An interview with Donovan and Coach Goyo, with some interesting tidbits:
1. His goal is top ten for Milan Cortina
2. He has not trained abroad due to finances. I didn't quite catch from Goyo, who answered the question, whether they thought he might have more funding now. I do think (my Spanish is not nearly good enough to catch everything) that she asked if he would train with Nathan Chen? Or maybe Chen means something in Spanish that I don't know
It is a half hour long, and because I really need to concentrate, I have not listened to all of it. I would be interested if anyone wants to flag items I may have missed.
Goyo said that at first they had very little resources, so they couldn't and they used whatever they had very strategically. They also had a lot of people that supported them. For the last three years, they've received funding from the CONADE (Mexico's National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport), though it's never enough for a competitive sport.2. They asked about his objectives, and he said that he is aiming for a top 10 place, and maaaaybe a medal. For that he is trying to get higher dificulty. What's news, I think, is that he has landed a quad sal in training!
She didn't ask anything about Nathan Chen, so I don't know what you heard
It's a very interesting interview, if you speak spanish I recomend it! She asks very interesting questions, about their training regime, how his coach learnt to coach a sport in a country that doesn't have the infraestructure for it, about a skater's seasons, etc.
I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish, circa 1991. I've forgotten almost all of it. Donovan would be a good reason to try to get some back.thank you, I did get the strategic spending part, but definitely could have gotten heard anything else wrong, as my Spanish is pretty rusty and understanding the spoken word is difficult.
On another note however, I do want to say that I spent two weeks in Argentina many years ago, and I thought it was the prettiest Spanish accent I had ever heard. If I was able to speak Spanish with any proficiency, I would want to do so with the “zhzhzh” of an Argentinian accent. (at least with my hosts, “zho“ for “yo”, and my favorite, “trezh rezhezs” for “tres reyes”. I loved it)
Ohh thank you! To be honest, my accent is veeeery different as I am from another province, and we talk with a different musicality (that's some way to say it). I am from Cordoba, it would be harder for you to understand usthank you, I did get the strategic spending part, but definitely could have gotten heard anything else wrong, as my Spanish is pretty rusty and understanding the spoken word is difficult.

Donovan is in Montpellier, but does not have his skates
did they lost them at the airport? did they break? It says the suitcase didn't arrive. I was at practice tonight and wondered where he was! I was hoping he wasn't ill. Oh, tough break!
