Wow! Deniss Vasiljevs speaks Russian, in addition to Latvian, English and maybe some French? And I love to hear him say that there's much more into skating that doing what it takes to get points (I'm extrapolating a bit), although it sees so well in his skating.

Deniss is an ethnic minority so Latvian is his second language. He says he thinks and reads in English and uses French in everyday life in Switzerland.

I'm not sure which interview or fan meeting it was, but he once said the only thing he knows is "wakarimasen" (I don't know). That may have changed already, don't know.

As far as I know he speaks a few words in Japanese but not too much.

He speaks French pretty well but is too shy/ too perfectionistic to speak it publicly (we tried with a French journalist in the mixed zone at Euros after the SP.)

His first language is Russian, his second is English and Latvian his third. He improved very much with his Latvian during the last years as he studies in Latvian.

He also learns German btw
