whites and the dark colours together, so I stick to the dark colours. But actually I also like bright colours!

S: How was the SPUR fashion photo session?
D: It was a whole new experience for me, like picking the clothes which suit me the best from so many choices, getting my hair done, for example. For example, coordinating two different patterns to create a unique harmony, like the style of Gucci. Or the white sweater of Doris.. it looked huge and the sleeves were too long, didn't look very practical, but actually very comfortable when I put it on.
Usually "Sensei" influences me on my clothing choices. Comfortable, and not too extravagant...

*Stephane chimes in* what are you saying, think what I tell you all the time!!!

D: LOL, oh yeah, pay attention to the material. You don't always tuck in the shirt, leave the two top buttons open. Personally I feel more comfortable when the buttons are all fastened, so it's sort of difficult... lol. I like the suits too, but it is difficult to sport them correctly, and be natural.
Yes, as "Sensei" tells me, I am still an absolute beginner when it comes to the world of fashion!
Thank you very much.
