Is anyone else as disappointed at the coverage of Nationals or should I say lack of coverage?

Lack of coverage, are you nuts? There is so much coverage on the Web who can read it all. And TV coverage begins today. Try doing a little surfing.

I'm just sad I couldn't watch live --- I know we could buy a subscription to something, but reports were so up and down regarding even how much it would cover and when that I didnt' subscribe. So, that's what I wish - that I could just watch live.

Sure there are lot's of articles here and there, and I'm sure FSUers are having quite the conversation (I didn't subscribe to their events folders so am out of that loop)....and we have a few incredible posters here that have given us pbp's - but it doesn't seem like we have as much direct connection here on GS as I have felt we did for other comps....and that is a 'feeling' - totally 100% subjective and probably not at all 'empirically accurate'. But, to give one example, if it weren't for cocovica last night, I doubt we would have heard much at all last night during the comp (senior men's short); and I don't recall in the past ever depending entirely on one poster (but cocovica, if you read this - THANKS A BUNCH, and if others were there to chime in if he/she couldn't thanks for being there!!!!).

emma, although still far from perfection, icenetwork has, so far, shown all the skates in all the disciplines and that is definitely worth $30.00 You should consider subscribing next year. I certainly will re-up. But I am looking forward to watching today and tomorrow on an actual TV!

$30? I got mine for $20 (re-up from last year AND club discount)!!

They've done a good job on IN. Nancy has definitely improved throughout the season and so far at Nats has gotten better with each group. If Macusso could stop butchering names, I'd be happy.

Thanks - I'll definitely rethink paying subscriptions next year - and I'm really glad you are enjoying IN. I too can't wait for TV today/tonight and tomorro...I'm on pins and needles!!!1

I felt that too, but it's quite understandable. Many posters with a lot of informations at GS are all in St. Paul right now. (Wish them having wonderful time there!). I'm sure as soon as the Nationals is over, this website will be a lot more energetic, and we'll have a lot of insightful posts.

I agree. I am so glad I subscribed. It is worth every penny. No problems with connections or blackouts. I give it a 6.0!!!!

I'm glad to hear that icenetwork is doing such a good job. I didn't hear about the deal until this week, and I didn't know how the connections would be, so I didn't pay. Based on the reviews I've read here, I will probably subscribe next year.

I'm following it all with excitement even if I'm not vocalizing it on GS. I was yelling YAY! YAY! YAY! for all the neighbors to hear when Johnny won the SP. I was thrilled for Mirai and Ashley as well. Shared the disappointment for Rohene and Kimmie. (I'm not a Kimmie fan but she has really worked and improved artistically this season so I have to give the girl credit.)

Go, Johnny! Go Mirai! Go Ashley! Go Caroline! Go Jeremy! Go Rohene! Go Kimmie! Go Donder and Blitzen! :p

NO I AM NOT NUTS!!
IMO, BY THE WAY, ALL THE OTHER SPORTS ARE AVAILABLE LIVE AND FOR THE PRICE OF PAYING YOUR CABLE BILL .

ALSO, THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO CANT AFFORD AN EXTRA $30 TO WATCH ICE SKATING AND SO THEY ARE LOCKED OUT .

READING AND WATCHING ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

I am. It's expensive to participate in figure skating, but now it's even expensive to be a fan of the sport... pay to get on message boards, pay to get live coverage... Not everyone can afford that. As a whole, I don't find the icenetwork website easy to navigate either.

Don't even mention the mess it is to find the results !

And if you're outside the US (like me), just forget it !

I did not like it. What lack of vision of Icenetwork, they could be donig loads of money if they allowed people from other parts of the world to watch live...

But we can. I am in Germany and I saw everything (apart from the part that was blacked out for the US as well.)

Icenetwork is amazing.

You can thank the leaders of the sport for this unfortunate scenario.

The reason you can watch football, basketball, etc. on free TV is because many people watch it and sponsors pay for commercials. Not enough people watch figure skating, sponsors are becoming fewer and further between, and the only way to produce coverage is to have people pay for it. For the diehard fans there is an upside. Literally ALL of U.S. Nationals is on the net -- novice, junior, senior. But if you don't have $30 to spare, then I guess you're out of luck.

Back when ESPN debuted in the early 80s, it was a premium service just like HBO. It was nearly a decade before it became basic cable. That's where skating is at right now. Eventually most things wind up on YouTube. Until then, there is lots to read on the net.

considering 'way back when' you were lucky to get much coverage at all I think we're good...

the mid 90s were a fluke of sorts... the networks were saturated with figure skating... and it got old in a hurry.

Have to agree it was worth the $30 guess if I hadn't cancled last year could have saved $10 oh well. Also it was diffecult to find what your looking for couple of time forgot to login  they need to make a deal with NBC to air everything since they didn't show everything they blocked out, i.e. sr cd on the last 2 groups.
And sr pairs LP unless they are showen tonight we didn't get to see them either.
But in all it was great what we saw and made my vacation worth it at first wasn't sure. Id even do a pay per view on TV if it gaurenteed everything nothing blocked.

quick question on those who watched Nancy. in the mens short she made comment about the quad did I hear her wrong saying she know how hard the quad is because she's done one? If that's what she said my question is WHEN did.

I thought the coverage was good overall, other than a few minor issues.

I'm just disappointed I couldn't record the short program :(

You heard correctly. This is the first time I have heard Nancy mentioning publicly that she did quad. I would like to know when too. Maybe practice.
