Edge Cup Senior Men's SP: Results; Protocols

Dillon finished 4th out of 4 in the SP, with a score of 45.90.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Edge Cup as I was concentrating on the Silver Skate Winter Cup.

Looking at the Protocols, although there were four elements with negative GOE, it was only really one element that had a major issue.

He fell on the opening element, the Triple Lutz, which meant that he couldn't attach another jump on the end of it. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.95, which meant that it went from having the highest Base Value of the programme, to being the third lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

The fourth element, the Triple Salchow, had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.29. This meant that it went from having the second highest Base Value of the programme, to being the fourth lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -4 from Judge 3; -3 from three Judges; and -2 from Judge 1.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from -0.09 for the final two elements, the Step Sequence and the Change Foot Sit Spin, to +0.44 for the second element, the Double Axel. Apart from a -2 from Judge 3 for the aforementioned Change Foot Sit Spin, all the Judges marks for these elements ranged from -1 to +2.

Dillon is currently 2.46 points behind 3rd position, Jozef CURMA (SVK), and 15.26 points behind 2nd position, Matvii YEFYMENKO (POL).

You know, Dillon has a shot at getting a medal here. If he has good Free Skate, he could possibly overtake Curma for third position.

So, let's hope he does have a good Free Skate!

Dillon finished 4th out of 4 in the FS, with a score of 84.54. This meant that he remained in 4th position overall, with a score of 130.44.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Edge Cup as I was concentrating on the Silver Skate Winter Cup.

Looking at the Protocols, although there were only three elements with positive GOE, apart from the first element, the first half of the programme actually went pretty well. But there were a lot of issues in the second half.

Since there were so many elements with negative GOE, I will only select the elements with the four biggest GOE hits.

The opening element, the Triple Flip, didn't have a clean edge. It had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.53, which meant that it went from having the third highest Base Value of the programme, to being the fourth highest scoring element of the programme. It got -1 from four Judges, and 0 from Judge 4.

The seventh element, the Choreographic Step Sequence, had the fourth biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.50. It got -2 from Judge 3; -1 from three Judges; and 0 from Judge 5.

The ninth element, the Triple Salchow, was under-rotated, and he fell. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.72, which meant that it went from having the fifth highest Base Value of the programme, to being the third lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

The eleventh element, the Double Loop-SIngle Axel-Double Axel done in sequence, had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme. But because it had the second highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it three -2's; and two -1's.

For the remaining elements with negative GOE, the GOE ranged from -0.43 for the tenth element, the Step Sequence, to -0.09 for the sixth element, the Flying Camel Spin. The Judges marks for these five elements ranged from -2 to 0.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.14 for the third element, the Double Lutz, to +0.59 for the second element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe. This second element had the highest Base Value of the programme, and remained the highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges marks for these three elements ranged from 0 to +2. Both of the +2's were for the fourth element, the Change Foot Sit Spin.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 18.84 points behind 3rd position, Jozef CURMA (SVK), and 19.66 points behind 2nd position, Aurelian CHERVET (CHE).

Overall, Dillon finished 21.30 points behind 3rd position, Curma, and 38.48 points ahead of 2nd position, Chervet.

It is so unfortunate that the second half didn't go so well, because it looks like the first half was actually good.

Hopefully he will go clean the next time we see him. Which isn't that far away, because he is enterd for Skate Berlin in two weeks time.

The Senior Men's SP is due to start at 19:30:00 CET (18:30:00 GMT). So 12 hours from now.

Dillon will be the 8th skater to start. So, second skater to go in Group 2.

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 20:11:30 CET (19:11:30 GMT). So 12h 41m from now.

Dillon is due to start at 20:23:50 CET (19:23:50 GMT). So 12h 53m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before him withdraws.

Skate Berlin Senior Men's SP: Results; Protocols

Dillon finished 12th out of 12 in the SP, with a score of 40.65.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was watching the final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing, and then catching up on the overnight action from the first day of the opening round of the World Superbikes.

However, I have now watched her on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment I would have written about the Warm-Up if I had been watching LIVE:

All I can say is thank goodness Dillon's jacket has that green section around the shoulders. Because nearly all of the boys in this group have dark hair and black jackets!

Actually, now that I notice, David Sedej's jacket also has green arond the shoulders. But Slovenian green is a much lighter shade, so you can't confuse them.

He started off doing some nice practice moves, getting his feet warmed up.

When eh came back into shot, he had ditched the jacket. HE was doing some more warm-up exercises, and then finished them with a nice spin. He then crossed back over the shot, and looked like he was starting to line something up when he went out of shot.

He then came back into shot, and you could tell he was lining up a jump that would be within shot. And then he did it... behind the graphic in the corner showing the start order!

He went out of shot and then came back in, weaving his way around other skaters to find a space to line up another jump. Which he then did... behind the start order graphic again!

The next time he came into shot, he was lining up a jump, and most of it was done in shot, but the landing was out of shot.

Then the same thing happened again, but this time all we saw was the take-off.

He then crossed over the shot, and when he came back into view, he was landing a jump. And then the same thing happened again, but this time it looked like it had been a wild jump!

Unfortunately, just before the one minute warning, they put the standings table up, which made it hard to keep track of where Dillon was. But, it wasn't up for long.

Next time we saw him, he was landing a jump that he had done out of shot. But it wasn't a great landing.

Finally, just before they were told to leave the ice, he did a lovely Camel Spin right in the middle of the shot!

Hopefully that is a sign of things to come.

And here is the sort of comment I would have written about the programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Nice start to the programme.

Ach, fall on the opening element, the Triple Lutz.

And very nearly another on the next element, the Double Axel. But he saved it.

Not the best entry into the Flying Camel Spin, but the element itself was beautiful.

Fall on Triple Salchow, which he tried to save with his hand.

Change Foot Combination Spin that followed was good, though.

You could see he concentrating deeply during the Step Sequence, but it worked because it was good.

And then the Change Foot Sit Spin was a beautiful finish to the programme.

Unfortunately, you couldn't tell how he was feeling about it after he finished. And then when he was waiting for his scores, he was sitting in a way that his hands were obscuring his face.

But, he seemed to be breathing quite heavily.

He goes into 9th position.

Well, the first half was iffy, but the second half was good. So:

Looking at the Protocols, he had two falls. And none of the elements got positive GOE. However, two elements had neutral GOE, and for another the negative GOE was negligible. So, it's not as bad as it initially sounds.

He fell on the opening element, the Triple Lutz. It got the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.95, but because it had the highest Base Value of the programme, it only dropped to being the third highest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

The second element, the Double Axel, had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.10. This meant it went from having the third highest Base Value of the programme, to being the lowest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it two -4's; and three -3's.

He fell on the fourth element, the Triple Salchow, which meant that he was not able to attach another jump onto the end of it. It had tehsecond biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.15, which meant that it went from having the second highest Base Value of the programme, to being the third lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from -0.35 for the penultimate element, the Step Sequence, to 0.00 for the elements either side of it, the Change Foot Combination Spin and the Change Foot Sit Spin. The Judges marks for these four elements ranged from -2 to +1.

Dillon is currently 11.82 points behind 11th position, David SEDEJ (SVN), and 18.52 points behind 10th position, Nico STEFFEN (CHE).

Unfortunately, the way the gaps are mean that Dillon is pretty much locked into last position. Just like David ahead of him is pretty much locked into penultimate position. However, this gives Dillon the opportunity to jsut go all out and try to get a new absolute Season's Best score. His Free Skates at his previous two events have got him his two highest FS scores of the season, so he does seem to be in a good run of form with that programme.

So, let's hope that run continues and he has a good Free Skate here too!

Dillon finished 11th out of 11 in the FS, with a score of 90.38 This meant that he climbed to 11th position overall, with a score of 131.03.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was catching up on the overnight action from the first day of the opening round of the World Superbikes, and then catching up on the final group of the Olympic Ladies FS.

However, I have now watched him on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment I would have written about the Warm-Up if I had been watching LIVE:

Like the previous day, Dillon did a lap of the rink in his team jacket, and then got rid of it. Which worked out perfectly, because the light colour of his costume made him very easy to spot amongst the black jackets.

That was until the others took their jackets off. There were two other skaters that were wearing costumes that were practically identical to Dillon's!

Unfortunately, the trend of lining up jumps in camera shot but actually doing them out of camera shot also continued. It happened a couple of times with Dillon before we finally saw him do a jump that was in shot. And it went well.

But then with the next jump, most of it was within shot, but he landed out of shot.

Just before the one minute warning, he was doing a lap of the rink, and as he was going past the judges, he was doing arm stretches. Then he did another lap, but this time he was actually looking bored with nothing to do. And this was the last we saw of him, as he was no doubt talking to his coach, getting ready for the programme.

Which is happening now!

Girlfriend Michaela Vrašťáková (CZE) sitting with him. (In Senior Ladies, she was 10th in the SP, 3rd in the FS, and 5th overall).

It had teh second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.15, but because it had by miles the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained by miles the highest scoring element of the programme. It also got -5 from all five Judges.

For the remaining elements with negative GOE, the GOE ranged from -0.37 for the sixth element, the Flying Camel Spin, to -0.02 for the third element, the Single Lutz. And because the Single Lutz was already had the lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained the lowest scoring element of the programme. Apart from a -3 from Judge 1 for the thenth element, the Step Sequence, the Judges marks for these six elements ranged from -2 to 0. (Both -2's were for the aforementioned Flying Camel Spin).

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.30 for the final element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, to +0.43 for the fourth element, the Change Foot Sit Spin. The Judges marks for these four elements ranged from 0 to +2.

In addition to the point deducted for the fall, there was also a point deducted for a Time Violation. I have no idea what exactly it was for.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 19.34 points behind 10th position, David SEDEJ (SVN), and 20.76 points behind 9th position, Luca FÜNFER (DEU).

Overall, Dillon finished 31.16 points behind 10th position, Sedej, and 70.34 points ahead of 12th position, Georgii PAVLOV (CHE).

Pavlov, who had been 8th in the Short Programme, withdrew before the Free Skate.

Unfortunately, Dillon was again a good distance behind the rest of the field. However, he can take reassurance from the fact that this was his second highest Free Skate score of the season, and his third highest overall score of the season. The problem was that his Short Programme score was his third lowest of the season.

So, if he can get the problems with the SP worked out, and pair it with another good Free Skate, it is looking good for the next time that we see him in action.
