Deniss Vasiljevs

Deniss gave a post-Worlds interview for Latvian sport website (in English what is a bit surprising but better for us :)).
I know he needs audience like breathing, but I haven't realised how important competitions for him are... Hope he gets both soon.

A longer version of the interview was published here but it was translated from English to Latvian, so when you translate it back to English some things are a little unclear:

I just hope that he doesn't hurt himself with this training load and that he can get at least some rest now even if he feels like he can't go to Latvia to see his parents at present.

His SP at Worlds was really impressive and it's nice to hear he enjoyed it too. Overall it was one of his best performances ever and is very rewatchable indeed.

Here Deniss said that although it hasn't been decided yet, he'd probably like to get new programmes for the Olympic season. Knowing him it's not at all surprising. Personally, I wouldn't mind either scenario. He's only competed with these programmes two times and they are both really good but the prospect of new ones would be exciting too.

Not surprise because he is Deniss lol

But I totally would be fine if he wants to keep the programs, because he shows that he matured a lot in the Tango SP, which i loved it a lot. I definitely not the biggest fan of R&J, but Prokofiev's version of R&J for FS is a good choice and has much potential. Anyway I am looking forward to his next performance (hopefully in front of the crowd)

The question is probably if he can derive the same joy from perfecting these (from the competitive point of view still quite new) programmes as from getting new ones. And would he like to perform the same programmes at Worlds two years in a row? It's been years since he last recycled a programme (not counting that one time he skated Iron outdoors in the 2019/2020 season).

We've even had two SPs per season before, so who knows what they'll come up with 😁
